I had a 3% overseas transaction charge totaling almost $15 which I thought was a bit steep. Rather than refund the original payment method, and then re-initiate the transaction on my Wise card, I contacted the bank supplying the credit card (HSBC) over chat, and asked for a refund. No reason given.
They refunded it immediately.
I then went on to CBA and asked for a refund on account fees because I'd moved to UBank and forgot they had minimum deposit/transaction amounts once you're over 30.
They refunded all of them immediately.
Went across all my providers, did the same thing - saved $180 in fees. I assume there's a minimum not-worth-arguing discretion or policy with each bank, but for CBA I've been doing it monthly for 6 months.
