[Resolved] Cashrewards Declined Claim as Sale Attributed to Honey Due to Browser Plugin

I have been using Cashrewards to purchase items during the end of year sale. Most of the clicks havent been registered.

Here is an email which I received from them.

*
After reviewing this transaction within the store's system, I can see that Lenovo has determined that your sale did not make on the last click from Cashrewards and another marketing channel has received a commission. Due to this, your cashback has been marked by the store as declined.

Several factors can ultimately lead to loss of attribution; the most common is the presence of adblockers, having multiple tabs open and shopping around at the time of purchase. This also includes the use of comparison sites and clicking on marketing material within the store’s website. It is also essential to place your order within 3 hours from clicking to Cashrewards.

I am not trying to double dip on different cashback sites. I would have not purchased these items if not for the cashback.

The issue has been resolved now. It turns out that my Honey plugin was the cause of the problem. Although I hadn't logged into Honey, it seems to have interfered with my purchase. I suspect the price drop popup from Honey might have caused the session to be attributed to honey.

My experience has been good with them.

Do you have a lot of browser addons by any chance?

but I do have lot of open tabs from months

You're constantly keeping tabs opens for months at a time? That's starting to make sense how it could be attributed elsewhere.

Using the CR app helps with tracking (but it’s not 100% foolproof)

Are you following the very very very specific instructions to increase the chances of success?

For tracking success, ensure you disable 3rd party plugins (AdBlock, uBlock, Pi-hole, Honey, etc), VPNs, avoid browsers such as Brave, close any additional browser tabs, and don't click away to other sites looking for codes etc after clicking from Cashrewards as tracking will be lost. Cashrewards must be your last click (not 3-Camels etc). Try our iOS/Android mobile app for great tracking results.

Notice how cashrewards state great tracking results, not guaranteed results. There are way too many variables to guarantee success.

Also not mentioned above, but I find improves results, is don't have any items in your cart when going through cashrewards.

I can't wait to see the BS they try to pull on my 25% cashback on First Choice orders that did not track.

Hi. Sounds like your Lenovo purchase did not track, so you lodged a claim and Lenovo denied the claim as last click attribution was not Cashrewards. Note that having a click in your click history does not mean it was the last click you made before purchase.

You may have interacted with Honey, Google, Finder, OzBargain, Price Hipster, Top Bargains, coupon sites, review sites, etc. prior to purchase - there’s literally too many to mention and they are all affiliates too that receive commission for sales. And merchants will only ever pay one publisher the commission for the purchase you made.

Please PM me your CR email address, your CR ticket number, and your Lenovo order ID. I’ll gladly contact Lenovo and for transparency, will let you know here who the attribution channel is. They’re extremely responsive and great at providing analytical screenshots of purchase journey. Let’s see what they have to say. Thanks :)

OP performed a post and ghost so I wouldn't be expecting a reply anytime soon TA. Original title suggested this was just a venting / blame shifting post.

    • +1

Yep will PM you. I did ask the rep for details but they weren't able to provide me any info

    • quick question @tightarse If i am on the Amazon website find something I like, close the browser, use the Cashrewards app to find the item and complete the purchase, that should be seen in the click history and caught?

I did that recently and the click history shows the click.but the cashback was declined.

What would be the best way to ensure that if I am using the App that the click is caught?

      • If Amazon cashback was declined, it's likely because you purchased from an ineligible category. Please see here.

        • Awesome. thank you for the reply and info

          Greatly appreciated

  • I had this issue a bit using PC, now only use the app on the phone to make any purchase!

Hi again @lost00 and thank you for your patience and understanding via PM. You are a true gentleman.

As discussed and for transparency to others, I provided evidence that you had the Honey plugin installed and that it was the last touch-point prior to purchase of your Lenovo laptop (your Cashrewards click was made prior to this). This resulted in failed Cashrewards tracking and therefore attribution to Honey, who then received commission for the sale (instead of Cashrewards). The fact you did not dispute the evidence and freely admitted that Honey was the culprit speaks volumes about your character - thank you.

Whilst I can't do anything regarding this purchase, I have approved your other two significant eBay cashback claims which most likely were also due to Honey (yet to hear back from eBay). The lesson here is please just use a browser that does not have Honey installed. Or better yet, use the Cashrewards app.

Anyway, just glad we got to the bottom of it and all parties are happy. Please have a wonderful evening ahead, and feel free to look me up any time. TA.

Thanks @Tightarrse, glad we got to the bottom of this.

The honey plugin is something I use to view price drops. It seems to have interfered with the purchase even though I wasn't logged into honey.

A shame, but hey life goes on. Next time, I will just use a different browser.

Next time, I will just use a different browser.

And perhaps not call a company a scam straight out. It hurts their reputation.
