[PC] Baldur's Gate 3 US$29.99 (~A$45.28) @ GOG (VPN Required)

1870

High price in most territories but Ukraine (or Moldova) is an exception.

  1. Clean your browser or use fresh one.
  2. Log into paypal.
  3. Switch VPN to Ukraine (or Moldova).
  4. Jump onto GOG and login.
  5. Confirm 29.99 price, checkout with paypal, and save.

According to Scrooge McDeal, Moldova is also US$29.99 and can be accessed on Tunnel Bear Free VPN!

Nordvpn has Ukraine, if you hit a login error on payment you need to add a phone number to paypal account, google pay might work but i had no luck.

Same as other gog VPN deals if you are looking for more info https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/589447

Purchased on steam on the weekend. Might try this method once I'm home and refund on steam.

    • +2

its worth noting multiplayer works with people on steam as well.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming. I was aware that it worked that way for DOS2 but wasn't certain for Baldurs Gate 3.

  • +2

Gog version ok on steam deck?

    • +5

Should be fine, just a little more work to install.

  • +7

Hey everyone! If Ukraine location doesn't work for you. You can use Tunnel Bear Free VPN and put location on Moldova. First VPN ON, and open new tab on incognito mode. Price should be US$29.99.
    Cheers

    • good idea! il add it to the post

  • +53

I'm happy to pay Larian what they're asking. They've done right by me with this game.

    • +3

I grabbed it on EA launch straight away after Divinity Original Sin 2. That was a brilliant game and I am really looking forward to this.

    • +3

Agree with the PC price but $105 for the standard edition on PS5 is a bit ridiculous in my opinion, especially given theres no other alternative to the PS store since its digital release only.

      • +1

The standard edition is the equivalent of an ultimate edition with 3 years of DLC and expansions for other releases.

        • Wait what? Are there going to be dlc / expansions for bg3?

          • @Nedkellyinthebush: No he means that the standard edition of balders gate 3 has more content than most games with their ultimate edition and 3 years of live service content

      • You can buy it physical but it's more as it comes with added goodies. Cool stuff though! I'm happy it finally arrivwd

  • How did I not know this exists? BG2 was amazing when I was a kid.

    • +4

This has been a long time coming for release. Genuinely excited about this one.

      • I've been seeing it all over youtube for the last 2 or 3 months - I had started to think it was already out! Haha

A few friends of mine played BG2 and are super excited for this new one

        • +1

Its currently in early access so you can play right now. Full release is in a couple days.

    • You do know BG1 and BG2 have enhanced editions as well?

I got a steam deck and going to play through all of them when it arrives.

      • lol you'll be busy for the next 10 years. Don't forget to play through icewind dale etc

    • +1

Divinity Original Sin 2 is fantastic and worth checking out too. It's the game Laurian made before they did BG3, it's extremely similar in style, gameplay and quality.

      • Do you need to have played the first to properly enjoy the second?

  • +15

Fantastic game, played through the first arc. Have loved everything Larian has made. They deserve the full $90

  • +2

Brought the early access when it 1st came out got to admit i am looking forward to the full release but dissapointed how much of the BG formula they have changed

Plays more like Divinity original sin then BG

    • Thats true. Just looking at the gameplay, I thought I was watching DOS2.

    • Having watched all their streams to date and having played 20-something hours of EA, I’m happy with this iteration. I think it’s amazing

    • I'd say it plays more like Neverwinter nights, but that's not a bad thing. This style is definitely easier to play on console/gamepad

  • +28

Happy to pay full retail for making an old school pc game and not a microtransaction rubbish.

  • +13

Is this where all d4 players are heading to?

    • -1

Yeah turn based RPG and ARPG, totalyl the same game

      • +1

        Well you have 3/4 letters

  • I think I read somewhere that gog can be slower than steam to receive patches, anyone know if true? With a game like this I expect there'll be a lotta patches

    • +3

I hadn't heard of this being a thing for a few years, but apparently gog galaxy has a beta branch option nowdays where they can offer patches without having to update all the offline installers at the same time so i expect they would be using that if they end up doing rapid updates.

      • Cool thanks

    • +3

From what I can see it looks like Larian are releasing the patches at the same time for both platforms. They're even uploaded a few days in advance on the GoG backend.

  • +12

Yeah I like a bargain like the rest of us but dunno about the ethics or pretending to be at war to get a discount here :P

    stolen valorish

    • +4

same price in Moldova if that works for you. If there wasn't a war, Russia would likely get a similar price rather than being banned from purchasing.

    • +2

It is also against the terms of service of basically all of these services to use VPNs to get around regional pricing.

May as well just pirate it.

  • Thanks.

  • +1

    Never played any before…
Ok to jump in at 3?

    • +10

They designed the game for fans of the series and newcomers alike. No prior experience required :)

      • +2

Thanks, will give it a go
        Need something to replace D4

        • +1

Huge change of pace. It's a lot more story, role playing and living an adventure

  • waiting for another $36 deal..

    • sanctions mean no Russian pricing unfortunately

  • +2

I'm torn. I will be playing this game between my PC and my Steam Deck, so keeping the Steam version will provide my Steam Deck with pre-cached shaders and smoother performance, but this workaround is significantly cheaper than the $89.95 that I paid. First world problem but if I didn't have the Steam Deck I think I would purchase this via GOG for my PC.

    • +7

same - but big price difference..plus do i really have the 500 hours of time required to throw at this right now? Or should I wait like…60 years so i can play it once i can afford to retire and finally play this, then die IRL after i finish the last quest?

      • +3

I haven't pre-purchased a game in years, and the only reason I have this time is because of the positive reception of the early access and the ability to refund easily. Larian is one of the last bigger studios who truly care about the game and the players, so the added benefit of intentional Steam Deck support and the pre-cached shaders is worth the extra cash IMO. If you can afford it, why not.

      • +2

I had similar thoughts about this but im only playing on PC which makes the choice simpler. Basically historic Larian price data shows that its probably not going to drop in price until winter sales and will probably be a small (10/15%) discount if it does. So if you are planning on playing at all in the next 5 months you may as well buy now. If shaders are worth the price difference then yeah you may as well just buy at full price on steam

      • +1

patient gaming FTW. Also wait for patches, like all big and complex RPGs there will be SHEDLOADS of bugs to stomp.

        • Shouldn't be too bad here as act 1 has had a ton of testing already

  • I was going to pirate it.
But at this price I'll buy it.

    • +1

how do you pirate games these days? lol

      • +6

Fitgirl, DODI repacks are your friend. Annoying though for games that will receive lots of updates as you have to manually update them/they may not be available in a timely fashion.

      • I mean there is literally a site that uploads every game that gets put on GOG

        • That's disgusting. I mean who would do such a thing? And where do you even find such a site? Like what is the actual link so I know to avoid it?

          • @Munki: yes better put those links in the bookmark… I mean blacklist!

  • +1

OP thanks very much for sharing this deal.

Regarding GOG, their marketing selling card is no DRM but I advise you guys before buying their games to check very carefully the description.
I bought Dawn of War II and only later I discovered that I may not set and play in private VPNs nor in private LAN parties.
GOG has modified the interface of this game and there is no more the option to join and to create LAN connection, the only option to subscribe to GOG's private server.
So GOG says we fight DRM but we monopolize our games which means you must only play with us!!!

    • got a source for this? id be interested in reading about it but can't find any info

    • I dont nessecarily think they did this deliberately, rather a side affect.

      Still sucks though

  • Has the game finally gone gold?

    • i think it was wednesday, US time, so tomorrow? pre-release saves are not compatible with final release i read on steam so maybe better to wait it out a few more hrs

    • +1

don't download yet, final client isn't up

  • Did they every bring back realtime with pause as per the original games? I'm not a fan of turn based.

    • You have options I think…maybe

  • +8

For those having trouble paying - just add $30USD to your account balance, then turn on your VPN and pay with the balance.

    • Thank you! Only method that worked for me.

  • +3

Cheers OP, and greetings from sunny (I assume) Moldova! Had some issues logging into GOG account with incognito Chrome, but worked fine in the Edge equivalent. Paid with Paypal.

  • +1

Great deal! Connected via Moldova and paid via PayPal.

  • +3

In case someone hasn't mentioned this already, don't forget to pickup the free "Baldur's Gate 3 Goodie Pack" from GOG https://www.gog.com/en/game/baldurs_gate_3_goodie_pack

  • This looks great, unfortunately for me I'm not a fan of turn based combat.

  • Worked for me! Loved Original Sin 2. Can't wait to jump into this. First Baldur's Gate game for me.

  • Worked for me, used the same method for cyberpunk back on launch day with gog

  • Trying to not get this with starfield so close… D4 was meant to last til then but the temptation is strong… either of those games will steal more time than i have.

  • +3

Apparently buying it now, before the release date of 4th August (1am local time) will get you an upgraded version to digital deluxe for free.

    https://www.dexerto.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-pre-release-bo…

    • Apparently digital deluxe gets you access to act 1 72 hours early but I can't see any evidence of that

      • +2

Console only, since they brought the PC release date forward a month.

      • -1

I believe that's only for the PS5 version coming in September, the PC has no preload because of the early access they already had running. (Edit: sorry for dogpiling, hasn't refreshed the page to see the other answer!)

  • Thank you. Worth the trip to Ukraine .. Slava Ukraine

  • Is this better than diablo 4?

    • Its better then Forza and Candy Crush.

    • +4

It is a very different game. Diablo 4 is more about fast-paced action, level-up, grinding, and mob battles.
Baldurs Gate is slow-paced, focused on a dense story, strategy and role-playing. It is inspired by table top RPGs experience and the D&D universe.

Both are fun, but not comparable.

  • +2

Can't install today, need to wait till 1am on 4th Aug

  • How do I check the forex rate? PayPal is wanting to charge $49 at the moment.

I can't find what the rate would be if I choose to let ING or 28 degrees manage the exchange rather than using PayPals own conversion rate.

  • Thanks OP, was hoping there'd be a cheaper workaround than $90. Feels like PC games are the most expensive on release these days since you can always get an in-store or Amazon console deal!

    • This is about $100 on console so not this time around

  • Is it best to install using the GoG launcher or to download the install files manually?

    • -1

Probably the launcher so you don't have to grab patches later on, remember final client isn't out till 1 am so don't download yet

  • Confirmed and working flawlessly. Cheers!

  • +1

Can anyone recommend a VPN that wont break to bank, to take advantage of this deal?

  • Thanks worked great.
