    • I don't think hippies would be super comfortable at the anarchy\pesudo anarchy of a local skatepark, lol.

I think you need to brush up on your understanding of subcultures.

Got one last year. They’re actually really good quality. You’d have to be a pretty good skater for these to not be adequate.

(Coming from a 10yr youth of skating almost daily and spending hundreds on individual components).

  • I'm impressed with what I got in last weeks sale

  • I'm probably the only person here that's old enough to remember back in the mid 1960s when we cannibalised a pair of roller skates to make a skateboard from the wheels and an old piece of floorboard.

    • +1

Not on that level but took wheels from roller skates to put on kmart board in 80s……..went so much better…..

      • +1

Yes, I can believe that would have been an improvement. The Kmart name is not exactly synonymous with quality.

My first board was a floorboard / skate hybrid from the op shop in the 80s. Ran out the shop with it and my Mum gave me a floggin'. Store lady let me keep it..15 yrs later I knocked out my front teeth at the local ramp. Good memories..haha..

we've all watched back to the future. we all know you had handle bars on that thing.

also my first memory of a skateboard was using my older brothers thin 1970s board made out of clear gold resin.

      something like that.

around 87 my mates were all using boards similar to modern ones.

      • Thanks… you really cracked me up with your comment. You made my day!

These are great for simeone getting into stakeboarding and a world better than the junk you get from kmart etc.

  • Really nice deal, even if they only have 7.25 - 7.75" available don't fret…the 8"+ boards that most pros ride are a bit heavier and better suited to people expertly knocking out flip tricks I think.

That's a good deal! Currently there are a lot of Element skateboards on sale for $50 via element's website, but $30 is really a good price. https://www.elementbrand.com.au/skateboards/?srule=low-to-hi…

"Perfect for anyone with kids wanting to…"
    Break bones
    Sprain ligaments
    sustain brain injuries
give their dentist a lot of money

    • +4

More likely that these things happen while playing aussie rules than skateboarding

        🤣
True true, but humans vs humans is better than humans vs
        railings
        concrete
        stairs
        potholes

So you're saying don't do things as dangerous as skateboarding? Better sell your car.

Here's 10 more things that are more dangerous than skateboarding: https://theboardr.com/post/More_Dangerous_Than_Skateboarding

          • +1

@King Steuart: Nice list, but they only refer to death. I didn't say anything about death.

Cars are a necessary evil. We sit exams and do practical exams. Have a whole lot of safety features. I don't think a s8r boi does any of those.
Why knowingly participate in something so dangerous? Just my opinion, is all. It's fun but… 🤷‍♀️

Sell my motorbike would be next I suppose.

            • @lordra: Something a sk8r boi does do that drivers don't in their training is frequently and intentionally engage in potential accidents and controlled falls by learning new moves, which over time actually teaches you to instinctively avoid landing in ways that could result in a hospital trip, and this extends to overall better balance not only in skateboarding but also in day to day life.

Everything has risks but skateboarding is relatively safe in the grand scheme imo, and it's a uniquely fun way to improve one's balance. The peeps you see at the skatepark might be more likely than non-skaters to break their hip in the bowl if they get cocky or screw up badly enough, but I'd wager they're much less likely than non-skaters to break their hip to a random fall as they age too.

It's weird because pros can repeatedly launch themselves down multiple sets of stairs while rolling backwards flipping the board intending to land on the handrail in some specific way, and they can seemingly fail at this procedure a whole bunch of times without seriously hurting themselves, while at the same time a beginner could put themselves out of action for months with a mangled ankle after doing nothing in particular on smooth level ground if they haven't yet learnt how to fall or what kind of "unpredictable" things the board might do.

That is to say, it can be safe and it can be unsafe, skateboarding isn't just one thing and it really depends on what you're doing and how you're going about it!

I'm sure you can find a good deal on bubble wrap around Christmas time

  • Got a vision board from the 80s with cockroach wheels

  • +2

    Also at DFO Brisbane Airport.
Saw your post and thought id try my luck. $30 - plenty of stock, grabbed one for my daughter.

  • Got one this week, these skateboards are leaps and bounds more responsive and light, than the $30 skateboards from Kmate in the 90's.

  • This is a ridiculously good deal

If the trucks wheels bearings etc are good, this is like $300 worth of gear.

  • Not too many left at the Homebush DFO.
