160 x 80cm Desk Top to Pair with IKEA Olov Legs

Hi guys, I've been using the Ikea Bekant desk (non sit-stand version) for the last 1 year. Given I set the desk at a lower height, the frame underneath the top keeps hitting my legs and I'm no longer willing to put up with this.

My wife has the Ikea Linnmon top paired with the Olov legs and it's a concept I like - can adjust the height of the desk and no obstructive frame at the bottom. The Linnmon top, however, is not the best and I can also tell its started to bend just a little bit.

I do like the 160 x 80cm desk dimension as its a good size for my set up (2 x 27" monitors set on a pole monitor arm).

So my question is, has anyone found a good 160 x 80cm desk top which could pair well with the Olov legs?

Thanks

hit up bunnings, choose a plank to suit your budget, ask the workshop to cut it down to exact size if required.

    • Should have added I'm not very handy with tools. Hoping to find a top in these dimensions which I can just buy ready to use.

  • The Karlby worktops are 186 x 64 cm if you can deal with something a bit narrower

  • I struggled greatly with this from bunnings over the past week.. They have 180x60 panels, and 240x90 panels. but nothing in between.

Also when I asked, they werent able to cut them due to them all being laminated. If you find a solution let me know, good luck.

    • did you specifically need it laminated?

no, but all the larger panels were laminated (at least at the bunnings I went to), so there was no other way to get the size i wanted (the 180 is fine), but the 60 is a bit shallow for my desk with two monitors on it, would have preferred about 75-80cm.

    • Yep, noticed the same with Bunnings.

The plain timber are quite large, and even if I get them cut, I'd have to sand and varnish etc - which sounds like a bit of work.

  • Can you remove the Bekant top and just screw the Olov legs onto it?

    • Yep, considered this. The Bekant top is only 18mm and I suspect with only 4 corner legs supporting it, the structure may come under some pressure.

      • How heavy is the top? That’s probably more of an issue than the thickness. Thickness will mostly determine length of screw you need (that is, you will definitely not be able to use the screws provided when you buy the legs, but you’ll be able to use shorter screws)

You can always add more legs along the back if you want, for extra support.

  • You may want to consider the IDASEN desktop… that one is 30mm
