  • Nice! I need to upgrade my Mac Mini and have been waiting for some deals on the M2 Pro. Given that I'm not in a hurry, should I wait for Black Friday or is this already a great deal ($1799 for M2 Pro Chip, 10-core CPU, 512GB SSD)?

    • My two cents, this is probably the best deal you'll get until they release the M3 Pro (probably late 2024) other than getting an Apple refurbished stock.

It's very rare to get more than 10% off Apple computers, usually only happens as the next model is coming in.

Definitely make sure to check around on discounted gift cards, my work gets me 5% off JB Hi-Fi so that's further savings, plus from what I've read online the Apple Store will price match so you could combine with the 20X flybuys points on apple gift cards to effectively get a further 10% off (in flybuys dollars though).

    Nice 👍
Go to Officeworks and price beat 5% then use 10%-15% discounted Ultimate Everyone GC (from previous deals)

Fairly sure OW has already lowered their prices by $2.

      So no price beat.

        we've been out bargained

  • Do Macs get much cheaper than this? Have to get one for my kid going into Year 7 next year. Not sure if I should wait or pull the trigger??

    • +3

I suggest to wait if you’re only going to need of this year. This kind of deal happens every now and then

      • +2

I agree, your kid probably doesn't need the latest model and it's expected they will announce the new M3 chips around October/November this year. That should allow you to get a better deal on the outgoing M2 stock.

Damn, the Mac Mini M2 for $899 is probably the fastest computer you can get under $1k. Nice little package too. Pity my M1 is still plenty for my needs.

    • The fastest computer with lowest ram lol

      • yeah, 8GB is still not enough even with the M2 chip. Open up a handful of apps and computer will start chugging away

        • Not my experience. I guess it depends what you're doing.

          • @ForkSnorter: Browser, Spotify, Discord and Teams and it starts to crumble :p

            • @jupy: That is absolutely bizarre. I can edit 4K video while safari and garage band are open, with no hiccups. I have the 512GB version, some people say the bigger internal SSD makes a difference.

              • @ForkSnorter: The bigger internal SSD absolutely makes a difference but not because of the size. The 256GB model uses one 256 GB SSD while the 512GB has 2x256 GB SSDs which effectively double the speed of your SWAP memory

    • Is JB selling a M2 mini with 16GB RAM?

  • Pretty good. MacBook Air 13” 512gb m2 comes out slightly cheaper at JB than the educ store (2069 vs 2099). A new laptop would be nice to have but not a need to have, combined with rumours of m3 MacBook Air being released this October… so we have the usual conundrum, but now or wait for updated chips which are forever around the corner.

  • For any future people, Apple Store will price match if it's in stock at a nearby (50km) store. They will only reduce the price by a maximum of 10% so it actually cost me like $1 more.

If you're using gift cards you must not redeem them to you Apple account balance. You can't use that in-store in Australia as of right now, they do permit in the US so maybe one day it'll come here.
