Fanatec CSL DD 5Nm $335.90, 8Nm $510.80 + Delivery - Only When Purchased with Fanatec Steering Wheel + Pedals @ Fanatec

550

Seems Fanatec are continuing with their cheap "Ready2Race" bundles, But now have dramatically increased the flexibility so you don't have purchase an extra wheel separately.

The best value combination in my opinion is replacing the entry DD wheel with the McLaren Starter Wheel for open wheel/GT3 Racing for $815.7 + Delivery: https://fanatec.com/au-en/ready-to-race/csl-dd-mclaren-start…

Other combinations include:

CSL DD Ready2Race F1 Esports Bundle for PC $965.75 + Del: https://fanatec.com/au-en/ready-to-race/csl-dd-f1-esports-st…
CSL DD Ready2Race F1 Esports Premium Bundle for PC (8 Nm + Load Cell) $1299 + Del: https://fanatec.com/au-en/ready-to-race/csl-dd-f1-esports-pr…

Remember to make your own 8Nm boost kit!

    • Why on earth was this downvoted, avoiding buying an expensive first party item that can be made/had elsewhere for much less money is very OzBargain.

      • +2

Perhaps because the idea of spending this much on something to then go and try and save $100 at best with some dodgy home made/aftermarket power supply is not a smart move.

      • Perhaps ozbargainers skipped stage 4 science classes

      • +2

The ozbargain in me discovered if you add a CSL DD ready to race bundle (eg GT3 $815), the included pedals and wheel trigger this deal for an extra CSL DD.

Note - Doesnt work for playstation "DD Pro" bundles as it doesn't show wheels/pedals as separate items

Ie you can get 2x CSL DD for $336, buying only 1x pedal and 1x wheel.

I commented further below, but also here so others might see it easier.

Could go halves on the savings if anyone else in Canberra is keen.

        • A bit confused. Are you saying that you can grab 2 x CSL DD for $336 total or $336 each?

          • +1

@dins: They are $336 each, but u still have to buy 1x pedal, 1x wheel rim which is included in the bundle

My comment further below (can even do it with the $639 bundle)

            Avoid "configure your setup" button.

Just use "add to shopping cart" on these 2:

            McLaren GT3 bundle - $815
            https://fanatec.com/au-en/ready-to-race/csl-dd-mclaren-start…

            CSL DD 5nm - ($599 - $264) = $336
            https://fanatec.com/au-en/racing-wheels-direct-drive-bases/d…

            Total = $1,151.60
            Shipping = $46.65

            Delivered total = $1,198.25

            • +1

@D1Vad: Btw - i noticed that if you add the CSL Load Cell pedal to a bundle, it doesnt give the $80 discount.

So if you want CSL load cell, better off buying pedals and wheel rim individually so you get both the $80 and $264 discounts.

Ie dont buy extra CSL DD and re-selling brand new, take the $80 discount straight up.

This is why this deal can be more useful than the locked in bundle of $639 or $815. Adding that loadcell is cheaper all up now

            • @D1Vad: Cheers buddy!

              • +1

@dins: Pleasure, glad my overthinking has helped someone :)

        • I'm in Canberra and am interested.

You’re better off buying a pre-made adapter off AliExpress for about $50.

    • Dont 'make' just pick up one from aliexpress

      • Yep looks like that's a good option these days. Obviously 2 years ago these 3rd party ones weren't available yet. Still cheaper to make your own, but not worth the hassle for most people probably

        • I got mine from there not a few weeks ago. No real hassle apart from a wait of a couple of weeks, if that

  • +4

Where's the PS4/PS5 option on special? Sounds like they're dumping their least popular gear.

    • +2

Yeah I really wish they'd put this discount on to the DD GT, would be on it in a flash

  • +4

I want to buy it but then I have to spend at least double this for the whole setup with the mounting structure.

    • Yeah, but unless you already have some pedals and wheels from the CSL Elite days this is still very competitive for what you're getting

    • I mounted mine to my desk and its very sturdy, easy to take off and put to the side without storing a massive rig. a few youtube videos indicate its a good option. need a decently sturdy desk though.

    • I want to buy it but then I have to spend at least double this for the whole setup with the mounting structure.

Yeah - it's kind of a no win. I tried the desk mount with a logi wheel. Lasted less than a week before getting an NLR 2.0 stand. Which is great. But also heavy. So I ended up getting the caster wheels for the front end an a couple of legs to even up the back. Which makes it manageable, but added about $350-400 for the wheelbase.

      • Would you happen to have links for the wheels/legs you used?
Just purchased my NLR2.0 to replace my GT-Lite seat and wondering if I should go 4 wheels or 2wheels+2legs… Mainly concerned about the while stand moving even with the castors locked as I have carpet in the lounge and plastic floor protectors at my PC. Pretty sure my NLR Wheel Stand1.0 would move if I were to brake hard.

        • +1

I ended up grabbing the NLR castor set from ebay. More than I wanted, but the alternatives were either pretty nasty or even more expensive. Wait around for a $5 or $10 off deal, or better yet, share with mate. I use 4 on the desk side, as I kind of have the spares now. If you are in major centre, you should be able to do better at an office furniture supply place (my options were limited).

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114301341774

And two of these on the chair side - help hold the base in place when I or the wheel base are throwing things around (jumps, drifting). 10 minutes adjustment with spirit level gets things nice and flat. You may also want to consider a couple of extra m8 nuts to lock things in.

          https://www.bunnings.com.au/richmond-40mm-x-m8-ball-jointed-…

          • @EthicsGradient: Much appreciated mate! I noticed quite a few posts on the race sim FB group that say they just grab a set of m8 castors from bunnings and they seem to be quite happy with them. Struggling to bring myself to pay the $60 for 10 wheels when I'd use max 4 like you did - curious what about the non official alternatives you found nasty…

https://www.bunnings.com.au/move-it-50mm-5-16-threaded-hoode… < these are like 5 bucks for a pack of two. 5/16" is 7.9mm which is as close to m8 as I can find on the bunnings site when it comes to threaded castors anyways.

Will definitely get those feet. Can you still fold the whole thing up and store it the way you've set it up?

            • @peetah: @peetah The only M8s I could find were either ugly or looked flimsy. I saw the ones you linked, but wasn't prepared to deal with the 5/16-M8 mismatch (engineering background - do it properly or not at all. If you do go this path, take an M8 nut along to test the fit - too loose and you may have problems later). However, I did like the looks of the castors linked by Xenoic below - I was just too stupid to realise I could switch out the bolt (which would have been much better than buying the NLR set) - so that's probably a better solution.

I'm pretty sure if I fold my set up, the wheels and the feet would clash and prevent closing fully (I'm not going to test it as I have a heavy shifter and hand brake on one side, which makes folding an exercise in not dropping the damn thing on my feet as it tries to fall over to that side …). I normally just wheel it to one side of my desk.

That said, if you put castors on the two middle desk side positions and feet on the chair side, I think you should be able to fold normally. Not sure where the weight would sit, but probably mainly on the castors?

              • @EthicsGradient: Thanks for the insight. I might just start with 2 wheels and chuck em on the desk side. Didn't realise these came with the funny feet (the v1 pretty much just sat flat with some adhesive foam on the floor). Imagine I'll be able to get some adjustment out of the stock feet but don't think I'd mind it angled a little either.

                • @peetah: From memory the feet that come with are pretty rigid. Good luck and happy driving!

With 8Nm, you can use the NLR Wheel stand 2.0 and it worked perfectly fine for me.

      • With 8Nm, you can use the NLR Wheel stand 2.0 and it worked perfectly fine for me.

Yup - also what I ended up with, and it is excellent.

        • Also worth adding some castors to the stand which can be found at Bunnings. Worked so well in the study / gaming desk set up :)

  • +6

    What is this thing?

    • +3

Its the hub for a racing simulation wheel. The wheel comes separate unlike other entry level racing wheels.

      • nice

does it vibrate? did you buy?

        • +12

Your Poor Ass can’t afford this shit

        • It responds to the different forces the car would be experiencing. Direct drive is where the motor is directly connected to the wheel and really gives better feel than belt or gear driven wheels.

Makes racing games much more fun.

NB Vibrate only wheels are a separate thing, they suck, not even sure if you can buy them anymore.

          • @Franc-T: good to know…I would of thought it would of adjust force and vibrate too

  • +1

I'm so glad I sold my CSW2.5 when I did. Its probably worth next to nothing now.

  • +1

Wish they would do a deal on a handbreak and shifter

  • +1

If you only intend on setting up a simrig for PC, look into the wheelbases from VRS, Simagic or Simucube.

    • +4

      Moza…

    • +2

      Not sure why you're downvoted.

On the budget end Moza is definitely Fanatec's direct competitor, but going up a tier to what you've mentioned would be better for someone taking things more seriously. Not all FFB is the same.

      • -1

As I did my research between all the different companies, there was more negative chatter about the overall experience (QC/build quality, firmware/software etc) of owning a Moza relative to the others.

Up to a certain point, you pay for what you get and that was why I avoided Moza.

        • I wouldn't necessarily say it is 'negative', however I have seen people saying they can feel the difference between a Moza and VRS/Simagic/Simucube, but that is comparing budget-tier to mid-tier where really only Fanatec and Moza are players.

If I was looking at around $1k AUD or lower I would be looking at Moza. Above that, I would personally look elsewhere.

          • @phamaroo: They arent the only players, but honestly the difference betwen cheap DD and expensive DD isn't huge and only really needed if you really get right into it.

    • I can recommend Simagic! I'm actually looking to sell my Alpha Mini (just due to changing priorities), but it's fantastic if you're on PC-only.

      • What are you getting instead and why?

        • I wouldn't get anything else. I'm selling as I no longer use it as much as I used to / want to. Just too busy.

  • Is this better than the other bundle deal a while back?

    • +2

For the same wheel, it's the same deal. But the benefit here is you can swap out that entry level wheel with a better one (i.e the GT3 wheel), when in the previous deal, you could only add it on as an extra for $$$.

      • @dealoverlord

Thanks for posting mate.. i am tempted.

I also discovered if you add a CSL DD ready to race bundle (eg GT3 $815), the included pedals and wheel trigger this deal for the extra CSL DD. You may want to add to your description.

Note - Doesnt work for playstation "DD Pro" bundles as it doesn't show wheels/pedals as separate items

Ie you can get 2x CSL DD for $336, buying only 1x pedal and 1x wheel.

Anyone in Canberra wanna go halves on the savings? :P

        • Can you show me how you've managed this, I've tried everything and cant get two CSL DD in the cart.

  • Tempted by that GT3 bundle to replace my old G27. Dumb question but does it come with the Xbox buttons as standard? I see pics with and without them, are they just stickers or can you swap them around?

Also is the GT3 wheel a good all-rounder? I'd be playing F1, ACC and Dirt 2.0 on PC.

    • +4

The GT3 wheel is perfect for F1 and ACC, as for Dirt……. I'm pretty sure a round wheel is better as there is a much higher steering angle.

    • +1

The GT3 wheel will work nicely for F1 and any car with a short steering lock angle. For rallying I don't think it will work well. You can probably adapt a cheap aftermarket round wheel on a Fanatec quick release just for rallying and drifting, but I don't know if the Fanatec base works without a hub, you may need to hack it.

      • Ok cool yeah makes sense, mainly looking at getting into F1 and ACC anyway. Looks like the GT3 bundle includes the QR1 quick release adapter for free which is nice, so I could get a separate wheel for rally later if I wanted.

        • You will need another QR1/QR1 Lite for each extra wheel unless you plan to keep disassembling it, the Lite should not be overly expensive. I just wish Fanatec supported standard automotive quick releases which are a lot better, stronger and cheaper.

    • The problem with the McLaren wheel is that the shifter is pretty damn loud and heavy. You could mod it with third party magnetic shifters but YMMV.

      • +1

The difference is so much better with the mag shift with the Mclaren wheel I managed to snag one cheap it's so nice with it.

    • They come with button caps you push over the buttons for what ever you want the button to do.
They also gave a Xbox button for the lower button there.

  • Is this part of the algorithm from Tenet?

  • +1

oof i hate their friggin' website

as far i ask i can work out the cheapest setup is…

    CSL DD 5nm base $335

    CSL P1 V2 wheel $199

    CSL two pedals $130

= $640 for pc and xbox ready setup

i dont think you can do cheaper

the $200 wheel is OOS given everyone is choosing the cheapest shit and the wheels can get VERY expensive… ie. $600+ just for the wheel

also they're trying to upsell you on quick release hubs

the cheapest sony setup is $1,230

    • Btw the CSL DD is Xbox ready however the P1 V2 wheel is not. So that setup is actually not compatible with Xbox unless you have a Collective Minds Drive Hub or something. To use with an Xbox the best option for mine is to go for the McLaren bundle for $815 + postage.

      • This is why i find this so confusing, $815 is great but prefer a proper wheel !!

      • +1

The wheel is where the compatibility chip with Xbox is installed. The base is where the compatibility chip with PlayStation is installed. If you get a wheel compatible with Xbox and a base compatible with PS then the setup should work for both.

  • I'm coming from the G29 so used to jiggling, flex and play but wondering if the QR1 Wheel-Side QR Adapter is worth the add-on with the Mclaren GT3 wheel?

    • Should come free when you checkout with the bundle!

      • Sorry I meant upgrading to the aluminium over the lite. From what I can tell it's not needed, even with 8nm so going to pass

        • The metal QR isn't needed for 8nm. However, if you are at constant 8nm and you dont have it locked in 100% properly you can actually crack the QR lite and it's a horrow show if you sheer it off in a turn. The issue with the metal QR1 is it's prone to rattle with sudden oscillation. Build issues with both mounts which was supposed to be fixed with QR2 which never came.

    • +2

There's meant to be a QR2 in the works, so maybe just go with the QR1 Lite for now.

    • The QR Lite is pretty rubbish, I've had mine replaced and the entire McLaren GT3 wheel due to it failing and breaking a pin. Fanatec were very difficult to deal with and I had to threaten ACCC legislation to have it replaced.

Do yourself a favour, don't rely on the QR Lite. The reason the new QR is coming out is because of all of the early failures that some of us early adopters experienced.

  • +2

In Melbourne have a look at Simrigs he is the Australian distributer for Simagic.
Bought my base and pedals from them.

    • Yeah simrigs is fantastic. Stupidly quick shipping too

  • Can anyone comment if the price is AUD or USD? I cant find in the site or anywhere a confirmation.
