Using apple pencil on this ipad is a mess

Y? I have older gen 7 & 8 and apple pencil works great

The 10th gen has USB C but instead of using the 2nd gen pencil like the rest of the modern iPads, the 10th gen only works with the first gen pencil so you have to use an adapter to charge the pencil from the iPad.

Apple has a genius price-point sales ladder it walks you up and punishes you for not opening your wallet enough.

64GB storage on an iPad is an evil sin

You turn evil when you bite apple

    • For my personal use cases (and I admit the vast majority of peoples') I completely agree, but there is a legitimate audience for something like this. It's about the perfect storage amount for my mid-60s mum, who has well-defined but uncomplicated needs and will basically only use it for photos (she takes few), basic life admins apps, and a few movies I'll try to convince her to watch the next time she takes a holiday, and it would also be useful for businesses using them exclusively as displays/customer interaction tablets (though obviously they might want to check if they can get their POS software on Android so they can pick up something cheaper, and actually 64GB might be overkill for those customers).

      • This needs a paragraph break somewhere.

  • will 64GB be enough for year 4 student?

    • +3

      not even enough for prep

      • +2

        Prenatal perhaps

I have a grade 4 and a grade 3 who have had 9th gens with 64gb since 2021. There was only one time we had to clear some space on the year 4's and that was because she was shooting and editing lots of videos. She had also amassed around 20gb of Procreate files since she is really into that. I showed her how to export what she wanted to keep into her OneDrive and had her delete what she didn't need anymore. Problem solved.

My grade 3 has never been close to the limit but she doesn't create as much and neither of them game, which I'm sure would increase their storage needs. If they aren't downloading lots of games I don't see how 64gb could be an issue.

Primary school children need ipads now? What if the family is barely scraping by, and they need a newer ipad that costs $500~. I remember when I was in public high school, some family's had to pay school fees over a few weeks/months, can't imagine what requiring these devices would put the struggling families through.

Not sure about other schools but my kids school allowed you to rent iPads. Otherwise you can always buy a second hand iPad, that too using a BNPL service to help manage your income and expenses a bit better. These days though I don't think I've found one family that doesn't have an iPad to help keep their child distracted/busy.

        • same here, not sure about other school. but some schools have online homework or reading which require IPAD or PC to complete.
Hence you can borrow one from school if you don't have. We do see some students return their IPAD at the end of the team.

        • Good to know, thanks! Don't know anyone in primary/high school so I wasn't sure how it worked.

      • It sucks cause all the kids want them for is for Minecraft and roblox….

So glad my kids were before this time.

  • Don't see much benefit this one has over the 9th generation. Especially if your main aim is to get a new iPad as cheap as possible

    • Seems like paying $200+ for coloured case and a USB-C connector rather than the lightning ;-/

      • +1

i would pay extra for the USB-C connector. Not sure I'd pay $200, but definitely $50.

So much more convenient having one cable to charge all devices rather than 2….
