Wilson BLX Volt Tennis Racquet WR085610U $89.95 (Was $219.95) + Delivery @ Jim Kidd Sports

90

You've got to be Kidding (hehe get it), 59% off!!!

Was at Jim Kidd on the weekend browsing tennis racquets.

I'm whatever the level below armature is (hit the ball and hope it goes over the net into the 'in zone'), so wont invest in better racquet until I learn more. But price wise this seems good.
PS: tell me if it is a good all round model - as bargains do tempt me!

The website states 'ONLINE ONLY - NOT AVAILABLE IN STORE', however I did see it in-store.

  • $10 delivery to Sydney
Free pick up from stores all in WA it seems

  • isnt the size for kids?

    • no, both adult sizes.
seems to be discontinued and likely to get similar prices elsewhere.

    • Appears to be a normal 27 in racquet, not a kids size

fairly average beginner / intermediate racquet from the looks. hasn't specced a head size or balance but probably 100 headsize and a couple of points head light.

reckon that or the blade 100 they have for $99 is going to suit most beginners.

Wilson online sometimes have some ridiculously cheap beginner rackets with their welcome discount codes, i picked up some graphite blade RXT 105s a couple of years ago for $45 each, perfect for having an occasional hit with the kids.

As someone who has been playing his entire life pretty much, do yourself a favour and pick up something decent second hand on FB marketplace. Lots of good options there.
These racquets are absolutely garbage and will deter you from enjoying tennis.

    • Agreed on the last point. Picked up some el cheapo Wilson from Amazon so I could have a hit with my mate, ball barely bounced off it, thought I was doing something wrong. Swapped racquets with my mate, suddenly she’s having the same problem. Definitely better off grabbing one off marketplace

      • Absolutely - if you can - replace to new strings while you at it. for 20-30$ you can basically get a new racquet.

    • Can you suggest the best Racquet under $100?

      • Might not be under 100, but you can get these at 120-130 on FB.

Yonex Vcore or Ezone 98, Wilson blades(v 6,7 or 8 if you are lucky are fantastic), Babolat pure drive or strikes are great if you like to play heavy topspin from the baseline.

Don't be worried of buying a 2nd hand good racquets, they are far superior to a "new" rubbish racquet like this.
As mentioned earlier, it'll be a good idea to restring it as well to suit your play style.

      • I just bought two more Wilson K Blade 98s from Facebook for $100 each. One came from an ex ATP player. I have been playing for decades and love the racquet so bought a few more whilst they are still around.
I would recommend buying them second hand but first go to a tennis place and hit with some - even the expensive ones. Then you can get a feel for what you like and look for them second-hand - go for the older discontinued models as they are much the same but cheaper :D Hope this helps.

        • That's a really good suggestion.
I think that Tennis only also allow you to borrow raquets for a shipping cost to try them out. Always a good idea to have a hit with something before you buy it :)

    • What should we beginners be looking for?

        see above

  • How does this compare to something like this deal? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/788418

    • same same generic entry level racquets

FYI - Can price match with your local Rebel to avoid shipping costs.
