Yes I know… it's another headphone deal…

Amazon Spain has a sale on Sennheiser PXC 250 II headphones.. They are noise cancelling headphones, but overall gets pretty good reviews.

Cheapest Price in Australia was from when Dick Smith had 40% off their head phones. RRP in Australia is $299. Cheapest price on shopbot for a new retail one is around $189 + Delivery so at $129 delivered, I thought that's a pretty good deal.

Recently bought those Pioneers in-ear Noise Cancelling and tried them on a flight. Never knew Noise Cancelling can make a flight so much more comfortable. Now I understand why those that have tried a nice pair of NC headphones say its a must on flights.

*updated - shipping just got 2 euros cheaper.

    God Australia is a rip-off, isn't it?

    • It's the cost of doing business in Australia that's expensive. I don't think businesses are out there to rip us off. Unfortunately it's unsustainable since buying overseas is now readily available.

Try to find a bargain on "PX200" or their modern day equivalent, without noise cancel. To me PX200's reflect the best low cost sound from Sennheiser. IMe, a Clean, balanced, crisp audio with controlled & punchy base.

I don't know how Head-Fi.org rate them 7/10 while awarding Superlux pair 8/10 (which I unfortunately also bought) , but have enjoyed mine for years … Px200 top Koss Porta pros (easily), they beat HD201, and I even prefer them above my very costly, high resolution, HD595- which are considered audiophile.

I bought second hand px200 for $20 few months back. Best headphones in terms of balance between sound quality and portability i reckon :)

i have both px200 (mk1 AND mk2) and PXC250s, the 250's are great for air travel, but the 200s are the winner if you don't fly much. I hate the inline volume control of the px200mk2's though.

I have a pair and the NC feature is fair better than my philips and cheap Sonys but not on par with my Bose. Sound quality is great but not as punchy as my HD25s but better than a lot of lightweight Models, crisp and clean. At this price a brilliant but and a must on a long flight.

  • Are there any other noise cancelling headphones you would buy in preference to these (that aren't in a huge price bracket difference)
DH has mentioned he'd like some and our anniversary is coming up so these seem like a great option - but I know NOTHING about this area.
    Thanks for any ideas

    • for this price, nothing close

    • I think these are probably the best NC headphones you can get for $130 bucks. Any thing that betters them costs around twice as much.

Thanks for posting this. I have just started catching the train from Ballarat to Melbourne and these will be perfect for the trip. I have just ordered one. Cheers

I'll +1 on sonicentropy's comments. Great value for money and sound good considering their size. The Bose noise cancelling is far superior but you do get what you pay for. They get a little tight after 4-5 hours flying but not uncomfortable.
I certainly don't regret my purchase about 12 months ago :-)

Saxlady: The cheaper Sony Phillips are not much chop at all so I would consider these a great starting point for noise cancelling.

  • Thanks OP and others for your comments - I've ordered one, fingers crossed he likes it :)

  • Yep, thanks OP - needed some NC headphones to combat the open plan office rhubarb-rhubarb (a colleague uses a pair of 150s for NC without music playing, and they work a treat)
