Got on Plat Edge , spend $500 get $100 back. Thanks OP

    • Same with standard Elevate Amex

  • Perfect thanks!

  • +3

Great deal to combine with travel credit

    • I sure hope double dipping works.

$500 get $100 back! Essentially free with travel credit :p

My understanding is that if you have $450 of travel credit, you need to book travel valued at $1050 to be eligible for this cash back.

So if it’s $600 get $150 back, it would be $1050 of travel, and paying $450 out of pocket.

      • Yup you have to be paying a minimum of 600 on your card after any other credits.

      • +1

On my plat edge, the full amount would be charged to my card and the travel credit appears as a separate transaction.

I suppose, in my case, the travel credit won't 'dilute' my required spend amount, i.e. I got the spend $500, get $100 back. If I make a $500 booking, apply my $200 travel credit for plat edge, the $100 additional credit applies and so I effectively spend only $200.

My understanding is Amex changed the way how travel credit works, it used to be able to spend the credit Iike a giftcard to the cart

Now Amex travel credit is working like a cashback, so you need to spend the money first and they cashback the value up to $450. If that’s the case, you just need to spend $600 instead of $1050

      • And mine is only valid for hotels or car hire only. Not valid for air travel :(

        • Always the case

      • Would you know what would happen if you booked say a $600 flight?

Would you only get the $450 credit applied, and then this $150 back will be 'saved' for use towards another booking?+

Edit: Read it properly and flights excluded. If the example above was changed to a hotel booking, would the above apply?

      • Not sure about this, did a booking a week ago, the hotel cost was charged in full to AMEX travel online and the travel credit appeared separately as a payment/credit, like other credits. So far as AMEX travel was concerned I paid $524.
Wish I did the booking today.

Only got it 1 out of 3 cards and it's spend $500 get $100 credit.

    • Yeah because I think you can only book via Amex Travel using the primary card holder account . Could be wrong

  • A week late. :( already booked and used travel credit

  • Do u guys find it worth it paying $395 annual fee for $400 travel credit? Or just downgrade to essential card?

    • +1

Only you can answer this question. How much do you spend? I.e Do you fly/travel? If not, then do the points you accrue exceed way over a conversion amount of $400?

I joined the Qantas Amex one. Haven’t travelled and credit expires in December. I will most likely cancel.

    • Just comes down to how much you use the card, if it's purely for the amex offers and phone screen insurance then the essentials card is fine, but if you put a few $$$ through it then you'll earn a lot more points with the explorer.

If you spend a night away once in a while it's kind of cost neutral anyway, though obviously you'd be better off not being locked into spending your $400 at amex travel.

    • I had explorer for over 5 years, it was worth every cent
Not of much use if you aren't going to use the travel credit.

The true value of credit varies between $350-400 depending on what you book as sometimes the prices are slightly higher on Amex but other times it's a match

      • If you use the credit at a collection hotel for 2 nights you get usd100 that can go to hotel food etc. free upgrade if available at those too

I think they give best value

Some people pay a corporate rate or old rate like 295

  • Does it work for FHR if you use the prepay option since previously when I used it it shows up as Amex Travel on the statement rather than the actual hotel

    • +1

Excludes bookings where payment is made directly to the supplier (such as FINE HOTELS & RESORTS or The Hotel Collection

    • Now you can book and pay for FHR via Amex instead of paying at the counter at the hotel. It will mostly work.

  • Showed up in my Qantas discovery

On another note, is stuff on amex travel inflated? I did a dummy flight and was $50 more than if I booked via Qantas directly. I know this deal it just hotels / car hire but yeah

    • I thought it always is the case.

    • +2

Sometimes cheaper, usually more exp. Gotta search to find a deal

  • Got it on my Centurion - booked!
    Cheers OP

  • Can you still manually register for these offers like you could before?

    • +1

Nope, that stopped a year or two ago.

  • 600/150 on Platinum card, 500/100 on Qantas Ultimate

  • Does it have to be $600 in one go or can you do multiple bookings?

    • “In one or more transactions”

  • +3

Seems to be Primary card only?

  • how do u know if you have any travel credit?

  • 500/100 on qantas ultimate

  • Got 500/100 on Qantas Ultimate Primary only. Can't use it with my $450 Travel Credit because the travel credit is for Qantas flights only, and this new offer is for Hotel/Car booking only.

  • Good headline but the fine print really detracts from its usefulness

  • Oops, I recently booked a hotel with Amex Travel. The transaction is still in pending. Does it count if I save the offer now.

    • +2

I’ve saved offers after buying something but before the transaction was finalised and still got the cashback.

  • Just got my AMEX Plat this morning. And no offers yet. Assume i just missed this and no way to get it now?

    • +1

You might need to call them and get the offer added to your card manually. Can take a couple of days to populate your offers and this is limited to 10k enrolments, so it won’t last long.

      • I called them but they said these cant be added manually, will have to wait and hope it pops up over next couple of days..

  • Got spend $500 get $100 on my green charge.

  • $500 spend $100 back with my Qantas Ultimate. Pity it is not for flights, because I had $450 travel credit too :(

  • 500//100 on essentialscard

  • Nothing on my amex plat edge

  • How do I check travel credits?

  • Got spend $500 get $100 back on my Qantas Amex Ultimate Card - unfortunately it was capped to the first 20,000 cards so I couldn't add it.

  • Does anyone know if booking a hotel via Amex will count towards elite status? Like Accor IHG Marriott or Hyatt…

    • I think the nights count but the benefits are not always honoured when you stay

    • +1

No, they mostly use Expedia to book your stay.

  • -1

    max number hit, fuuuuu

    • ffs I just missed it too

  • Thanks OP!

I am struggling how to use my $400 amex travel credit in WA. 😂 hope this helps

  • +1

i have found that agoda is cheaper even after the discount than the amex travel website…

  • Anyone successfully booked flights on AMEX Travel and still gotten the credit? Or does AMEX strictly enforce the Hotels and Car Hire restriction for these deals?
