Decent Laptop for Editing Insta360 Video

Hi everyone,'

I recently bought an Insta360 X3 video camera and was planning to edit using their software on my 10 year old HP Spectre i7 laptop….

The result, Not possible….. Its obviously way too slow, though it can handle MP4 no issues.

So looking for a new Laptop with an i7 or i9, 16G Ram, IPS touch screen, fast graphics card and 500G to 1T SSD.

But of course cheap as possible. Suggestions regard options….What AMD chip is the rough equivalent to a high end i7 or i9 these days?

I did buy a HP circa 2021 i7 Pavillion a while ago and it will almost do it with a few freezes now and then. But the screen sucks.

HP 15S-FQ4006 Laptop: 15.6-Inch FHD, i7-1195G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD…..

Not sure if the 11 gen i7 is the trouble or it lacks graphics speed or RAM?

Comments

  • im using a Toshiba z20c for that
    its slow
but the ui is usable and the exporting can take all night idc

    • Weird isnt it. The files from the Insta360 for some reason take longer to upload than the ones out of the Minipro3…Exporting is glacially slow.

      • upload where?

afaik you need a comptuer with a GPU that contains
        a) high clock speed
        b) more execution units.

but really, all you need is patience and enough batteries in your caravan

        • getting them off the SD card into the PC

          • @graham johnson: Most likely you have one card that's slower than the other for "read". Unless the files are a lot bigger coming off the insta vs the minipro3. Swap the mini sd cards around and see if it's the same.

  • But the screen sucks

Plug it into an external screen?

    • The laptop isnt fast enough anyway. The editing screen is still jerky. Plus we are travelling in a caravan. No room for extra weight…

      • 27in Dell 4k screen weighs 4kg lol.

        • It will still be jerky and basically unusable an external screen….

  • MacBook air

    • A what? LOL……. I cant stand using Apple products

      • +1

I use windows at work, android personal, MacBook for video and laptop, iPad and also have an android tablet. The MacBook is light, good battery and a processor
that's probably going to outlast anything you need. if you haven't touched apple for many years, maybe now is the time to try again. They're the world's most valuable company for a reason.

    • this is horrible advice, no dGPU.

      • M2 MacBook air has the media engine

  • I am just trying to figure out whether the hold up on these pc's is graphics processing or CPU…. There are a lot of options some close to $1000 with GPU's but 10th gen processors. But I am not sure if the CPU is the bottle neck for editing video.
