Great price, I just paid $339.00 for the OC'd gigabyte version as I missed out on the PCCG deal.

  • +1

Damn that's a good price, don't think these will last long.

HIS AMD Radeon 7950 3GB DDR5 Video Card

Is there a HERS too so the wife doesn't get jealous?

    • +17

Why do you have a computer in the kitchen jv?

If you're not planning on watercooling, you might want to get a better cooler: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-review-be…

The reference fan is loud as hell.

  • SOLD OUT! Next shipment apparently this Monday, what a deal!

    • +2

Huh? Its saying its still in stock? I just bought one…

    • :) Not all sold out yet, all orders will only be sent out Monday next week.
Sorry no early pickup available for this deal.

      • I can still pick mine up on Monday right?

        • Definitely! :D

  • Still can't say I've seen anything out that's made me want to upgrade from my cross-fire 6850's :(

But great deal all in all, let's hope prices keep going down.

    • I've got a single 6850… it hasn't missed a beat yet… seriously I haven't noticed a skipped frame but then I only play at 1440 x 900

  • +2

damn, could have saved $40 if i missed out PCCG deal :)

    • +1

The Gigabyte version is better anyway, Personally the extra for the Gigabyte is worth it.

      • +2

Not sure why anyone negged this, the Gigabyte one IS better, 3 year vs 2 year warranty, non reference cooler…but the lower outlay for the HIS card was obviously more tempting for me…

      • -5

so because there was a better one thats no longer available this makes this deal a bad one?

        • +3

Where did I say this was a bad deal???

  • Got one! Great price, I can deal with a extra bit of noise and heat for the extra performance…

  • +2

    These deals are so tempting.

I don't even need a new card, I'm stilling playing old games I bought in steam sales, won't get to the new ones for a while…

  • +1

Still won't bite. Want the Gigabyte version.

  • GTX 660 is coming out in a few days, $229 expected price tag. It equals the 7950 in many benchmarks. Only difference is 2GB of memory vs. 3GB.

    • edit: read wrong

    • How come all stores are selling the GTX660 for $339?

      • that's 660 ti

though 7950 is much better than 660 and slightly better than 660ti, unless you play games on full hd monitor, which both cards will be overkill

        • +2

Who doesn't play on full HD monitors???!?!?

          :p

        • 1680x1050 here (22"). Not full HD.

        • +1

Hmm I also have a 22 but its full HD…

        • +1

          RE ironpaw

people with bigger monitor (27" or 30") or even eyefinity setups?

        • 22" usually refers to a 16:10 screen, and they're only 1680x1050. 22" "FULL HD" screens are inferior, because they are 16:9 aspect and therefore smaller in size and height.

        • I've got a 1440 x 900 main monitor with two 1360 x 768 monitors (one on each side) using a HIS 6850.

    • GTX660, hope you are right. Early benchmarks state the 660 equals the 7870. Want to see how well priced they are when they land in Aus. Nvidia drivers are said to be better, but AMD have better power efficiency. Decisions decisions.

  • Will it work on a Mac Pro?

    • Quote from tonymacx86 forum: A quick search in the Lion forums shows a trend of people asking if their setup will work with a HD7950 and being told there are no drivers for it yet, but noone seems to have actually tried. Common census appears to be that iBoot/Chameleon do not yet support this GPU so there is probably no workaround as of yet.

  • +1

yeah thats too cheap,.. ill sell my 7850 and get this for my dell 30"

    cheers!

still in stock as of my order at 4:18

As someone who hasn't looked at GPU's for ~2-3 years, I'm quiet out of the loop.

I've been meaning to play a few "new" games like Sleeping Dogs, BF3, and Skyrim on High-quality. Is this a good deal or am I better off waiting a while for new cards? I don't mind the extra 1-3 month wait, as it'll be one less distraction with the upcoming uni exams soon.

    • ^ what he said.

I've also been out of loop for a few years, and am just about to start buying PC mags again to get back up to speed, but if anyone can shed some light on whether now is good time buy vs waiting I'd also be happy to hear any thoughts.

Yeah I realise you can always wait for the next best thing to come around, but anything special coming out soon that's worth waiting for?

      • +1

this is a good card (more than enough for any game on a single monitor), and this is a good price, so it's great timing to buy.

though, it's sold out now ;)

    • Im also uni student and work part time, yet this one is out of my reach … what kind of student are you @_@

      • +2

Some uni students have jobs/savings despite the myths otherwise…

Just bought one for my son. He has found new ways of expressing his heartfelt love for me. A pleasant change from the grunting.

    • +1

Can I have one too 'dad' :) ?

      • +1

Are you around 20 years old, half Caucasian and half Thai … and your mother has a tattoo of Elvis riding a dragon on her arse? Yeah sure. Ask your mum for my contact details ;-)

        • Photo please, sounds exotic & my age :D

  • Hi Budget PC, i just ordered one for local pickup / cash on pick up. Can you confirm that there will be one waiting for me to pick up on monday/tuesday coming up?

    cheers

    • Sure, No Worries :D

  • Can it be run on 500W PSU?

    • Not completely certain, but I'm going to say yes. My overclocked bloomfield and gtx 670 Pulls ~400W from the WALL, a 7950 doesn't use that much more than a 670 so should be well under. I hear 7xxx can suck up the juice when overclocked though.

      • +1

I would say DEPENDS. If it is a quality unit then probably yes depending on the rest of the system. If its a shaw then you might aswell try run it with lemons

        • I would go 550 PSU minimum, not saying it won't work on a 500 watts but given the long term circumstances. I'd be safe. I'm currently running one at 600watts silver stone PSU, The newer generation amd graphic cards actually use alot less power then you'd think. You can cross-fire with probably 750watt psu easily.

        • I've seen some 1200 watt power supplies available. Under what scenario would one of these be required?

        • Top of the line overclocked systems with 3 high powered graphics card. Even then most people would struggle to put enough components in a computer to require that amount.

    • +2

      A $20 SHAW psu? no

A decent quality 500w psu? definantly. 500w is their minimum requirement but in reality they could be run on 450w psu's no problem. It all depends how much power you're drawing from it, so stick to a 500w + to be safe.

  • Wow I just placed my order a few minutes ago and it's now expired. Great timing :-)

Also picked up a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H) and a couple of Sata Power Cable Splitters so that I can run 6x SATA Hard Drives along with my 2x Optical Drives. My current setup requires a USB3.0 bay to run it, and I also have a 750GB drive just sitting in my case not being used as it was my OS drive, but has been replaced with an SSD.

I paid direct deposit from Commonwealth bank. It said it can take up to 2 business days, but I'm hoping it goes through before or on Monday so that the products can be shipped earlier. Any idea how long direct deposit usually takes?

    • I'd say up to two business days.

  • +1

Just bought it earlier in the day (when it was posted) but I have to say the 7870 ice q looks like a better deal right now

  • damn - so quick… :(

  • Has anyone had a shipped notice yet? Payed via dd on Friday and haven't heard anything from them.

    • I also paid direct deposit on Friday and haven't heard anything back yet. I expected at the very least that it would have changed from Pending. It has been over 4 days and 2 of those were business days. My bank is Commonwealth and I've never had issues with direct deposit before.

I'll be spewing if it doesn't arrive before the weekend. I don't want my order sitting in some delivery depot over the weekend… and if it's not sent tomorrow then there's a good chance it will happen.

    • I picked mine up yesterday…

    • Delivered to Adelaide this morning. Nice and quick

    • Update - it shipped late Tuesday arvo, hopefully it arrives by Friday :-)

      • Arrived today :-)
