What's next, a gaming GPU bracket?

    Oh, wait…

Protects online gaming from unexpected power failures
    WOW

As long as your modem is on a UPS too.

      • And you're on FTTP.

        • Also FTTC, if you put the NTD on the UPS as well!

Was pleasantly surprised when it worked; I was only using the UPS as a glorified surge protector.

        • Or FTTN

the nodes have batteries in them too, no idea how long they last though

      And..

      The servers ain't down
Your mummy hasn't switched off the internets
      The telcos ain't doing maintenance
      Etc. Etc.

How do people not have brain aneurysms from all this funky RGB?

      • How do people not have brain aneurysms from all this funky RGB?

Are you talking from personal experience?

        • No. But I had issues with bright light for a time, flashes. Stopped playing hyrule warriors series for that reason. Too many late nights most likely.

I do hate unnecessary lighting, it can be distracting, especially in your peripheral vision, it's also not good for your eyes either. Not a fan of blue led dots on 4k players, ovens, appliances, etc. I get showing off pretty PC builds but unless it's on display it's just annoying.

For all the illiterate voters who negged me..

Protects online gaming from unexpected power failures

Read it and comprehend. You can only protect your side of the connection. So battery backup for nbn/5g/starlink modem and your pc/laptop/device. If the problem is at the exchange, there's nbn/etc maintenance schedule or not, or the gaming server your connecting to crashes or goes offline no ups is gonna save you. And these devices protect within stated surge ratings, no protection against lightning damage lol

I'm not dissing these UPSs, but the quoted text should show instead

Keeps your electronics up and running for longer during unexpected power failures

Its actually… making me want to buy one. My current UPS doesnt have enough ports to support all the monitors, although I guess its a good way to let me know my power is out when one of the monitors suddenly die.

    But $781 RRP? https://powershield.com.au/product/gladiator-gaming-ups/

E: Ended up getting one. Under $300 is a tax write-off, and I couldnt find similar specced ones for anywhere near that price currently, although historically it is a similar price. Shipping kinda sucked tho, $29 to Sydney.

    • +3

$5 powerboard from Bunnings would do the trick.

      • +2

It depends. I would imagine the number of ports is a sort of indicator of the amount of power load it can sustain for any reasonable amount of time.

        • -3

So plug your PC and monitor into their own ports, and all the other junk into a powerboard.

A power outage is God’s way of saying you need a break.

Not if you have an array of hdds 😥😥😓😓

      • -1

You might consider getting a NAS

        • Yeah I mean an array of hdds inside my nas 😂😂

          • +4

@Leho: I read this as "an array of hdds inside my a**"

Tho only nbn connection works during blackout is FTTH

    • +1

      Mobile hotspot yo!

    • 5G home internet router plugged into UPS? Can consider

    • +2

The FTTN cabinet in the next street is 1/2 full of batteries and has a decent run time on them. I’ve had my UPS powering the modem, POE switch & 2 access points to keep us online for over an hour after the power has gone out. My main server is configured to shutdown after 5 minutes.
The PowerShield UPS that I have is nothing fancy, but it works well and is recognised by NUT.

    • +5

Shouldn't FTTC also work if you also have the modem on a UPS?

      • Router and NTD both on UPS, definitely does work.

    • And 4G LTE/5G modem which works with internal battery. Of course for those who has spare SIM card with plenty of data. I am on ALDI mobile family plan and data rollover accumulated >2TB. I am pretty much covered for a year or 2 without home internet :)

    • ive got fttn and my internet can work in a blackout

  • I was looking at get one of these, but went with the PFC Sinewave model instead.

Got it hooked up to my TV and consoles so actually preferred not to have RGB lights shooting me in the face.

    • What size did you go with? And how many dollary-doos?

      • 1500VA, from memory I paid around $370 over a year ago, ($510 RRP), so it is more expensive, but potentially a better UPS. I've seen these as low as $330 though so it pays to hunt around or wait for a sale.

  • $30 shipping. :(

    • batteries are heavy… 1500VA is not small

  • +2

RGB must provide better performance lol

    • +1

lol - sure, given its sole job is to provide backup power for as long as possible… even if minor, using more power to run itself/rgb lighting cannot result in better performance (unless they turn off when on battery)!

Wait, I forgot its other job being to look cool whilst doing it :)

  • If i have customised pc with 750w power supply, is that mean i need 750w + UPS?

    • No, the PC wouldn't be using anywhere near what the PSU can supply, depends what components you have in it though. You have to add up the wattage of everything you'll have connected to the UPS as that will affect how long it can run on batteries. There are online calculators to help you.

UPS's are designed to allow you to safely shutdown your PC (or other equipment) in the event of an outage plus provide other power protection like brown outs and surges. Not to run the equipment for any great length of time.

    • You need to include power of monitor, Modem, Router etc that are connected as well. Apart from what your system actually consumes at peak wattage.

      • All of the items you listed are quite low power usage, 60W for monitors and 20W for other devices is quite safe and likely less when idling.

        • Correct. But none the less they all add up and consume power.

  • price for the specs is on point thanks OP.

  • Shipping from WA to Melb for $154.11. :-(

    • Thats express shipping. Standard is about $40.11 for me and I am in regional Vic.

    • They seem to have run out of stock in the VIC warehouse, but if you can find C&C in store stock it’ll be much cheaper.

  • Do these things have surge protection? Or do you plug these into a power board first?

    • They have surge protection generally

    • +1

A UPS will provide way better protection than a power board, as it will protect you from brown-outs too when the incoming power to the house is not uniform/wrong the UPS will step up/down the irregularity in it (trimming) so your devices continue to receive a uniform supply of power.

  • You get an extra 32 minutes for XBX?
    Doesn't seem too long ?

    • 2 small 9AH batteries, what more can you expect?

      • -2

For $200 was expecting 1 hour.

  • +3

RGB. Must be a Really Good Bargain.

    • Ya, you dont need extra lights when the powers gone.

  • +1

Out of stock but still taking orders

    • The site is weird. It's saying in stock in WA warehouse and Wangara, and quotes shipping from WA, but in the cart, it's out of stock and ETA is the same as ETA as the Vic warehouse, so no idea where are these are shipping from.

      • -5

China, list on website and everything directly shipped from China just some sellers made you think they are from somewhere in Australia

        • PLE don't ship from China, they use the same local distys as everyone else.

  • +1

Connect it to the modem, router and TV. That way you can watch movies while the street is out. Turn up the volume to make the neighbors jelous.

  • +1

I have one of these and right out of the box I wasn't able to cycle through the menu, specifically changing to different pieces of data (ie. Runtime, Voltage, Current Draw, etc.). I thought it was me doing something wrong but if you press the button really, really hard you can get it to flip through the menus so clearly it's mechanically defective. Their QC could be better!

I do like the removable screen on this as it's behind my desk and a set of drawers and when the power goes out you just pop the thing off and can leave monitor it remotely.

Mine is connected to the NTD and the router and will comfortably run both for just over a day (screen just says 180 minutes though for most of that, seems to be a limit).

    • +1

That's a hard pass for me. If the QC is questionable on a button what's to say the internals are any good. I'm not plugging in a few thousand dollars of my best gear to find out if it's fine. Stuff that.

  • Is this a power bank with RGB?

    • +1

      Powerbank for a computer/game console

  • I got free shipping to melb (ordered 2, dunno if that made a difference).

  • Expired $289 now

  • arrived today - works a treat! pity you cant turn off the rgb. Its in the garage who cares i guess.

    • +1

there is a setting in the menu to turn off the rbg - i have mine off now and just arrived today also

  • +1

Mine arrived faulty, no response from the display at all, spewing!

  • Mine arrived today. I turned it on and battery is charging. The fan is constantly on and it is loud. It’s definitely on AC mode. Is that normal? My previous UPS fan only come on when it loses AC power and switch to battery mode.

    • I've had mine for a couple of days.

It seemed to have been almost fully charged when it arrived, but the fans eventually stopped.

It's a shame the manual is so minimal.

Does the flashing of the last bar on the charge level ever stop blinking? Mine's been sitting on the last bar blinking for almost 24 hours.

      • +1

Agree it seems to only loud fan on when fast changing at the start, then turns off when charging slows. My last bar keeps blinking though despite utility software showing 100% charge now on windows but it doesn't bother me much.

        • Mine was almost empty. Fans turned off after 6 hours. But I don’t have the blinking last bar like yours

          • @jaylee88: Thanks is this even when the screen is plugged in and charging?

  • my battery in the lcd thing that detaches seems dead? i removed the plastic thing… sadface
