I have this and its solid, but its tight fit on the inside if you're also using full size GPU.

    • I run a 3060 in mine. Two fan model. Yes very tight if you go bigger, some dont fit

Doesn't stop this from working but Intel has shit canned NUC's and won't be doing them anymore.

hopefully other manufacturers keep it up. NUC is a great little system when you dont need a full blown desktop or laptop.

I've had quite a few Intel NUCs over the last decade. It's a bit sad to see them go.
I thought they were brilliant for the small form factor size and intended use case scenario.
I do hope the third party AIBs keep making them.

      • There's already a bunch of USFF manufacturers in this space so I think Intel felt pretty confident they didn't need to do it themselves anymore.

    • Intel has shit canned NUC

      Bummer. :(

  • What's the deal? Google shows several places that have it cheaper.

  • not bad if you want the intel version
But if pure hardware comparison, its not a deal vs the BPC kraken with the following specs on sale:

    upgrade to 12900 CPU
    memory
    SSD
    for $130 cheaper

Intel likely has better psu, build quality, looks (subjectively), warranty and maybe better cooling though

    • I’m going to assume the Kraken is some big ugly tower?

Note i wouldnt recommend putting a 12900 into it due to heat/thermals, the 12400 at $899 makes more sense for most applications

    • **Just note it doesn't come with a windows license. Which is probably your $130 variance

      • +1

Get licence online for $20 or leave it unactivated

  • I have this and it's a bloody fantastic machine, paid over 2k for it before the GPU I bought separately and it's worth it even at that price - this is a genuine steal

    • I've been interested in gaming NUCs for the footprint but have been worried about thermal throttling / fan noise - how've you found it?

Too little too late Intel. Getting an Extreme NUC at release of each generation had been a nightmare: huge Australian tax, limited availability of models (no i5 or i7 models released here AFAIK) & let alone any stock for months and months after release. By the time there was any stock a generation had already passed.

There was a great write up that stated correctly it was very much the retail & logistics channel that killed Intel NUC and I’d have to agree. All it would have taken is more retailers offering the full SKUs, reasonable not outrageous prices and make them pre-orders.

Instead it seems Intel forced folks to carry stock and thus they limited range and pushed price to ridiculous levels because of the lack of interest.

  • It's a cool system, but I'm struggling to see the value here since you can get a similar custom itx build for less money. That gives you newer components, more flexibility in individual part selection, and the option to upgrade down the line - whereas the nuc is limited due to its proprietary (and now axed) mainboard design.

    • i5 vs i7?

The 13600kf is the faster part
