I like spicy food but I find these so hot… wish the Chicken Curry ones would go a sale more often.

    • +1

Is the chicken curry one worth it at non sale price? Also how much of the 200g packet do you use to make a meal?

      • +1

I used to buy the chicken curry paste at $2.29, at $3.99 it's probably too expensive. 1 pack can prepare 1,5kg of protein.

An alternative to this brand is Ayam Brand Nonya curry paste which you can find in every supermarket.

You are supposed to add coconut milk to malaysian curry, the more coconut you add the less spicy the curry will be.

      • +1

It is! To me, the best ready made chicken curry paste you can get

    • agreed - and I can eat very spicy!

    • +3

You can always control spice levels by
      1. Adding coconut milk
      2. Add potatoes

For me the otp is not spicy at all.

Thanks. From what I understand of rendang, it started out as basically a chilli-based preservative for meat. The spiciness allowed the meat to stay non-rancid for longer without refrigeration. So it’s meant to be very spicy. I’m curious to try this now if it’s super spicy. I love the runny nose and sweats. 😄

        Meh

  • Am also interested in answers revolving around this product :-)

  • Have been at this price at least a week

    • +7

      Why didn't you post a week ago…

I bought some more a few days ago after buying when this deal was posted previously. They are reasonably hot but really tasty! I would use half a pack for a meal that serves 2-4. Same meal as you'd use a whole pack of Spice Tailor.

  • 27.60g of sugar!

    • +5

Think you're supposed to share the dish not eat it all yourself

      • +1

Yep, the paste makes over 2lt worth of curry once you've added in the meat, veg of your choice, water and coconut milk.

Coconut milk is 1.5g of sugar per 100ml, so the total sugar content for the meal will be about 30g of sugar divided by a minimum of 8 serves.

That's so good nutritionally speaking, people on a Keto diet could have this for dinner twice and still be within their macro limits.

I can demolish the pot of rendang in two sittings. Can never get enough of it.

        • Are you suppose to water it down? As I emptied a whole pack in a dish and ate the whole thing…

    • +1

Less than a bottle of coke

    • Grapes, pears, cherries and mangoes range between 25% and 45% sugar.

  • These are great

  • These goes really well with chicken but beef I reckon would be really good. These types of curries taste good after a day or 2 when all spices are absorbed.

  • It has a great flavour, but it is too spicy for me.

  • +3

Another reason to rub my meat

    • +2

      With chili hands

      • 😬😲

  • Thanks OP. Haven't ordered since lockdown period and remember these were amazing. Better than chicken curry, laksa, etc

  • What's the price of this normally? Just wondering if I should buy now or if it's in the "it can wait" dept.

    • It's normally around $4 and even more in Asian grocery stores now. They Last quite awhile. So just buy one to try now!

    • Worth a try at this pricepoint IMO - just grabbed one

  • thanks, just bought one to try. We do like a nice rendang. I normally get the Ayam brand

  • +1

This plus Spice Tailor and my curry needs are sorted. Thanks OP

  • +1

it's that hot I got the "did eat that or drop that?" feeling ….. cause man alive that burnt multiple times over 2 days!

  • +2

A lot of people find this brand a bit too spicy, but all you need to do to effectively drop the heat is just use half the paste instead of all of it. You'll still get all the flavor without any issue, just less of the heat.

Alternatively you can add an extra tin of coconut milk, but that means you'll have to spend longer cooking the curry down to get it to that dry-ish consistency a Rendang should have.

  • +1

    Fuiyoh

  • How long do these or the chicken curry last in the fridge? A week?

    • +1

Just freeze if you won't eat it in a few days.

    • +1

3-4 days tops, coconut milk is the main concern.

  • Oos

  • Currently unavailable…

    Not a bargain

  • +1

    Laksa deal please.

  • 2.65 is the regular price for the rendang, not sure why they sell the regular chicken curry for 3.99. I order about 50 packs from that brand every year as they are great for meal prepping with the Instant Pot.
But it tastes better with fattier pieces like drumsticks or thighs than with chicken breast!

  • Cooked this tonight - was delicious - thanks OP I'll be buying more when they come back in stock ;)

    • This is back in stock

      • Awesome - thanks mate ;)

  • These are so damn tasty - does anyone know how long you’ll be waiting if ordering more from Amazon when ‘temporarily out of stock’?

Tempted to order a handful more even if I won’t get them for a few weeks.

    • This is back in stock
