Acer Aspire 5 15.6" R7-5700U/8GB/512GB $698, i5-1335U/16GB/512GB SSD $798 + Delivery ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Harvey Norman

530

Cheapest these two Acer laptops have ever been. Both offer good specs for price, with the 16GB i5 variant being quite a deal considering Bing Lee is selling the 8GB/256GB version for the same price on sale.

Link to the Aspire 5 Ryzen 7.

Unfortunately, it is Gerry who stocks the most variants of laptops like these, ending up in a higher chance of being on sale at Gerry's place.

  • Intel model speclist doesn't mention type-c or backlit keyboard. Strange omissions if true.

    • nothing in the pictures either. Very strange.

i'd say it doesnt have a lit kbd

but it does have a type-c 3.2 power port on the right

You are right. The pics show USB-C but don't show RJ45. Could it be a mistake in the specifications? Perhaps someone who owns this model or have checked it in store can confirm.

          • @jtrvk: acer got rid of rj45 ages ago… pre covid i think

        • Any way to confirm if its actually USB-C? It could just be a similar looking port

        • Looking at the final two pictures in your second link, there's no USB-C. That link lists only DDR4/4X RAM compatibility but HN listing mentions DDR5 RAM.

USB-C, RJ-45, DDR5 Ram may not be deal breakers for most. But I guess it's important to be aware what exactly you are (not) getting despite paying $100 extra

          no backlight keyboard
          no usb-c, only 2x usb-a
          no rj45

          edit: added the word keyboard

          • @SlightlyDusted: How about the Ryzen version?

            • +1

@silenthillrocks: that Ryzen model we first got in stock back in Dec 2021. My store doesn't have any stock so not sure sorry. There is a few kicking around the country though.

ok prices but be aware that aspire is bottom of the barrel quality

    • Acer used to be number 1 in Taiwan many years ago. They are rock bottom both in quality and after sales services. I will not buy them again. Dell, Lenovo and business grade HP and Asus are the predominant brands in the market.

I've got an aspire its 11 years old and still working fine

      • Yup I dropped my a few times - no damage. Got one with an old i3 cheap 8 years ago cus big screen but with extra ram and new SSD it just held up really well. I even got it a replacement battery.. was going to get an OLED or touchscreen lappy but didn't buy one at tax time so this is tempting, assuming the RAM isn't soldered..

  • factcheck

It does have an RJ45 port… And it has a "high-brightness" screen.

      Reality Check

The specifications are wrong, my daughter has one in her hands it definitely does not have an RJ45 port

      • hi mate is keyboard backlit

        • No, the keyboard is not backlit.

  • anyone know what the screen like? how many nits is it

    • It's Comfyview LCD is listed as IPS 300nits on another Acer model. Based on price, guessing it's 45% gamut so washed out colors when media viewing.

Acer has been good for me for years

  • Is ram upgradeable on the Ryzen?

    • +1

It does says 24GB under specification.
