  • Can this be fit in Jeep? Mine is damaged

    • +12

Yes, based on the extremely comprehensive information provided I can confidently say it will 110% fit.

    • +5

      You bought a Jeep!?

      • I own jeep grand Cherokee.multimedia screen is damaged

        • +5

The 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee is single DIN so this will not fit.

          • @MS Paint: Its 2017 model

@Zeee: Six posts in, and only now you're telling us the year 😁

    • +1

firstly, maybe fix the damage to your jeep .

    • Jeep
      damaged

Sounds like its working as intended.

  • Really curious how well this would perform, would it lag…

    • +7

2GB of RAM would suggest it will probably be laggy

    • +2

yes 2gb ram is terrible for a headunit with autoplay/carplay, just think powering unit on / having it on is basically gonna use all that ram up, now imagine pairing a phone and attempting to do something its very laggy, i once bought a cheap headunit similar then this for my first car and quickly learnt 2gb ram is terrible, in my current car i have 6gb ram and it runs pretty smooth no complains
      !

    • Looks like it runs an MTK 8227L, a 10 year old chip.
From the first few Google results it seems it probably won't have Android 11 on it either, it's just not powerful enough. So they fake the android version and it's probably Android 6 or 8.1 Go.

So safe to say it will perform about as good as you think for it's price.

      • does apple carplay / android auto …. consider as compute intensive workload? or light duty ?

        • +1

It's zero workload - because everything runs on your phone. The only thing the headunit has to do is play the AV stream and send the touch screen presses back.
For this reason I don't think the specs of the head unit matter one bit 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • 600p?

  • +1

It looks like average or under-average head unit, but this is a bargain site, and under $70 is great item to buy.

  • Anyone got a recommendation for a unit that's better than this that can do Apple CarPlay, and easy to install? Got a 2010 rav4, but know nothing about how to install these guys.

    • +2

Save yourself a lot of installation pain and just buy a top well known brand name (if you haven’t heard of the brand a few years back, it’s not well known), eg pioneer. Literally nearly all installers in Sydney will otherwise quickly hang up on differing units installation enquires. Installation isn’t a simple task, checkout YouTube videos (noting many are biased / incentivised by the head-unit brand, including supposed online reviews) and consider the cost if you accidentally break part of your car upon installing. Hope this helps.

    • I had one of these in my RAV4. Awesome unit.

I hear good things about ATOTO.

      • They are great but not cheap. I think prices S8 series starting from AU$399, up to $900 plus added gadgets.

        • +3

I have the atoto F7 WE for $210 from Amazon au.. it's amazing and works so well in my 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer. great 7" display, essentially was plug and play.

          would recommend

          • @Mortgagetightass: Should've bought from eBay, cheaper with code. I bought mine for 159 after code.

Also +1 for F7 WE too. Runs on Linux and not Android, way less bloat and it just works.

          • +1

@Mortgagetightass: currently $161.59 on ebay with a code (available to all)

          • @Mortgagetightass: Oh, my luck,
I was looking at putting the F7 WE into my 2011 Lancer ES. Besides from the head unit itself, what other harnesses; if any, did you need to use? :)

    • +1

Please leave this job to someone who knows and save your days long pain, and poor outcome.
It is not a rocket science but there are some specialized things, colored cables, maybe reverse camera, or DAB or GPS placement and more especially in modern latest cars (BMW, Merc etc). If you have limited budget shop around for the best priced installer.
Furthermore many cars may require special connections to avoid after market installations.

Good head units probably over $250-300 and more if you like bigger screen. I used to be Sony, Pioneer follower but Android units offer lot more than those big brands now.
I bought a car recently came with 360 camera. It is amazing, easy to park anywhere any time. Think about saving you $1000's from smash repair costs. I am not sure the success for installation that requires 4x AHD cameras to be installed to unit. I think, reverse cameras are necessary
      .

I have one this unit, The system is usable.
The screen is really bad, low quality. The first time I got it powered on, I spent a few minutes to make sure it was a colour screen.
My reverse cam was good with the previous head unit, but connected to this one, it became so faint to see.
