Samsung/Asurion Tradein - Issues Anyone?

Hey all,

Just curious to see if anyone else is having or has had issues with Samsung/Asurion's TradeIn program.

A few days ago, I tried to trade in my phone and successfully got the TradeIn ID. My credit card was charged the 'security fee' of $465 which is basically the trade in value they give you for your phone and then refund once they receive the phone.

All seemed to be going well. I put the trade in ID in, put in my shipping/payment details to finalise the order, hit 'place order' and…..WEBSITE crashed. Here's where the fun begins. Order didn't go through, I received no order confirmation and my credit card wasn't charged for the phone. So order failed.

However, I received an email saying my TradeIn ID has been used and with details to send my phone in. However, order never placed. I go into website, try cancel the Tradein ID to get the security fee refunded and try again to order the phone. No luck. Chat with Samsung. No help - contact Asurion they say. I reach out to Asurion multiple times. They say they'll cancel the trade ID within 48 hours. It hasn't been done and $465 security charge is cleared on my credit card with no ability to use the TradeID to get a discount off a new phone.

A mess! Interested to see how others have gone?

Cheers!

Welp, at least they replied you lol…

If you used a CC you can do a chargeback. If not you are in for a ride. I had to chase up with them for 4 months to get my $80 back.

As for your trade ID forget about it. Its gone. If your device has dual sim you can use the other one to start a new trade ID request but imo just stay away unless the deal is too good to pass on.

nope, 1st I'm hearing of any issues with this program /s

  • if you search the keyword Asurion on that search box top right corner you'll find some interesting dicussions

  • they charged me after 11 months without any communication - go figure

There is a reason why they are called "Ass-urion"

  • Similar thing happened to me after ordering last week. I cancelled the trade ID through asurion once Samsung website crashed. The debit was showing as pending for few days. Then it was cleared and then yesterday it appeared back in my account as a credit.

    Use the search facility LUKE…..

  • Exactly the same situation. Took me a week to get hold of them. Charge is still on the card at the moment, they said up to 7 days.

Just realised that CeX is literally offering more money than the trade in with the bonus $100… Might just find one next time I'm in Sydney and hand it over in person.

  • I M STUCK TOO. I have sent them several emails no REPLY. Samsung cant even do anything. I am so pissed.

    • Any one gone to NSW Fair Trading regarding Asurion?

      • They fixed mine, but took bit of time.

  • They charged me $110 for the device which was supposed to be refunded once they received it.
AusPost says it was delivered 11 days ago.

They didn't refund me, charged an extra $60 penalty fee, and ignored my messages on their website.
I couldn't find a phone number to call them, which says a lot.

I have sent an email to Samsung (have no hope this is gonna work), and have now opened a dispute through my bank.

    So many lessons learned.

Just been charged the $60 late fee on the 24th for a device they received on the 19th. Kept all the Auspost tracking. I have lodged the conversations on the Ausrion website but I have also gone through Samsung to escalate it and received a ticket number for my complaint.

If the $60 is not returned in a timely fashion I will be doing the rounds of all relevant ombudsman and consumer protection organisations.

This is not a good look for Samsung to use the services of shysters!

    Definitely not happy Jan!!

  • I have just had the same thing happen. They recieved my old phone on the 19th Feb and charged me a late fee on the 23rd.

Not a isolated case at all. It seems Samsung's internal processes in Australia are pretty messy, in multiple product divisions.

  • I've had issues with Asurion too. I would stay away from them. I tried to contact Samsung too and so far they have not been able to help. As I said, I would stay far, far away from Asurion.
