ABB doesnt seem to recommend a particular app.
But i dont want a phone at home. I want a phone "everywhere" so when I go overseas, i can still make local calls in Au via wifi :)

Do your research.
Some VOIP providers wont let you use their service outside of Australia, so you might also need a VPN.
ah ffs.
it's ok. i can leave my NAS on with wireguard, or perhaps my glinet pocket router
Is it with an ISP that'll give you the SIP credentials required to use your own device? Not all do.
Assuming that it is, do you want to be able to receive calls at any time? If so, I'd suggest an app that can use push notifications, to reduce battery drain. Acrobits seems to be popular in that regard, but it's not free.
I use the free GS Wave app, but it doesn't have the push notification feature. That doesn't bother me though, as I don't use it for incoming calls (and rarely use it to make calls, for that matter).
Yes. I have all sip credentials and thingimibobs. I used to use the built in android dialer on my old phone but the new one does not have one built-in
thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out
Not all do.
Tel$tra don't
Betamax resells under 30-40 different names and prices, to suit the country you call most.
Some give you 120 days free calls to certain places.
I've never had a problem with call quality, but had 1 account hacked, so whatever you do, don't use auto top-up with PayPal.
Look up Betamax prices, heaps of websites with price list comparisons, select the brand you want to sign up and download the app. You can add your caller ID too.

The one that your VOIP provider recommends.
