Hi All,
Is it easy to make a man hole for sub floor access within existing property? I am guessing there is one but we are not able to locate it as the ducted heating is under the floor.
Thanks,
Sean.

Thanks for your reply. yes - I will. What sort of tradies will do it like builders/handyman etc.
At this stage, I want to find out that it's doable and is not much of headache provided we have right resources to do the job.
Thanks again,
Having resources is one thing, knowing how to use them is another.
What type of flooring is it?
If timber a chippy or tradesman might be able to do it.
yes - hardwood timber. The man holes I have generally are seen are outside of the house - I am mean off the exterior wall. Can they be made or only option through inside of the house.
Thanks alll for responses.
Often internal man holes are placed within built in wardrobes
That's what I did. Angle the circular saw up to start and let it fall under own weight as it starts cutting
Screw strips of timber perpendicular to boards on underside
.
ok - so you were also in similar situation and you had to make one?
Yes, wanted access to run speaker and network cables. Came in handy when we later had ducted gas heater installed
House was built in the mid 60s by the housing trust (government funded). Brick veneer, pine floorboards on brick dwarf walls and strip footings for external walls.
.
Given that ducted heating has been installed under the floor, I'd guess there's an access hole somewhere too. And I'd guess that you should try to find it rather than cutting a hole somewhere at random, which might turn out to not be a very useful location. Perhaps contact the company that installed the underfloor ducting?
Yes - thats my thought too. But since its old property it is possibly be closed out or something. I will keep looking. I posted this question to have it made up as a last resort.
Till date my understanding that all under floor man holes are on the external wall i.e. not inside the house. So even if I find out the exsiting one, I have learnt new thing today. So thanking each one of you for taking time to respond to my post.
What is a man?
Opposite sex of woman….lol…
What are the outside walls made of? If brick to the ground then not likely to have a manhole outside. If timber slats arounds stumps then usually a section of the slats removes or swings open.
Quite often brick walls will have a door in somewhere to allow access under the house. Depends how high they are though.
Yes - that's what we have in the our existing house where we reside. My question is for the newly purchased property which we are moving in soon.
Yes outside walls are solid brick and all the way to the ground.
It is easy to make a hole. What is harder is making it baked to be opened and closed easily.
If it was me, I’d pick an out of the way location. Wardrobe floor from above sounds a good suggestion otherwise maybe under where the couch goes. Make sure there is enough room under to actually get access. Find the joists by looking for the nails or screws. Cut a section out wider than the joists and then duplicate the joists to support the remaining floor while leaving the existing joists for the removable panel
Thank you very much for detailed response.
Do you have a deck? The manhole could be under the deck
Yes, there is a desk. We have asked previous owners, awaiting their response. We believe there should be one.
Thanking you all once again for your responses. I was a bit nervous when I wasn't able to locate one. But after responses, I am breathing a bit easier now knowing that its not a big deal if we need to make one.
Did you find the manhole out of interest?
Might want to get a pro to do it if there's a chance people will stand on it.
