If Philips want me to buy more of their Hue gear, they can start by fixing the 50 device limit of their hubs.

    • buy two hubs?

      • +2

        They'd love that wouldn't they?

      • +3

If you’re hitting the device limit, I’d bet you already have a couple of unused hubs packed away from bundle sales.

It’s more poor interaction between the two hubs, I think.

      • +2

Use a different hub - it's Zigbee, so you don't have to use a Philips hub. Not sure if other hubs have the same limitation, but…

Home Assistant SkyConnect ($69.00 from Smart Guys Australia )

        SONOFF ($42.99 from same)

A good list of options (compatible with home Assistant - verify if this is applicable for your use case i.e. with Philips Hue) is on the Home Assistant website

Another list of options is on the blakadder site - again, verify these are suitable for your use case.

    • If you've got 50+ devices, I would have expected that you'd already be on home Assistant and that you would have replaced their hub with sonoff or conbee etc?

      • Can you still use the scenes from Hue App?

        • +1

If you use the Hue hub with Home Assistant you can still use their app, if you replace the Hue Hub with a Sonoff/Conbee or other Zigbee hub, you cannot.

Personally I use a Hue Hub for my Hue devices, connected to Home Assistant, and a Sonoff for my other Zigbee devices.

Advantages: can still use all of the Hue scenes, possibly some extra reliability with Hue devices.
Disadvantages: two separate Zigbee networks, which don’t get the additional signal strength that comes with more powered devices on the one network.

    • Or add Matter support to the bulbs themselves and remove the need for a hub.

      • Buy Wiz instead (still same company though).

    • Ahah yeh..running 3 hubs and you would think now they have access to the 3 hubs on the app they would somehow be able to combine all the devices on one page.

I use smartthings to speak to the hubs but there an issue with smartthings atm and the connection isn't working anymore.

  • Does anyone have the Impress Outdoor Pedestal and are happy with it?

    • +2

I’ve got about 10. They are great but obviously expensive.

Note the starter kit is cheap at Amazon atm.

    • I also have about 10 of them, I got them dirt cheap on sale at JB Hifi like 2 years ago for around $150 a pop randomly while walking past the store. I have them all around the pool area and they have been great, although one of them malfunctioned causing all of them to not work. As a result I had to do the process of elimination from the first light all the way to the end, digging up cables etc and it turns out it was the second to last light in the chain that was the culprit. Pain in the ass but I'd still recommend them.

So yeah, 2 years strong, used regularly and they are sitting next to a pool in the QLD elements and 9/10 are still perfect. I am thinking of getting 2 more as backups in case another one dies on me at this price. I would not pay full price for them as I find them a bit expensive, but for sub $200 I'd 100% recommend.

      • Thanks! We are getting a pool installed in a few months and I've been keeping my eye out for sales on smart outfoor lights for good ambience around the pool. Sounds like it'll be hard to go past this deal. Does the extension kit just come with the light and an extension cable? it was hard to confirm on the site what the difference is apart from the 40w power supply.

I also noticed the 100w outdoor power supply has been on sale at a fair few places over the past few months, and now these (which never go on sale), I wonder if they've got new products in the works.
