Signing up to Taobao - Mobile Number Only?

I’m wanting to buy something from Taobao that isn’t available easily locally. I’m hoping someone more experience can assist me!

I’ve read a few guides, but they don’t seem to align with what I’m seeing on the site. I click the register link, input my mobile number, enter the verification code then… that’s it? I can’t see a way to specify username or password!

It allows me to go right to the point of paying when I attempt to make a purchase. So everything seems ok…

So is your mobile number essentially your username and password?

    I don't remember much from when I made it, but there is an actual username and password. Username is like tb123456789 or whatever. If you can't get it to work, you can always try using a proxy.

    Hi GreenPlastic, now the majority of apps in China only require mobile numbers for registration, as a method to prevent scams. Hence, every time when you log in, you enter your mobile number and request a verification code. Normally, you can modify your user name and password in your profile afterwards as an additional way to log in. So you are right, all you need is your mobile number.

      Hi there. Hoping you can assist! My order has arrived at the warehouse but it has sat there for a couple of days. I've selected direct mail as the delivery option. Do you know if I need to do anything to trigger the warehouse to send it on to me?

        Sorry, I have no idea about it. If memory serves me well, in most cases, the orders will be send to the warehouse firstly and then the warehouse will send it to you after a couple of days. But the warehouse will send international orders on scheduled dates so if you miss the previous one, you need to wait for the next. Perhaps you can talk to the customer service online or make a call to confirm.

    Can you read mandarin? I tried taobao a few years ago but i couldnt work out what how to forward my order

      I access it through Chrome and just get it to translate
