With ozbargain spirit,I prefer putting my smart phone a little bit far from my bed and save bucks.

  • How does this compare to the sleep tracking device (can't remember what it's called now) that you strap to your head like a headband. I believe the accuracy of sleep measurement is greater due to recording of brainwave activity rather than pulse. They also have standalone monitor device that record information from the sensors so you don't have to connect to your phone.

The Zeos (which I think is the one you're thinking of) tracks electrical activity in the brain, whereas this just tracks movement. So, if you're reading in bed, this will think you're asleep, when the Zeos thinks you're awake, based on your brain activity. Both of them need to be plugged into a computer every morning to get the data.

The Fitbit Ultra pedometer will also track movement during sleep, is wireless (so you don't need to manually sync), and is $99 versus $125 for this thing. It doesn't have an alarm to wake you up in the morning, though.

If anyone is looking at buying one of these, I bought one a few years ago, used it once and never touched it again. I'd be happy to sell it for cheap.

    • I agree - I bought one of these too and do not recommend it.

less than 10 units left ! Don't miss out !

    COTD much?? :P

    EDIT:…

do you really want to sleep with your smart phone and expose yourself to the radiation it generates ?

    Scaremongering much??

EDIT2: Hmmm.. Deano are you actually the "22moo" person, that you speak of, from Facebook? Should you maybe have the REP box ticked?

It's just that yourself and 22moo have the exact same peculiar punctuation habit (ie: a space after the last word in sentence before the exclamation and question mark symbols are used). His(?) and your footprints are identical.

Deano >could be what you need !

    22moo >less than 10 units left !

Deano >to the radiation it generates ?

Oh man! I just clicked the link - and saw that "22moo" is actually a company.. not some guy off Facebook like I had the impression. Yep.. I'm feeling kind of stoopit now. ~blushes~ =)

Lol why did you edit his post, Deano?!
          Whyyyyy?? ლ(ಠ_ಠლ)
You can't edit a person's words if you use quotation marks - it's not something they said(wrote) as soon as you tamper with it. Plus you made his typing, in quotation marks, look like *your* typing.. haha I never stood a chance!

If there's a spelling error, or poor grammar, the only thing you can do is insert a "[sic]" to signify that(the mistake/s) is how it was said from the source.

That's it! I'm not playing Sherlock any more. I just suck at it! And here I thought I was on the red-hot trail of a sockpuppet.. and that, by day's end, I'd have bagged me a puppet of the sock variety, and accrued a shiny new Badge to add to my collection - Sockpuppet Huntress. ~laffn~ ;P

For around the same money you could get a zeo. When I bought mine, the cheapest place was amazon due to the shipping charges:

    http://www.amazon.com/Zeo-ZEOMBL1-Mobile-Sleep-Manager/dp/B0…

Instead of an accelerometer, it detects brain waves to determine what phase of sleep you are in. I believe that this is a more accurate method, and for me, works a lot better than the iPhone apps I tried before. Although, to be fair, this looks like it straps on to your wrist which I guess would be more accurate than the phone on the corner of mattress apps. I have been using a zeo everynight now for around 6 months. Has definitely improved my sleep.

    • I just read a few amazon reviews. Does the Zeo actually work? A lot of people seem to be saying it gives false readings

      • I had software and bluetooth problems when I first got it, but they seemed to have fixed those problems now. I don't use their website tracking application, which is an annoying flash app, so I can't comment about that. As far as false readings go, I am not sure how you could tell if a reading is false or not. It "feels" right to me. Sometimes it shows me waking up briefly multiple times in the middle of a block of REM sleep … which I don't remember in the morning. Other times I get solid blocks of REM sleep. That would be the only readings that I question, and I tend to focus on the total amount of REM sleep anyway, not the number of times woken, so it isn't a big deal to me.

Personally, I'm not frightened by mobile phone radiation, but I do feel sorry for those that are, that there isn't some way to turn a smartphone's radio hardware off (this would be useful on airplanes, too), or perhaps even Android/iOS devices that aren't phones at all.

There are some alternative options to this…

    1. Buy an iPod touch 8gb(i got mine last Christmas for $164) and get the sleep tracker app, turn off wi-fi if you want to avoid that… and you got an iPod touch now :).

    2. get a FitBit slim pedometer(http://www.fitbit.com/au/product $120 in retail AU no more Amazon) which you can put on your hand in sleep mode to track the sleep… and now you have got a costly pedometer :).
