Mid-range video card that is at a good price. I wonder what's wrong with it? I also had to upgrade most of my PC to use this card so not quite a bargain for me.
One review site said it might not fit in your PC due to the huge heat sink so measure up first.
Edit: Sold out?

must….resist….NONONO!
You got balls for resisting …
my GTX570 or this?
so had to choose! Very simular specs but the HD 7870 is far batter by lower power requirements and cooler!
Plus being able to sell your GTX 570 for 150+.
Worth $50ish dollars? :P
Not really worthit not much difference between the 2 really. In 6 months time it will be more worthit..:D
Just picked one up for my friends B'day present!
haha he will be a happy friend
ooo so tempting even though my 560 is fine :(
Can we be friends?
yes yes yes!…. oh noes :(
I need 2xDual Link DVI, this only has one.
But great deal otherwise :)
PS, nobody dare suggest I buy 2 :P
How about you buy 2?? Problem solved
Better to buy 3, that way he will have a spare in case one breaks…
What if both break at the same time? Had best buy 4, then.
Sorry boys, Pccasegear put a max 1 per customer limit, but hey, there's 4 of us so we should each buy one and you all send them to me?
So this card is OC'd? Would it be near the levels of the 7950 then?
I'm a noob at video cards and just want the best bang-for-buck card. Don't mind waiting for "new" cards later this year though. From some comparisons I've seen, the OC version is close to the stock 7950
Anyone have the exact measurements of the card?
The HIS website was the width as exactly 14cm.. But the heat sink poking out makes me think it may be a bit wider..Looking at buying this card. Can anyone give me a reason not to? Are there better/cheaper cards coming out in the near future that we should know about? Worth upgrading from a GTX 470?
Looks pretty good to me. There are always better cards coming out, but none in the near future so your alright there. And yes it will be quicker/use less power/cooler/quieter etc over a GTX 470 so it's a nice upgrade. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the reply.
I think I'll be able to sell my 470 (factory OC to 480) on eBay for ~$150, so for ~$60 extra it's a worthwhile investment I think. Unless someone thinks otherwise?
Always use the Anandtech Bench:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=519
and Tom's Hardware's Hierarchy Chart:

To figure out how much better one CPU/GPU/SSD is than another.
How about an upgrade from HD 5770 to this? Worth the buck?
Some might say, "what a noob question"
You will see an even greater performance increase compared to going from a GTX 470 to this.
If you are not happy with the performance of the 5770 in the latest games anymore then I would say it's a decent upgrade option.
What a noob question. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I had an Asus HD5770 - pretty good card for the price, IMO.
If you think you need to upgrade, then you might as well. This isn't really a one-size-fits-all kind of topic, it depends on how you use the card, and whether you prefer higher graphics settings to more cash in your pocket.
And no, not a noob question :)Decide for yourself. Choose HD 5770 and compare to HD 7870 on Anandtech Bench:
the 5770 can play most of the latest games on high settings for me and is still going strong, but it can struggle a bit with the highest settings (anti-aliasing kills it). if you're not too fussed with graphics, there isn't a huge need to upgrade
Yeah I have a HD 5770 too (that I got on eBay a year ago for $70). I bought the HD 7870, i5, Z77 mb last night ($500), but after that I played Max Payne 3 on full settings and the HD 5770 was fine. So I cancelled my order with pccasegear this morning. Maybe wait a while…
Can it run Crysis?
It'd be a fair dropkick of a card if it couldn't.
No it wouldn't. Don't be daft.
How quickly people forget.
Vanilla Crysis is still a pretty thorough benchmark for GPUs 4 and a half years later.
About the only memorable thing in an otherwise bland and consolized game.http://www.anandtech.com/show/5818/nvidia-geforce-gtx-670-re…
Even a GTX 680/7970 struggles to push 60 FPS with 4x AA @ 1920x1080. So yes, this card does struggle with Crysis.
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph5625/44597.pngMetro 2033 still makes modern GPUs cry. So does GTA IV.
Goes to show you how much we're being held back by console-centric game development these days when close to 5 year old games can push modern hardware harder than the majority of the latest triple-A titles.
You do raise good points, but Rich2010 didn't ask: "how well will this card run Crysis (in terms of FPS, at full enthusiast settings and 4xAA, while taking into account the current state of graphics cards)?" He asked: "Can it run Crysis?" And it will, just not to 'enthusiast levels' - which few people would care for, anyway.
Also, who in their right mind, when they're being conscious of FPS performance, turns on AA?And yes, I agree, consoles are greatly holding back the gaming industry. The only reason I'm looking forward to a new generation, is that hopefully developers can start producing more games designed to utilise more powerful hardware.
Also: I don't think I'm daft, thank you. You're not the only one who doesn't think you're daft, ProspectiveDarkness. Especially considering you're answer was right and Amar in fact did not answer the question at all.
To clarify for Rich2010, on the off-chance that he is not just commenting like an irritating youtuber, the correct answer is: Yes. And any half-decent, current video card will run Crysis to at least some extent. For further information, refer to Amar89's post.
Nope. I also hear it struggles with Space Invaders.
Got the Gigabyte OC edition of the 7870, Paid about $400 not so long ago, so this is a great price. Deciding whether I should get another graphics to match up with my other.
I was thinking of waiting for another 7950 deal but after comparing the performance of the 7950 vs the 7870 on AnandTech it seems the 7870 is far better bang for the buck. On it's worst performing benchmarks, the 7870 offers 80% of the performance of the 7950, but on many benchmarks it offers far greater relative performance. Yet comparing it to the cheapest 7950 deal ($300), it 66% of the price.
TL;DR: This 7870 deal is better bang for buck than the previous 7950 deal- I'm buying!
damn it's sold out. And I just realized there was another 7950 deal before for only 259, but this still would have been better value as is still 77% of the price but (at worst) 80% of the performance.
7870 has decent performance due to its high clock (1000MHZ), while 7950 is on 800MHZ. but that means 7870 has much less space for OCing
crap missed it :'(
Was considering this great deal but I think $200 might be the normal price for the 7870 in the near future when Nvidia finally release the GTX 660 (non TI version).
Good to know! When do you think this will be??
Rumours are a release this week on Thursday/Friday. It will match the 7870 in performance. I really doubt it will be $200. The 660ti is $300 US (340 here) and most people are expecting the 660 non ti to be 250 US (280 here). Still the release of the midrange Nvidia products are the reason we are seeing the ATI equivalents on special.
Phew! Glad that's over. Was reaching my threshold of resistance.
Me too, now I'm just waiting for the next 7950 Gigabyte deal to come along because I know I'll snap when it happens..
It wasn't a "special" limited time price I don't think. It's just OOS. It will return to stock soon enough then you can begin your resistance again…
Very tempting. Need another 7950 deal.
