not bad, hopefully it goes for a similar price or better with afterpay day sales next week, especially for those with an understandable centre con vendetta

    • What is the understandable centre com vendetta? Just want to know before I potentially buy. Can compare to MSY if that helps

      • +3

you might find this handy. msy hasn't got the best track record but ive been really pleased with their customer service over the last few years, way better than it used to be.

but yeah, purchase at your own risk i suppose and just consider there may be cheaper prices to come, and soon!

        • FYI, MSY is now owned by Umart (as of late last year). Granted, they did get better after the ACCC came after them too.

          • @freefall101: not sure why but i always thought it might've been the other way around. good to know!

          • @freefall101: I personally feel MSY's customer decrease significantly after being acquired by Umart(at least SA region). Worse return, less helpful customer service etc.

            • +1

@OMGJL: Customer service at MSY Ultimo has been very good over the last 6 months

      • +4

Most dishonest business I’ve dealt with in years.

      • +2

Ive purchased heaps from centercom and have had zero issues

  • +12

I keep forgetting the 4070 is only 12gb, which instantly kills my interest

    • +7

Still more RAM than the vanilla RTX 3080 - which sells for ~$650 on the second hand market.
This is a good card at this price imo.

      • +4

IMHO, only reason they nerfed the RAM on that was so the 3090s would be decent for AI/ML tasks. Greed.

      • +2

I know the performance difference… but when i see an rx6700xt for around half price second hand…

..granted i never use ray tracing

    • +17

      The 4070 is a fake 4060

Core count % and 192-bit bus/12GB VRAM on the "4070" is identical to the 3060

For double the price, you are get less than double the performance at all resolutions:

GPU Price 1080p Med 1080p Ultra 1440p Ultra Spec
      RTX 3060 12GB $410 121.0 73.0 54.0 GA106, 3584 shaders (34% of 3090 Ti), 1777MHz, 12GB GDDR6@15Gbps, 360GB/s, 170W
      RTX 4070 12GB $797 176.3 123.6 98.9 AD104, 5888 shaders (32% of Titan Ada), 2475MHz, 12GB GDDR6X@21Gbps, 504GB/s, 200W
      Difference 94.4% 45.7% 69.3% 83.1%

The core and memory bus on the "4070" are so gimped that NV had to stack GDDR6X to pump up the frames

Except the 4090 which delivers massively overpriced next gen performance, RTX 40 series is the ultimate set of gimped hardware

      • +13

Its not gimped hardware.. its just named and prices wrong….

The 4060 should be named the 4050 $250USD
The 4070 should be renamed the 4060 $320USD
and the 4070ti should be renamed the 4070 Priced at $450USD
and the 4080 should be renamed the 4070ti $550USD

      • +1

and so is the RX 7000 series but AMD fangirls wont let anyone say anything bad about them even if they are as shady as Nvidia lmao

        • +2

The RX 7900XT was supposed to be the RX 7800XT.. AMD tried to do the same thing but at least they gave you 20GB's of RAM

        • +12

Nobody can be as shady as nvidia since the whole covid pricing and holding back stock, forcing sellers to buy a pallet of junk to obtain just a few cards, raising the sale price of their own stock.
Yes AMD are also shady in some of their dealings and features too. Doesn't come close to nvidia though. Just my 2cents and opinion.

          • @teddiebear: Who ever thought we would be grateful to see Intel enter a market? 😂

      • +1

Since when have price and performance been linear? I know I would not pay $410 to play on 1440P at 54 FPS, but I might pay $797 to play on 1440P at 98.9 FPS, thats' day and night apart frankly.

It still should have been a "4060" and ~$600

    • +1

According to Red Tech Gaming, there might be a mid-gen "SUPER" card that includes 16GB ram for the 4070. It is better than 12GB however, if its bandwidth gets kneecapped then it won't be great either.

      https://youtu.be/zOeNTKeeIes?t=554

But whether this will help with new AAA Unreal Engine 5 games that are coming out like the new Remnant 2 get above 1440p 60fps, will be interesting to see. Remnant 2 isn't even using Lumen at the moment either so future games that fully implement the engine features might be even more demanding.

      • What's with the 4060ti being capped at pcie ×8 speed with 128bits but massive ram capacity??

        • +4

One can only assume this is a cost-cutting measure by NVIDIA to make more money out of the lower-end GPUs or to force people to upgrade to the higher spec and even more profitable mid/high tier cards.

        • AMD did the same thing, I have a 6650xt which is x8 only, luckily on Gen3 this comes close to but doesn't quite gimp the performance

        • It's not hugely cost effective to make a 128-bit bus PCIE 16x, but dropping it to 8x is only something NVIDIA has done for the 3050, which tells you everything you need to know about what model name AD106 desktop cards were going to get.

    • +1

I’ve made my peace with it. They are not going to make it any different before they exhaust all their inventory which could be years down the line.

  • +3

    nice, everyones favourite store apparently

    • +8

      Centre Con: SHHH
      Burnt Customers: GTFO

      • +3

This! Don't waste your hard earned cash at Centre Con. Better waiting for the afterpay/eBay sales and buying from a trustworthy seller

        • Is there any other problem beside them not honouring price errors? Been searching ozb and following chatGPT's links and from what I saw, almost all were about price errors, a few about stock indicator not being accurate.

          • +7

@payton: They've sold the stock, taken customers money, arranged for the courier to pickup orders, then they've asked the courier to return the stock back to base mid delivery because they've realized they're making a loss. They've done this on a number of occasions recently.

            • +2

@BringAPlate: In my case I saw that the delivery was going to an address I didn’t recognise in another state with a delayed delivery date. When I contacted them they lied and told me it was still on its way to me and that delivery timelines were delayed.

              • +1

                @SolitaryMan: far out

              • @SolitaryMan: You think that could've been the courier fu**ing up and not the business? Once something leaves the shop, they have no control over it. Could've been the item going to another sorting depot. Goes through approx 7 sorting places before something reaches me

                • +1

@teddiebear: No, I spoke to AusPost who confirmed that the seller redirected it back to themselves. Once they had it back CentreCom confirmed it.

By the time they did this my payment had cleared, and by their own T&C’s the product was mine when they redirected it.

          • +4

@payton: Overselling promo items then leaving the sale pending until you follow up about the order a week later

        • I've never had an issue with centre com. Been buying from them for years (as well as other shops too), spent thousands! with em and never once had an issue.

          • +2

@teddiebear: I also bought a case with them recently that was cheaper than everyone by far (maybe price error?). I took a stab at getting my local Umart to match the price so I didn't have to deal with post if it turned up damaged and Umart said no to price match because it's below their cost. I bought it from centrecom and it came no problems and even though I havent built in it yet, I did inspect it and it looks undamaged, in new condition (as it should be) so I am a pretty happy customer of theirs..

            • @Tythefly86: In a long enough run, there will be a hiccup somewhere. Some people may get a bad deal once and they may never shop there again. Others will give a second chance and never have an issue after.
In my case, i've had bad experiences with certain shops but i still give em a go afterwards. If it keeps happening, i won't deal with them again. But centrecom haven't done me wrong in years!

          • @teddiebear: I guess this is a mixture of things that leads to bad experience. specially when a crappy back end system coupled with ozbargain deal. In my experience they no different to most other shops such as msy / cpl / umart.

I had the “shop reserves the right to not make a loss” thing happened to me with cpl as well. In that case it was a price error. The funny thing was there was price errors that were existing on multiple items, some were priced down and some were up. But they cancelled an item that was priced down but was happily selling priced up items even after I told them about it.

            • @kaleidoscope: Lmao i bet they didn't lower the up price items! Probably hoping they could get away with it. As you said, these things happen in business sometimes. Nobody is perfect and human error could be a factor too. It just happens.

              • @teddiebear:

Lmao i bet they didn't lower the up price items

Nope thats why. Stupidest argument i’ve heard from sales rep imo. Said its the price hq wants us to sell so cant lower price. When I asked howcome the lower priced item should be the same case, he was like well its a price error 🤷‍♂️

  • This or 6800XT 16GB?

    • I'd go the 6800XT. The extra memory gives it longer future proof

      • -1

Those 4gb don't Even go close to dlss

        • Dlss is a sham

        • Realistically the consoles are going to go FSR, because they are all AMD based. As such DLSS is dependent on developers putting in the extra effort for the PC desktop market, which in turn means NVidia caring to bribe them - and NVidia has their eyes fixed on AI. If they can make that work, PC graphics can go hang.

So go 6800XT, 7800 XT or 7900 XT

    • +6

If you love your rays traced and your upscale dlss'd then this… If your a Rasta lover and don't want to worry about vram issues down the track then 6800xt.

For reference I have a metrocom (used mining) 6800xt which I got for $569… At around that price not many gpus are going to beat it value wise…

      • I got a ASUS Tuf rx6800 16gb for $670 new last year

        • $130 less and a year of use

        • +1

That's pretty good for when you bought it… 6800 is a good option too for sure

        • +2

$500 last year, used for 2 months, 34 months warranty left

    • +4

Depends what is important to you, as cryax83 said “6800xt 16gb VRAM” will give you longer future proof. 4070 has lower power consumption (PSU), DLSS3 (almost all reviews stated is better), better for RT and some productivity apps ect.
Performance chart is vary for 1080, 1440 and 4K. The website below will give you roughly performance (every reviews can be different as drivers used, different games tested). They looks identical performance and within margin of error to me.
      https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4060-t…
Which one is cheaper? By how much?

      • "Longer future proof" sounds better IMO.
        Thanks!

    • I'd go for 6800xt if you want to play modern games on ultrawide (or 4k). Texture quality is the only settings I want to crank to max for every single game, and not having to worry about benching/tweaking for VRAM usage means more time enjoying my games.

12GB is barely cutting it today.

      • Thanks!

    Pny have excellent coolers.

  • -1

    Overpriced

  • +8

    Hold!

    • +2

Hopefully intro soon of the rx 7800 helps drive down the 4070/ti …

  • +13

as a 1070 and then 3080 owner, i will wait for the 5090. Because i must follow the sequence.

  • -6

this thing only use one single 8 pin power connector? how crazy. must be noob version low clock

  • Will await your upgrade to the RTX 7010

  • +1

Just bought that 4090 model on Monday 😢

    • Grats man, the 4090's have been around same price for ages, so no regrets.

Had mine since launch, paired with an oled monitor :chefskiss:

      • Got the aw34dwf for the new build too. The excitement is palpable, coming from a VA panel.

    • Did you buy the same PNY one. If so do you recommend it at this price point? Also would appreciate your input regarding coil whine

  • +1

Need a ti for less than 1k!

    • Got mine (MSI) a while ago new for $1100-$60 for Diablo code so almost $1k !

  • +1

Also saw the 4070ti there for $1100 for anyone wanting a bit more power. I bought my xtx for 1473 a couple days ago but looking at these sales I mighta messed up and bought at the wrong time.

  • +4

Hold out. Buying this will encourage high prices.

    • +6

Doesn't matter Nvidia will just slow production like they have previously, Money is all In A.I now..

    • +6

This strategy doesnt work.Gamers arent Nvidia #1 business.

      • Totally agree. People have been saying "hold" for years and years - just buy it if you want it

        • Holders are the only reason prices have fallen this far, just like numpties who bought off scalpers in the worst of the crisis are the reason prices got that high in the first place.

  • +1

Thanks op, having been eyeing up 4070ti's for the past few days. Was gonna drop some serious coin on the 4080 but the wife gave me a look when I talked about it.

    • +1

      This is a 4070.. not 4070ti

    • Maybe it was a good look?

      • +1

I can assure you it wasn’t. 3 hours of sleep and nursing my 2nd born probably wasn’t the best time to bring up random 1.6k graphics card purchases.

In any case, the 4070ti will be perfect for what I need. Just hope that 12gb doesn’t limit me too much too soon.

Yeah they’re overpriced (I picked up the 6800xt Metrocom deal) but the difference on stable diffusion support and performance cannot be overlooked.

    • +1

try to say 4090 and see if she looks at you differently

  • +1

    4060 for $431. Should I bite?

    • +8

I'd be looking at the 6700XT for that price-point

    • +3

      Nope.

      • -1

        Good reasoning, NOT

  • +4

It's getting closer to what the RTX4070 is actually worth… ($550-$600) - good find!

    • -1

Assuming you ever receive it at that bargain price, given it’s CentreCom
