    any good?

    • They do the trick and certainly for the price. I bought a pair to replace last year to replace some old Tannoys that my cat managed to destroy.

  • can i have a stupid question? why they call the speakers "monitors"? thanks

    • They monitor sound

They're made for sound production and generally try to get a very flat EQ so you know what you're working with. Speakers generally are there for general sound reproduction and may internally EQ or colour the sound. These "monitor" your sound, but you can also just use them as speakers and EQ as you see fit.

      • thanks!

      • What you explained about monitor speakers is correct but if Pioneer call these speakers monitor, it doesn't mean that they have that kind of flat sound.

Papa is completely correct. Monitors are intended for studio mixing but I highly doubt anyone is using these for that purpose professionally. "Monitor" these days really just means a good quality bookshelf speaker with a flat response.

  • compared to your 300w all-in-one https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/panasonic-ux100-micro-cd-…

Personally I think the Pioneers are great for bass as they are made for 'DJ' the frequency curve would suit that purpose

I don't think the Panasonic above would 'colour the sound' necessarily, they would just have different frequencies tuned i.e more for listening to general rock and rnb electronic everything, the Pioneers s pretty bassy but if you want even more bass turn it up on whatever app you are using e.g spotify

  • where are the andrew jones pioneer ones look

    • andrew jones isnt with pioneer anymore… also he only did hifi and home theater speakers not professional stuff

      • where dey at

  • I just bought the PreSonus Eris 3.5" drivers and they are fantastic, top comments too.
The 4.5" version costs $279 delivered and of course merchants check the competitors' prices before posting a deal but I believe that the PreSonus Eris have a much better value for the money.

    • I listened to them in store sounded very flat and lacked bass

  • Please excuse my lack of knowledge.

Would you consider to purchase a subwoofer to go along with these monitors/ bookshelf speakers? Does it make a difference?

    If yes, any recommendations please?

    • +1

      you would want a subwoofer

they only have 4" drivers… to me these would be almost unlistenable without a sub

it depends on how fussy you are and your budget

ALSO a further niggle is that these pioneers dont make adding a subwoofer so easy

      here's a subwoofer i own:

its actually not bad for what i paid for it BUT it will not work well with the pioneers here

  • Just get JBL LSR305s: studio monitors with a very good frequency response down to 50hz. They are used around this price and new closer to $400. These Pioneers are basically a boombox that was sawed in half.

  • Got a set of these in white during the Prime Day sales - absolute bargain at $189, sound fantastic. YMMV depending on usage requirements though. Paired with a sub and you're good to go.
