Does anyone use Mac mini M2 pro?

Just wanted to get a feedback about Mac mini M2 pro… Do you use it? Is it worth the extra money over the non pro version.

For the similar amount of money, what will be an equivalent windows PC.

Hope someone can answer my questions.

Might suggest that you give a little more details about what you want to do.

Like asking which car - a Ford Everest or a Tesla.

So much depends on what you want it for.

Yeah, you are right. I plan to use it mostly for browsing, watching YouTube etc. Software development is another thing that I do, so use it for that as well.

      • I think the non-pro will do you just fine. Unless perhaps your software dev involves graphical utilisation (media, games, etc). It's up to you whether you can justify the extra cost for some beefier specs; you may not utilise them day-to-day but it could also mean more longevity to the unit.

In my mind, the CPU difference between the Non-Pro and Pro is nice, but it's that jump from 8GB of Memory to 16GB that I reckon makes the biggest difference. You can also customise the Non-Pro up to 16GB if you think you need it.

I have the M2 Pro. It's an absolute monster for the price, but I'm using it for (often large-footprint) Video prod (Final Cut Pro) and Music prod (Logic Pro) so I'm definitely going to utilise that extra grunt.

Youtube is evil for the Apple company.
        Any chromebook will suffice.
Visual content creation and editing is where the M series shines.
Windoze designed stuff has its own strengths like gaming etc.

I'm a software dev, I maxed out on the RAM @ 32Gbs + 1 TB SSD on the m2 mini pro, and still managed to hit the RAM threshold doing non-dev related activities. Probably safer to future proof and get the max specced out device to your budget if you can. With that said, my work bought a plain mac mini m1, just before m2 was released, as I was developing flutter apps, using xcode + android emulators. It ran circles around any machine I've ever used previously. Jetbrains software suite are RAM hungry

  • Number of external monitors, non Pro is only one, at least for Macbooks.

  • My M1 vanilla would probably do you fine. You can't think of these in the same terms as Intel tiers their processors, Apple silicon was quality straight out the gate.

  • Xcode runs fine on an 8gb m1 (if that helps).
