I'm sure people will remind you of when you ran what promo :P

  • Same bat time..

  • +1

    I gave up. :)

  • +1

Time to order more thanks :)

    • +9

getting negged for wating to order coffee…I have seen it all now. Think mods need to sort these trolls out!

  • +3

Was quite happy with the Sumatra blend from the last deal. They need to just make this the normal price.

    • +1

Scan the QR code on each bag 👌

  • +6

A lot of people on here bang on about the Aldi beans. If you drink Latte's, maybe they are fine as you can hardly taste the coffee. If you want a nice tasting long black, you have to pay more for your beans, and $30/kg is about the minimum to get anything decent delivered. I've always found the Sumatra to be good, fresh and delivered promptly.

    • +8

Aldi beans are very overrated, if they were selling for $30 a kilo no one would be buying them.

      • +17

No one would be buying them, but they don't sell for $30..

        • -4

Lucky for them they don't i guess

          • +1

@Snowy83: What? Why're you responding like they dont set their own prices? Nothing to do with luck.

      • +4

I have a bag of medium roast Lavazza that I absolutely cannot wait to see the bottom of. It's good for $8, but for something as sacred as my morning coffee it just simply doesn't taste as good as roasters like Airjo.

        • The dark roast is just as bad. Very bland one-dimensional tasting coffee

        • +3

I figure Aldi coffee is good for dollar cost averaging, and reminding you that it's worth spending more

          • @PhilToinby: Aldi is surprisingly decent if you can find a good roast date

            • @tanabe88gg: Where is the roast date on the bags?

Curiosity got the better of me & I decided to give the Aldi dark roast beans a try. I didn't even bother checking until I got home. All I could find was a best before date.

It's hard to complain at $8/kg… but definitely not for folk who drink their coffee black.

              • +1

@bobbieb: It's not $8 a kilo, think their cheapest beans start at $11.99 or even $12.99 if I am not mistaken? For what its worth, we just had bought some beans from Inglewood roasters, just for a change, and the b/f prefers the Aldi beans. Maybe our local just gets them fresh, but they are more than good enough for us. Grateful we can buy quality beans at such a low price.

                • +1

@HappyPants: Must have been on special at my local last weekend. It was what triggered the impulse buy.

I'd be happy enough at $12.99… my local roaster charges that for 250g.

              • +2

@bobbieb: From memory there's the use by date and then there's another number underneath it which if you reverse it it's the use by minus a year and 3 months or something. I took this to be the roast date. Have a look next time you're there, the pattern is consistent across all their range from memory. If you're lucky you can find one under a month old. I usually didn't bother of they were older and get an ozb special instead

      • +1

No one would buy them even at $25

        • +1

For the person who negged me, if you can get freshly roasted beans delivered for $28, why on earth would you pay $25 for Aldi beans? I buy Aldi's sometime and pay $17 for the SO, but if they were $25, for sure I would not buzzer..

      • Finally someone says it

    • +1

My experience with Aldi beans is that after a week~ of being opened their quality drops significantly to the point where I'm only reaching 7 bars of pressure and it extracts like water. As soon as I fill up with freshly roasted/delivered it's immediately up to 9-10 bars with no adjustments needed!

    • +1

Airjo are the one brand that I can taste the quality, $33 inc Express Shipping is fantastic for these beans.

    • I only have short black coffee and aldi’s medium and dark roast beans have been really good tasting compared to any i’ve tried so far. ymmv :-)

  • +1

Which blend would you recommend for plunger coffee. Something with smooth taste.

    • +1

Columbia. It's a little darker than medium but not too dark. I reckon it goes great in a plunger.

      • Thank you! will give it a go.

@AIRJO CoffeeRoasters can I pick a later date for shipping as I already have a fair bit of coffee left but don.t want to miss out on this special.

  • -8

    Here we go again.

        User name checks out!

      • I was looking for his comment, and I see he gave himself a brand new name!

    • +1

Why so many negs? There's been a post every 2-3 weeks for over 2 years.

      • The few fans are very active, I assume they're paid

  • Been enjoying the Sumatra. Would love to try something else but don’t want to risk it

    Using for latte’s

    • I enjoy the Enterprise Blend. But i am thinking of trying something else myself just dont know which to go for

    • +5

Colombia is my go-to, and I've tried all of them! Sumatra is delicious but I love the chocolatey notes of Colombia.

  • Thanks Airjo. We drink a lot of coffee and are very happy with the ‘Sumatra’ blend.

  • Any recommendations for a double shot 250ml latte? Most cheap supermarket medium coffee blends tend to be overwhelmed by the lite milk I use. I would like to taste the flavour of the coffee.

    • +1

One you go black, you'll never go back!

  • Any option to delay shipping?

    • +7

      Send via Australia Post?

  • Awesome, no Cerritos blend, I'll settle for another Enterprise then.

  • I've recently purchased the Breville barista express, I've been using ALDI's Dark beans, I mainly do cappuccino and I like it strong, so using the double filter basket, I prepare 2 of those for my cup (technically that would be 4 expesso shots) and then add the milk. I use a regular cup of about ~240ml. Anyone else do these?

I would like to try a different coffee, which one is recommended for my super duper strong cappuccinos?

    • +1

That's a lot of caffeine! Usually one double shot from Aldi beans is strong enough for a nice morning buzz for me but YMMV

      • LOL then my taste buds may be numb or something!! Haha

        • +1

It's your adenosine receptors we need to be worried about 🤯

          • @muwu: Haha I don't know what are those hopefully nothing too serious!!😅

For what is worth, for as long as I remember, when buying a barista coffee, I would always order the same: Medium size cappuccino with an extra shot. And when I was a bit short on money, I would ask for a medium cappuccino with only 3/4 milk

            • +4

@Bredo: An espresso (single shot) is approximately 60mg.

So a double is ~120mg, and x2 doubles would be ~240mg.

Green tea and colas are often ~30-50mg, black teas are often ~80-100mg, and coffees are often ~120mg. "Energy" drinks vary, but some of the bigger nastier ones give you ~120-150mg - the recent Prime brand are ~200mg and have garnered some controversy because they are beyond safety guidelines of some national health standards, and for a consumer product that are largely marketed to younger customers which include minors, a group in which caffeine is often not recommended at all (or little) due to developmental and social/behavioral concerns.

Some health standards recommend keeping daily caffeine intake less than 400mg. That would be three, maybe four coffees (over the day).

240mg in one go is likely to give you side-effects of caffeine intoxication - anxiety, jitters, tachycardia/palpitations, polyuria (increased urination).

Whether it does, and also whether any of these numbers mean anything to you, depends on the individual. Like most drugs that act on the CNS, you develop a tolerance. That means the dose-dependent effects of caffeine increases as you are conditioned with regular use. More than 120mg is needed for some tolerant users to achieve the hyper-attentive effects of their caffeine use, while others can get unacceptable side-effects (particularly anxiety, jitters) with as little as 50-60mg.

Absolute dosing still matters. You can only upregulate your adenosine receptors (i.e. adapt) to your dosing so much, and you are likely to close the gap between therapeutic range and overdose. Side-effects are one thing (and tacycardia and palpitations can really suck, and are potentially dangerous), but the salient problem is sleep. The half life of caffeine can vary between ~4-8 hours (depends on person), and any caffeine intake early in the day will be present in a smaller dose the following night (it would takes days to eliminate caffeine, which is why withdrawal symptoms can last for days typically, if not 1-2 weeks for some people). Habitual high dose caffeine intake will affect the quality of sleep, and that has profound short-term and long-term adverse effects on health.

Coffee's great because of beneficial health effects of anti-oxidants and nutrients, and because it taste great, and because we like the hyper-attentive effects, but it needs to be moderated. Try to stick to max 100-120mg per drink (at least 2 hours apart), preferable not more than 2-3 per day, and preferable before 2pm (if not noon).

I stick to one double shot espresso based coffee in the morning (not after noon) and switch to water there-after, keeping to very low intake of incidental caffeine-containing foods like chocolate or deserts (also for nutrition reasons). I intentional pick at least one day, sometimes two, of the week to omit the coffee (and not substitute with teas or other). If you crave that afternoon or even evening pick-me-up, you're best finding a way to reduce your caffeine dependence, and then I find moving your recommended fruit intake into the afternoon is perfect for a nutritious modest BSL spike.

              • +1

@muwu: To be fair, I think the Barista Express has a 54mm portafilter whereas the standard size for professional machines is 58mm. So a double shot from the Barista express will probs have a little less caffeine.

              • -8

@muwu: Thanks for the advice doctor

                • @Zilch: You're welcome 🤝

    • Are you using single wall double shot basket or double wall double shot basket? You should use the single wall and do 1:2 ratio in 30s. Your technique is very strange and not good at all, as by the time you prepare 2 brew, your coffee gets cold! You must be doing something wrong with how you brew the coffee. But if you like your cup extra super strong, I suggest you buy triple basket and do triple shot at once.

      • Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm using double wall double shot basket with ~20 grams of grinded coffee. And I brew 2 if those for my cup (I empty and quickly wash the basket and portafilter between brews).

Between brews, I place my cup above the machine which helps keep it warm plus I do the same while preparing the milk. I honestly don't think it gets cold

I don't know if I can get a triple shot basket for this machine though, because it only has single and double shot buttons. I know you can tweak them to pour a bit more or less water, but not sure if that would do it, need to research that

BTW I've got a bag of Enterprise blend!

        • Well here are your issues:
1* Should use single wall double basket.
2* Grind / dose / tamp to get 1:2 ratio in 30s, within the espresso gauge dial (9bar).
If follow that your 1x double shot will produce strong cappuccino.

          • @huntabargain: Sorry I've stated that wrong, I'm using single wall double shot basket!

What's the 1:2 ratio you are referring?

This machine doesn't said bar pressure in numbers, but the gauge is definitely in the middle of the "expresso range" which according to the manual is what I should be aiming for

            • +1

@Bredo: 1:2 ratio 20gm coffee beans IN, 40ml/gm coffee liquid OUT, in 30s. Yes if your gauge in middle range then its good.

              • @huntabargain: Ohh nice I'll measure the coffee output just in case! Thx!

        • I know you can tweak them to pour a bit more or less water, but not sure if that would do it, need to research that

I have the same machine, it's great.

Try having some fun with this - the single/double shot buttons are preset I believe according to volume (~30/60mL), but you can control the shot by holding (rather than pressing) the button. Hold the double shot button to begin the shot and it'll start the pre-infusion, once you're happy with that (~10sec, or a subtle colour change of the shot) then release and it will start the full infused shot, only stopping when you press the button again.

I play around with this sometimes, depending on other variables. If I have a finer grind and my infusion pressures are at the max acceptable range, sometimes I'll pull a little longer to achieve a bit more volume. And sometimes when I just want to have a big hearty latte I'll pull a greater volume so that the expresso:milk ratio doesn't blow out too much on the milky side. Either way, you're changing the taste profile of your espresso - less of an issue for milky coffs.

          • @muwu: Ohh thanks, I didn't know that trick!

  • when does this promo end?

  • Trying Stargazer this time. They've told me a couple of times at my post office when I pick my beans up that you're (airjo) a customer of theirs. Explains the extremely fast shipping!

  • Which grind to choose for nespresso refill pods?

  • İf somebody to explain, is this a simple advertisement or announcing a discount, I'll be appreciated.

    • -2

      You must be new here

      • -1

Of course no mate, did u heard before the word: ironic

    • -3

It's an advertisement which manages to circumvent certain rules so it can't be easily removed. Seems the retailer has enough of a fan following to keep it up-voted because others who don't see it as a deal can't be bothered down-voting and move on.

Personally I purchase the cheap Aldi beans and the Harris (5 bean strength) bags when they come on special for $12.50 or less, I then mix them on a 50/50 ratio. I will often buy about 10 x 1kg bags of the Harris as it only comes on a good special twice a year. I'll keep 1kg at a time in a screw top container, only grinding about 5 days of bean into another smaller air-tight container. They taste great.

If you have regular guests like myself I'd also recommend having a couple of expensive brand bags visible but in hard to reach areas, I like the Killer Coffee. They're full of Aldi beans but your guests don't need to know that. They'll all leave swearing it was the best coffee they've ever tasted.

  • +1

Just getting into espresso. I bought a Silvia Pro X a couple of months ago, and have almost exclusively been using Aldi beans — partly because I'm stuck waiting on a DF64V and hand grinding with a Kingrinder K6 for now.

I bought Sunset Blvd from Inglewood a few days ago, and have been impressed with it (but no idea on roast date and if i should let it rest!). Happy to not let using a hand grinder dictate which beans I buy.

I drink lattes in the morning, then espresso in the afternoon. Using a Pesado 19-21g high extraction basket. Any particular blends recommended? Do i just start with Sumatra? I'm pretty open to different flavour notes.

Even the Sunset Blvd has been much nicer as espresso than Aldi beans (despite some moderate to severe channelling)… so I'm keen to try other things now.

The Aldi medium and medium/dark roast have been 'okay'… milky drinks definitely masks things.. it's nowhere near as good when drinking espresso. The batch dates in my local store have been terrible too.. often around 2 or so months ago.

  • +3

Last 3 deals have only been for 1kg bags, any chance we can get deals on 500g bags?

    • Yeah it’s hard for me to get through 1kg before it’s getting a bit old. I guess I can put half of it in the freezer.

  • Really enjoyed the Sumatra blend, good value for the speedy delivery and freshness. Gave Enterprise a go and personally prefered Sumatra.

Using Aeropress Inverted brew with Nescafe frother.

  • Any recommendations of beans for pour over? Keen to hear from some people that have tried them :)

  • Bought this the first time in the last deal and it’s great coffee but I’d never pay full price.

  • I drink cappuccino most of days with occasional long black. Does anyone have any suggestions on what bean to get?
