Boost Mobile FAQs

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including 31 May have been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

“$2 closer to my Tesla” - jv 2023

    • +1
    • Is it true? I saw in another post he claimed he was over half way through. No way he got enough of these $1-5 profit sims, that he has a few thousand dollars profit. Is there a tactic? Some sort of bot?

      • +5

You must be new here. I've retired thanks to Boost deals with profit.

      • +3

I struggled to buy 3 (and a battle to legitimately activate and use them). Weird promo from Boost. Basically encourages you to do a dozen at a time to make it worthwhile.
But I'll just do one at a time…don't bite off the hand that feeds you.

      • I have made multiple thousand dollar profit from these sims.

        • So when theres high profits like $5, you just keep individually buying these sims (how many? does cashrewards/cashback deny any?) and then activate it under your own ID (is there a limit? do you use other peoples IDs like your parents or something?)

          • +1

@FlipperMeTimbers: Individually, own ID, never been denied or hit a limit.

I've replaced doom-scrolling on social media with picking up deals until I get bored.

            • @wavesgreen: so roughly how many of these sims have you bought? also i dont really what is stopping me from creating a selenium bot to auto activate these.

and do you confirm the sim has been activated after doing the form thing?

              • @FlipperMeTimbers: Hundreds and hundreds. Confirm? I activate them and that's it.

                • @wavesgreen: not once has anything gone wrong? i might need to do this when i see a high profit sim.

                  • +1

@FlipperMeTimbers: I got a 'technical issues - try again later' message in like the first week when purchasing sims so I changed some details; address, credit card used, etc. Never had a problem since.

                    • +1

@wavesgreen: During the zip promo I made 50 without issues

  • +3

You have starved all Sim sluts too long that they have moved to 12 mo plans. Not enough left to upvote this.

  • Tracking email (showing $14) came through 2 minutes after Boost email.

  • +2

Do we need to sign for each delivery now they've switched to Startrack? That'll be such a hassle. Had no issues with AP Domestic with tracking

    • yeah, had to go to the post office to pick it up…

    • +3

Depends on your local… Mine was in letter box

    • Not in my experience, they just sensibly put them in the mailbox (unlike other rigamarole I've had with Startrack parcels). The subsequent text message said they left it somewhere safe.

    • I haven't had to sign for them via the StarTrack service. It primarily depends on your postie and whether you know them etc.

    • Delivered next day in letterbox.

  • So wht if order like a milllion of these?

    • +4

Using math it would be 2 million in profit.

      • +2

Nice.. Financial freedom as soon as cashback is approved

        • You'd probably still need to work if you had a family & bought a house in Sydney.

          • +4

@WatchNerd: Will move to vietnam and live like a king

            • +1

@U30004: Move to turkey. That's the I'm thing to do

              • @Turd: Naaa.. may be Portugal

  • Will I get cashback if I buy the sim and someone else activates it?

    • +1

      Yes

    • Yes - as long as it's activated within 30 days after purchase. That will guarantee you the cashback.

  • -6

$2 not worth the time lol

    • +6

I just use these as my main phone number, it's not so much the $1-4 profit for me, it's the free service with 30-50GB per month that would normally cost me $20-30pm.

      • +6

I used to pay to have an internet connection, now I get paid to have one.

Never could have imagined this in the past :)

      • +1

How do you keep the number though? Port out then port in each month?

        • Yeah there is normally something else available every 2nd month, like I'm currently coming to the end of my $1 month with Kogan and about to port back to boost.

    • +1

If you make 200 orders that's an easy $400 profit.

      • I'm not sure I can do 200 orders in a day

        • Exactly, lets say it takes 3mins to do each order, thats 10hrs to order 200
I'd get so bored doing order after order for 10hrs.

          • @HopSkipJumpFallSplat:

            3mins

            Under 1 min.

And I just do it til I'm bored. Later when the urge to scroll social media hits me, buy sims until I'm bored instead. Win-win.

            • @wavesgreen: Fair enough,
3 was just a guess but probably pretty close for myself though as I'm on the Skymuster satellite.
Even these sims aren't that fast where I live.

      • but is there no limit per address/name/identity? when activating do they not question you have a trillion sims under the same identity? does cash rewards let you take out so much money at once? also you are investing $2400 for like 3 months.

        • but is there no limit per address/name/identity?

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14139651/redir

when activating do they not question you have a trillion sims under the same identity?

Activation is online. They used to have a limit but seem to have increased it now (see above). The experience of most people now is, if activation doesn't work, you get on livechat and ask them to delete the old phone numbers from your account (which you keep a record of so you can cut & paste them in the chat to make it easier for them).

does cash rewards let you take out so much money at once?

CR doesn't care when you withdraw your own money.

also you are investing $2400 for like 3 months.

          Huh!?

          • @[Deactivated]: 200 sims is $2400, and cashrewards takes 2-3 months to pay you back, thus how I came to the “you are investing $2400 for like 3 months” conclusion.

“ask them to delete the old phone numbers from your account”, what account? does boost automatically generate an account under your details? i have a boost sim and no telstra/boost account.

            • @FlipperMeTimbers: An account is created when you activate the first SIM. As you use them up and buy more the expired phone numbers stay on your account. When that total reaches 35 your ability to activate yourself online gets blocked. Then you have to either contact them every time to activate each new SIM, or, get on livechat and ask them to delete all the old numbers. People are saying if you keep a list of those old numbers you can cut and paste them all into the livechat in one block to make it easy for the rep to delete them.

One way around this SHOULD be to use different email, etc and I think I read someone on here say they did that. But it didn't work for me. When I tried that a few months back their phone app still recognized I was the same person and added all 4x SIMs to the same app. So eventually I'll reach 35 and will have to ask a rep to delete the old numbers.

      • "Easy profit"… Buying, collecting and activating were all a hassell for me.

Ive changed everything, but still get flagged (only buying 1). Tech support said something to do with me being a previous Telstra customer and my Boost ID has details the same as my old Telstra ID… I said "yeah and?" .. Apparently the system flags it. At both the buying and activation end. Tried a different address, then post office lady busted my balls because my license address didnt match the delivery address (had to ask for where the rule is that I must get everything I buy sent to my home address). Had the letter box card, my license, water bill and could tell her what was under the wrapper..still didnt want to let it go..hahaha.. Then activation, had to call up.. Online denied again. They couldnt possibly deny you cashback with a bollocks system like this. Keep your screenshots.

        • That sounds more like reps making stuff up to get you off the line because they don't really know the answer. Try asking them to delete every old phone number related to your account except the one you're using right now.

          • @[Deactivated]: Only have one number?

            • @tunzafun001: Ah, ok. I'm still thining in "accept a new phone number with each new SIM" mode.

  • I bought one at $1 profit last week. Nearly buy the $1.5 profit one which ended 10am today. Now it is $2 profit. When I can get the best deal?

    • +1

      buy them all

    • Just keep buying em.

  • Anyone have luck calling up boost to keep their current boost sim number if on a fualty sim card and request it be registered on the new purchased sim pack recently? Rep said not possible to do on system anymore could only send me a replacement sim.

    • 50/50 crap shoot on which rep you get.

    • +1

Someone in this or another Boost thread the last week or so (I'm falling asleep so not sure which I read it in) said they call or get on Boost livechat and ask a rep to swap their number to each new SIM. Most people port out to another telco using $2 starter SIMs, then back into Boost. I just force everyone to bow to my will by doing this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14122301/redir

My point being, if they can swap a number from an "empty" but still active SIM directly to a new "full" SIM, then they can do the same for you. You'd probably have to go buy another starter SIM though unless you want to wait for them to send one. e.g. $2 at Colesworths.

FWIW I did this same thing with another telco. The SIM I received was defective. It activated online but SIM itself refused to work in phone. Bought another starter SIM for $2, phoned them, and they swapped the number of the broken SIM to the new SIM in under a minute.

    • You could ask them to recharge your current one, call on the day of expiry.

  • How long does it take for the cashback to be approved? Or it will only become approved after you activate the Sim?

I bought two last week when they were $13 cashback, it says estimated approval 11/8 but still pending.

    • +1

      About 2-3 months

    • +1

62 - 95 days. In my experience, the cashback got approved on the 27th Of July, when I made my purchase on the 29th of May.

    • 3rd or 4th week of every month Cashrewards pay out the cashback from 2 months prior. e.g. All May purchases got paid out on July 27.

      • You buy.
      • If you do everything right you get an email pretty much instantly saying the purchase tracked.
      • Two to three months later cashback is approved and received. Until then it will show pending.
  • Hopefully this is not an error this time, i can buy some later tonight?

    • Yes, this deal expires on the 14th Of August 10am (Adl Time)

      • 10am AEST :)

So 9:30am for Adelaide people :)

  • New to Boost and not a lot of Cash Rewards experience. I know, I know, bad OzBargainer.

Does Cashback tracking reflect in site only after activated? I used link in deal to shop via Cash Rewards portal, purchased and received SIM. Nothing showing in my Cashback even as tracking. I have pretty aggressive ad blockers but thought I'd disabled all. Now I'm concerned I may have mucked it up.

    • Tracking is near instant. I’d contact Cashrewards customer service

    • Easier to download the extension on chrome, I find it works all the time with the extension and maybe.
. 80% from the website because I have adblocks that I turn off manually before I initiate purchases

    • Just make sure you click through the Cashrewards extension each time. It'll add to your click activity. And in the unlikely scenario where it doesn't get tracked, you can make a claim after 7 days showing the proof of purchase (email confirmation), just make sure the time is align with the time of purchase.

  • Bought 2 last time in separate transactions and 1 tracked and 1 didn't.

    • Same for this deal, ordered 1 last night and tracking came through as I placed the 2nd order just minutes later, was going to order more but the 2nd one didn't track and still hasn't this morning.

  • Anyone tried to reactivate this being on boost via phone call still manage to get the bonus data for 3 months?

    • I can't understand this question enough to try and answer it. Reword. ;-)

      For example:

      Anyone tried to reactivate this…

What is "reactivate"? You activate each SIM once.

      • sorry, I meant I was with Boost but no more bonus data. Then I get one of these SIM, called Boost to activate the new SIM and transfer my number to the new Boost. I wonder if anyone successfully done that and still get the bonus data, so can just do this hack every 3 months?

Thanks. Hope this is much clearer

        • +1

I meant I was with Boost but no more bonus data. Then I get one of these SIM, called Boost to activate the new SIM and transfer my number to the new Boost.

Someone posted in a recent Boost thread they buy these SIM continuously, and for each new one they contact Boost (not sure if by livechat or phone), and ask the rep to port their phone number from the "old" SIM they're finished with, to a new SIM. (No porting out then back in.) You'd have to go back through the threads to find their comment.

I wonder if anyone successfully done that and still get the bonus data.

That same person would know for sure.

  • Is anyone having issue buying these sims now? It keeps saying technical issues after I submit my order

  • dose it take my card and auto recharge for me?
if so is it easy to cancel the auto recharge?

    • +1

From memory you don't have to setup auto recharge to activate the SIM. But either way, you can turn it on and off at will.

    • +1

No card details are required to activate.

  • +1

    Thank you OP!

What does everyone do to try to get the Boost deal as often as possible please?
One month of Boost, then port to ??? for a month, then the following month port back to Boost?

    Cheers!

    • +4

Use as data instead from your main sim - handy if you have dual SIM phone. My main number is on Optus and can be hit&miss some places. Good to have an alternative one for free when needed.

New number to signup perks, freebies.

Give out to overseas visitors - gave to a niece from overseas came to visit us for few weeks and she was confused when being told it was 50GB unlimited calls and i got a profit of $1.

      • OzBargain profiting is next level

  • +2

Thanks op. Who can I port out to now so I can post back to boost again? Used to be Kogan but no one offering free month now

    • +1

Mate does 1 month for $1 at the moment but it is postpaid plus your billing cycle starts on the purchase date not the activation date.

      • Thanks. Already tried them last cycle. Wonder if I can "try" again as a new customer…. After 28 days…?

  • I've discovered something….

When using cashrewards app to buy it, it fails.
But when using chrome straight it work.

    This is on Android.

    • Try changing your default browser so cashrewards uses that.
I have no problem with firefox as default browser, so the app uses that, if I change default to Samsung Internet(only other browser on my phone) CR app then uses that.

  • Does Boost allow you to select a free custom number similar to Amaysim? Not talking about the good ones (i.e. 888, etc), but to go in a roulette type search function?

    • No, preassigned to the Sim I think.

  • Bought first boost sim for this cashback offer, still hasn't tracked is worrying :(

    • +2

I wouldn't worry. CashRewards is solid when it comes to honouring tracking. Just raise a claim if it hasn't appeared on your account after 7 days.

  • I purchased through the app but my cashback hasn't tracket yet. I used the same email address to make an order a few months ago so I hope that hasn't caused any issues.

  • Hoping that there will be another cashback offer from Cashrewards before the Boost deal expires on 22/8.

  • Good to find some good moblie numbers…

got one which starts with 0400 interesting lol

  • @BargainsGrabber Is this actually expired? the pricing is still $12 on the boost site from what it looks like.

    • +1

The $35 SIM for $12 hasn’t expired, but the bonus cashback has :)

      • Thanks for the quick reply :)

The only reason I ask is CashRewards on the boost page says "$35 28-day Prepaid SIM
        $13 cashback"

So does that mean if I buy the $35 (now $12) boost 28 day SIM I won't get $13 back?

        • +1

It essentially mean that if you purchase the $35 SIM (now $12), you get $13 cashback ($1 profit) if you purchase it via Cashrewards
