Samsung PRO Plus MicroSD Card 512GB $36 Delivered @ Samsung Education Store

750

There are 2 models of microSD card in the PRO line on the website, the MB-MD512KA/APC is listed at $134.10 with read/write speeds listed at 160/120 MB/s, while the MB-MD512SA/APC with read/write speeds listed at 180/130 MB/s is listed at $36. Prices for all other sizes are the same between models so possibly an error.
Confirmation of student status done with a .edu.au email
I don't quite understand the difference and they don't show in the cart correctly compared to the more expensive model so if anyone can help me out there I would appreciate it. My order was honoured on July 27 and the price is still the same with stock available.

EDIT: The 512MB option has been removed from this model.

  • Just ordered one via the Samsung Industry partner EPP. Lets hope it comes!

    • Beat me to it. You got the last (and probably only) one.

      • It actually allowed me to add 2 but i thought i only need one!

  • $38 on westpac portal via bank app

    • how do you access this portal thing ?? i can't find anything in the app

  • It's $149 at TGG so it's probably a pricing error. Right?.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/samsung-512gb-micro-sdxc-pro-…

    Apparently the RRP is $149.

    • It's $49.99 on Amazon
      Could not share link

      • +1

That's the EVO Plus, not the PRO Plus.

        • My bad, you are right!

          • @Shad: And also from some third party seller. And who knows if that stock is not counterfeit.

  • $32 via samsung industry partner, however it is out of stock

How do you get a edu.au address?

    • +2

You probably have to be a student or a teacher. Hence why it's called Education Store.

      • How to get without being one

        • +1

I don't think you can as edu.au email address is strictly reserved for education.

          • @hollykryten: Are they even given out anymore? I've known uni and TAFE students that received zilch.

            • +1

@Guybrush57: Yeah i'm currently a TAFE student (through CQU) here in QLD and i was only given an address which is run through Gmail. It ends with @cqumail.com and not edu.au

          • @hollykryten: My alumni email is .edu , thanks USYD.

            • @sekhon147: Shout-out to UWA which had brilliantly cut the budget for supporting alumni service (with short notice as well) since 2018.

        • You put in a kids.

    • Easiest way would probably be applying for one of those fee-free TAFE courses. You'll get an edu.au email

      • Well i'm currently doing a fee free TAFE course and all they gave me is an email address provided through Gmail.

        • It's always worth a try anyway to see if it works. Sometimes companies add other domain extensions. Could try support too as it won't be hard to show that they're a genuine educational facility

    • you need a child to be a successful ozbargainer

  • Shame, found the list of products let's you click an add to cart option but says cart is empty.

  • Seems to be out of stock

What’s awesome, is when I buy my apple phone, that it costs me $400 to get the 512GB upgrading from the 256GB.

Knowing that but the whole card retail, costs $30 lol

    • Thats why, buy Apple stock

    • To be fair, the internal storage is far quicker than an SD card. Regardless it is a total rip-off

      • Even faster than say a SanDisk Extreme Pro 512GB micro SD?. Those can read up to 200MB/s and 140MB/s write

        • Wow tbh I didn't know they were that quick only just took notice of the capital B too.. that's great speeds. Makes it over a gigabit read and write, I'm super impressed.

But yeah I had a look around for more info an it appears the 14 pro max for example has the following speeds:

          Read: 1600MB/s, Write: 1280MB/s

          Source:
https://youtu.be/gyBRX40KFJk check at 01:52 for a better view.

It's using NVMe so it is typically going to go faster. That said the performance upgrades on SD cards have me astounded. I almost can't believe you can buy a 1TB micro SD card, they're so tiny.

          • +1

@lancesta: For that price of a 14 Pro Max it ought to have the cream of the crop mobile flash storage performance. I mean you're paying an absolute fortune price for the internal storage.

But for Android smartphones in general don't have NVMe for internal storage.

Apparently the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra only has UFS internal storage. And according to this it reaches 1GB/s read.

            https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh…

But this is the exception as it's a very expensive flagship phone. Cheap Android phones can't get any where near that sort of internal storage performance. Those would be slower than say that Sandisk Extreme Pro micro SD card.

What’s awesome, is when I buy my apple phone, that it costs me $400 to get the 512GB upgrading from the 256GB.

Not only that, you also get to re-buy that memory every few years, when you upgrade your phone.

With a micro-SD, you just take it out of your old phone, and pop it into your new phone. All your files are instantly available, no "restore from cloud" required. Also easy to pop the card out and plug it directly into a PC for data backup purposes.

And should your phone suffer total failure, like driving over it in a car, you can usually get the micro-SD card out and continue to use it.

Can you even restore 512GB from Apple's cloud storage? Isn't that way more data than the free cloud storage Apple gives you?

      • +1

Exactly. The 5GB free was cool with my 16GB 3GS.. not so much with my 512gb iPhone 13 PM.

      • It shows not for sale now.. unfortunate

        • +2

the "not for sale" notice has disappeared, I suggest to still keep an eye on that page.. I managed to get some when it showed in stock…however that page is showing out of stock every once in a while…

          • @Tax Payer: Yeah it comes and goes but never when I see it lol

  • Managed to get an order in just now.

  • yesterday morning no stock, today back in stock so keep trying

  • Did the stock alert email subscription actually work for anyone?

    • +1

Nope, just have to check back reguarly.

    • I had a stock alert set but never got the email.

  • Samsung Edu Portal was down for maintenance, and after coming back up the product is now "Not For Sale". 🤦🏻

  • Having problem with registering using edu.au email, anyone has the same issue?

    • I've been having issues logging in, but works fine on mobile site.

Maybe try registering on mobile site?
