Insurance Claim - Issues after Repair

I went to the insurance-approved mechanic to fix the body damage on my car for an insurance claim not at fault, but despite their efforts, I still hear a clicking noise whenever I brake. I started hearing these clicks only after the accident.

The mechanic advised me to take the car to a private mechanic for further assessment. If they find that the issue isn't related to the brakes, I need to obtain a written report that this was caused from the accident from them and return it to the insurance-approved mechanic. I spoke to a mechanic and he said it could be multiple things including the vehicle control arm, etc. However, I'm a bit puzzled because this means I'll have to pay extra for the assessment. In this situation, I feel quite unsure about what to do.

I'm hoping someone might have some insights or guidance on what steps to take in this situation, and if anyone else has experienced a similar issue before. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried contacting your insurance? You should not be out of pocket if it was related.

  • My workmate was in a similar situation where a replaced headlight/indicator assembly that was part of a custom bull-bar- and although was replaced and was flashing super rapidly after being replaced - although the repair place had their own on-site auto electrician (apparently) - they refused to get their guy to check it over and said to get a 3rd party.

My workmate got this arranged at their own cost and provided a report to the insurance people who took it back in shop, turns out it was fixed with a 3c resistor. My workmate was out of pocket for the 3rd party inspection and report however.

I'd follow up with the original insurance provider and say my car hasn't been returned to its original condition.

Also why i'd hold off on signing the agreement that you're happy that all works have been carried out satisfactorily.

Called your insurance company? Mechanics don't do body work, you went to a panel beater

    • It was the insurance third party assessment centre

      • I don't know what that means. Have you called your insurer?

  • Throw it back into the lap of the repairer and let him sort it out with the insurance company.

    • yeah when I threw it back to the repairer at the assessment centre they told me to go check a mechanic

      • In that case, bottom line is that your "contract" is with the insurer - not the repairer. Hence the insurer is responsible to make good the damage. Give it another shot and then say you will take the matter the the insurance industry ombudsman.

There should be warranty on the repair. So take it back and say not fixed. Complain to insurer their repairer wont fix it.

  • Yes complain to the insurer. If you’re not getting anywhere with the insurer, you can make a complaint with AFCA.
