Thanks, No reviews on the App Store for me?

    • +1

      correct no reviews….

    • +20

Here is the review: The amount of data they are asking to track you is shocking for a mindfulness app.

      Data Used to Track You

      Financial info
      Contact info
      Usage data
      Location
      Identifiers
      Sensitive info

      Data Linked to You

      Health & Fitness
      Location
      Identifiers
      Sensitive Info
      Financial Info
      Contact info
      Usage data

The only thing that’s not linked to you: diagnostic

      • +12

i hope the irony is not lost on this charlatan outfit…i'd argue that persona data siphoning like this is a great source of mental stress and anxiety to many in todays society - and amplified once it is sold on to telemarketers and scammers who then proceed to call/SMS/email incessantly, daily, for years to come!

      • +1

Sign up using hide my email and call it a day :) You can always deny access to other services and see if that works.

I hate the stupid Maccas app that fails to function without live location :-\

        • +3

Pretty sure API calls they can utilise can still gather significant data without your mail or permissions.

Or at least it’s my impression.

          • @Larsson: For legal reasons they have to declare all forms of data they collect for app’s privacy report. Just because of that doesn’t mean they can have access to all of them without user’s permission.

The sucky part is like what I mentioned about Macca’s app makes the software unusable without certain permissions accepted.

        • +1

From what I understand the Maccas app asks for a location so that the options presented are relevant for the store where you currently are. And when it generates a code, it's a code for the correct store.

        • +1

These kinds of apps often use other data (uptime, disk-space, IP address, system file mtimes, battery level, etc) together to uniquely identify your device across others of their ilk. If privacy is a concern scummy apps are a no go.

    • It’s 5 stars out of 94 reviews from US App Store though

  • Thanks op

  • Thanks OP!

  • +7

Nice one! Remember taking the first step in deciding to invest in your mental health is often the most important one, even if it's as simple as getting this app and putting in a few minutes each day :)

  • Awesome. Thank you!

  • +20

According to the app store page it looks like it collects a really uncomfortably wide variety of data. And the website says it's been featured by Time, Forbes, TechCrunch, etc, but I can't find any references to those articles. Their 'Magazine' and 'Jobs' links in the footer don't lead anywhere. Probably not going to trust these guys with my data, as nice as the offering sounds.

    • +4

And the website says it's been featured by Time, Forbes, TechCrunch, etc

Don't ever take that as anything but a sign that they have paid to have any article written. I am guessing that part of the "etc.." is GQ, another publication that I see listed all the time for some type of legitimacy. It takes little to nothing to be published by some of these sites, but they trade of the name they got back in the old paper days.

    • I abandoned too when I saw they access:

      Identifiers
      Financial Information
      Usage data
      Contact Info
      Sensitive Info
      Location

That's a whole lot of information to give them, for 'free'

      • +6

As they say, if it is free then you are no longer the customer but the product. ;)

  • +3

I’m not going to bother after I saw the list of things data tracked on the app page. Compared it to similar smiling mind app and it’s a lot more data tracked and linked to you.

  • +6

A person's (mental) future is very important - nobody wants to become assholes or somethin’.

  • Thanks. I clicked on “ask app not to track” so hopefully that helps.

  • is it like Balanace ? I think Balance is always free too

    • +2

I have balance, but it's offered as 1 year free subscription (atleast that's what I got)

  • Hope they don't charge me $99 after 7 days…

    • It says $0.00 for Lifetime. So they definitely shouldn't.

      • It's probably a price error.

    • Yeah I nearly clicked continue thinking it was part of the free subscription and then I noticed the prices…

  • +1

Just discovered that once the lifetime subscription is activated, it is also valid on the Android app.

    • But doesn't work directly from Android

    • Just tried it on my S22 and it was a no go … but did work on my ipad.

    • +1

Yep i signed up on the ipad and using it on my samsung phone

  • You know what they say, if it’s too good to be true, buy two because you’d be a sucker NOT to

  • +4

I thought it was called “mental failure”

    • +1

i thought i signed up for a 'metal' future

                   \m/ (>.<) \m/

  • I think the whole premise of this free lifetime account is based on those you can afford and paid for the account

  • +9

Just use smiling mind app - always free and Aussie owned. Really well made and has helped my 9 year old as well as it has kids mode too. Can’t recommend enough.

  • OP đź‘Ť

  • +9

In true OzB fashion, I downloaded and subscribed immediately.

Then I read the OzB comments - and promptly deleted the app. Don't like spyware

    • Your username checked out but too late

  • +3

Sadly there are too many apps that collect too much information eg. Tic Toc.
I think there should be a blanket setting to disallow third party background data havesting period.

    • +1

Didn’t iPhone have option to not allow app to track?

  • +4

If you want a zero cost mental health app - look at Smiling Mind.

An Australian non-profit whose mission is "To provide accessible, life-long tools to support healthy minds."

A rating of 4.5 from nearly 500 reviews on play store.

Completely free and less than half the permissions required by this "bargain" data scraping app.

  • Any Free App/Software to Convert Photo to AI Avatar?

  • If the app is free, there's a good chance they are selling your data

    • If you're not paying for the product, you are the product!

  • +1

How does this compare to calm?

  • +1

What if you select “do not allow app to track” in ios?

  • That logo looks awfully similar to the NSW Government logo lol

  • If something is free, you are the product.

This app is clearly just a data mining app for your personal information.

  • thanks OP!

  • Thanks, OP

  • Plan is back to 299 now. Sorry, I wouldn't even touch it even if they pay me to install such creepy apps.
