What store catalogue says $699 for that TV

  • I would be curious how you got $609 for the tv when its advertised for $699

  • Was planning on buying this tv tomorrow morning- would be great if anyone else can confirm the scanned price referred to in this post.

  • Whats the maximum discount you can get off this if you buy more gift cards?

    • I guess around 9% off $609 = $554.19, not counting the myer one points.

They have additional promotion until tomorrow, $15 off for every $100 for Sony and Samsung TVs. I hope it's a nation wide one.

    • Thanks. Will definitely consider it if one is available at my local.

Why did you point to the NZ website? Is Myer's not the same Aussie stock with the extra M on the end?
      http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

Also, does it sit on a swivel stand?

      • Thanks, I could not find the AU website before.
And no, no swivel stand :(

  • I can confirm the deal because I bought one at Myer Bourke street, Melbourne Cbd, at the same price. I cannot understand why it came out $609 price either. The price tag was 699, normal price is 799. I was prepared to ask for pricematch with cheapbargains ($631), but the father's day discount (15% off normal price for Sony and Samsung TVs) somehow made it $609. I thought mine was pricing error, so I did not post. It is the NZ model without the M at the end, swivel base. Very happy with the purchase. There were 3 in stock on Tuesday night, so it might have sold out in that store by now.

    • That's interesting, NZ model?

The Aussie site seemed to imply no swivel base when I compared the 32" models. Will try a couple of stores in the morning to see if they have stock.

    • You're so lucky! Does the NZ model includes the wireless dongle as well?

  • Thanks op for the post managed to pick one up today :)

  • Thanks, OP. Got one today, $600 + $60 bonus so $51 credit left. If the stand would swivel that would've been almost perfect!

    • Your welcome. Yeah I also need the swivel badly. Any idea of how to convert the stand?

      • It's not interchangeable with another similar sized Samsung model (eg UA32ES6200M) apparently, but this unit is only 6.7kg with the stand so not heavy at all. I'd get a pack of those stick-on felt "feet/pads" that's felt and larger than a 50 cent piece and stick a few underneath to make it easier to move. The base of the stand is like a crate, so I will probably need to backfill it with something so those feet/pads have something (more) to stick on.

Otherwise, only other solution is to mount it from the back using a suitable VESA mount or stand.

  • To those who have bought it, did it come with the wireless dongle?

    Cheers

    • It's actually printed on the box that it's included, not a sticker as an afterthought. Looks like a USB flash drive than a short cable with dongle. I've seen this advertised on Samsung's website but not sure which version it is.

    • Just more on that wireless adaptor, it's the one with an X at the end. Works pretty well, except it's so long it sticks out the side of the TV! If it annoys me too much, will need a short extension cord.

  • Without turning this into a full blown review, I have the following observations compared to my older Samsung R8 about three years old thereabouts.

This is the "M" model. It's in the actual Model number, confusingly different from the Type number.

This S5500 is tiny! Barely much around the frame, pretty thin and light at just over 6kg.

You lose some features though. No swivel base, but as it's so light, I'd stick those felt discs under the stand.

It's also shorter than the older unit.

It loses a few inputs. Didn't really pay attention but the composite and component video connections are shared. Will need to find an RCA port splitter for video, and another for audio.

The wireless adaptor takes up one USB port. Not sure if the other one supports a hub.

So far, pretty pleased for what it is. Thanks again, OP!

  • For those that have bought this tv, does your picture in picture work?

    • Do you mean showing different channels at the same time? Is it one of the features of ES5500?

    • I couldn't select it, so not sure. As the TV only has one tuner built-in, any PIP would need a second input source one would think. I'll have a play to see if it works with my computer input as a second source.

Could be interesting if it could show say ABC HD and ABC 22 with the single tuner, but I doubt it.

    • I could do PIP when I was using HDMI with my computer and watch digital TV in a smaller "window", buti couldn't figure out if I could swap them.
