Cost of Drain Clean Using High Pressure Jet Blaster

Hi,

I've been asking some plumbers for quotes to try clear drains as we have a smell in the bathroom in the house we recently bought as it's about 80 yrs old. The water in the shower drain seems to get stuck

The first plumber has come back with below

To cut in Inspection opening on 100mm pvc line running along external wall outside of main bathroom. To run high pressure jet blaster down main sewer line and all external overflow gullies.

Following this we will run the cctv camera to from the inspection opening down to the main located in
the back right hand corner. If main is buried we will advise client on next steps.

To pull off toilet in main bathroom and ensure rubber seal between toilet and sewer pipe is
functional. If not we will replace. Re install toilet and silicone back to the floor.

$975 Inc GST

Does this feel about right? It's a single-story house in Sydney.

My parents had this done ~18 months ago - $250 kesh money

  • Imo yeah seems reasonable

Plus not like it’s a diy job either..

      DIY sometimes
bought one of these. first was DOA, replacement works a charm
lucky I got a whole second kit as the replacement because 12m was about 30cm too short for my needs
dealing with tree roots in septic entry plus a root that looked about 5cm thick that goes perpendicular straight across pipe (had plumbers out when struggled to flush etc, they got water jet stuck and had to leave it overnight. lucky they put the camera down the next day as it actually dislodged the stuck water jet head and I got to see the tree root)

and it was $440 bill from plumbers - 2 hours first day, revisit for an hour or so
      .

      • Yeah but you got an idea of what to do though - when I think DIY - it has to be so fool proof that it can’t be stuffed up and requires literally no prior knowledge on the area/topic

Why not try something simple first… for slow-moving water in the shower, I would think the first thing that happened is a hair clog…

Get either of these from Woolworths or Coles, don't be shy and tip the whole thing down, then wait overnight…

  • Sounds cheap to me!
You can stick down a special hose with 3 45 degree backwards shooting jets attached to your pressure washer.
It takes time and skill and may even get the plumbers union to harass you.
    Cheaper to get a professional!

  • Right on the money. We've had a number of plumbers out for jetting of all sorts of pipes in our place and they have all come in between $750-$1,100 depending on how long they are there. But if you use a simple website like Hipages, you'll get 3 quotes within a couple of days so you can compare and appoint as you wish.

The other thing to try is a product called Mo Flo. If you can get your hands on it. It's 99% sulfuric acid so be careful, but it works a treat for us!

    Description:

Moflo is the best instant drain unblocker on the market. Sulfuric acid-based drain opener. Designed to quickly dissolve all organic obstructions such as cloth, paper, rags, grease, hair, paper, sanitary napkins, styrofoam, sludge, soap, and coffee grounds. Use in floor drains, sink drains, tub drains, shower drains, and other drains prone to clogging. Moflo has an instrument for approval for use in food processing establishments for use as a drain cleaner.

  • I can recommend Drain Addict (based in NSW) even though I've never used him……some of his YouTube visitors are great - https://m.youtube.com/@DrainAddict

If you use acidic or other drain ckeaning chemicals and still need to call in the plumber. Let them know that chemical is still down there.

wait to see the bill first
