32" Samsung Odyssey G70B 144Hz 4K UHD IPS Gaming Monitor LS32BG702EEXXY

RTings overview here:

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-g7-g7…

The Samsung G70B is an excellent 4k gaming monitor with fantastic motion handling and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for console gaming. It offers better value than other 4k options like the LG 32GQ950-B and the Sony INZONE M9, but it has worse picture quality than the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 because it lacks Mini LED backlighting.

  • Also available for $799 direct from samsung https://www.samsung.com/au/monitors/gaming/odyssey-g70b-g7-3…

And $799 at various others - scorptec, ple, pccg, etc though most of them are plus delivery.

I have been considering this one but apparently the QC is hit and miss wrt dead pixels, there are reports of black screen issues when frequency changes with VRR/adaptive sync, and some other instances such as alt tab between game and desktop, and reports that it doesn't always wake properly requiring hard reset of pc (e.g. locked to 60hz, or black screen on wake).
Dont know if it is widespread, particular hardware compatibility, or just those with problems will be noisier on the internet.

I had two different Samsungs, this one and the 1440P 27" - both had terrible firmware issues, lockups, inability to switch sources, and needed to be physically powered off several times a day.

I basically gave up on Samsung after reading this was common across the entire range, and settled on something cheap and relatively nasty (a VA panel with a lot of black ghosting) in 1440P 32" - frankly that was the right choice for my mix of gaming and production.

For anyone who uses three screens and multiple machines, the selection of 24" (1080) <> 32" (1440) <> 23" (1080) works really well if you get all same brand / all same technology as the DPI is so close as to work very nice.

At 32" , 4k just isn't necessary and basically means you're paying through the nose for a GPU to push the pixels.

      IMHO of course.

      • Yeah VA smearing is a pain the arse to look at. If it's not for high refresh rate gaming you can just be on the lookout for the 32" 4k phillips monitor that goes on sale here every month for <200 bucks, great deal, minus the VA part but can't complain too much. Don't need anything too strong to push 4k60 gaming either.

Weaker response times and motion clarity than the original and poor at 120Hz, probably better to wait for a Dell deal.

Any deals for 1440p units currently?

Apparently Australia are the dumping ground for all the failed qc monitors that get returned to samsung that circulate back to us.

Honestly with how Samsung have had their historical failures with terrible qc, even at a bargain i don’t think it’s a good idea to be buying the G series screens unless you have very very easy returns.

Everyone and their grandma seems to have needed to make 4-5 returns before settling on an acceptable G9 last generation…

It's hit and miss. Used to love samsung monitors. I got myself one and there were issues with detecting display port. It would not detect in 3 out of 5 cases. No matter how many times I would change cables or ports there were no signal. Hdmi worked fine but you want displayport for gsync.

So I returned it for an LG and never been happier

Be aware that Samsung monitors have a bad rep regarding QC and freesync/gsync. There's a few on reddit

    Here are some examples:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/vtszgi/why_so_man…

    • Yep I get the freesync flicker and doesn't auto switch inputs on my CHG90.

  • Samsung are awful
