Good Value Dash Cam

Can anyone recommend a reasonable 4K front and 2K/1080p rear dash cam?
I have a Viofo A129 Pro Duo in one of my cars that I picked up for ~$285 in the 2021 Prime Day sale, the prices of Viofo appear to have gone north and their stock levels south.

Amazon is filled with all these random brands that I've never heard of and I don't know if they're junk or not. I can't really trust the Amazon reviews because people get paid to write them.

Looking to spend <$300 but after something reasonable. Can anyone recommend anything?

Viofo A229 duo is good. currently on sale for $302

    • Feels pretty rough paying more for a 2K cam than I did for the A129 Pro Duo though.

I had a look at Dashcamtalk but am still a bit torn about what to buy. Some suggest even buying two separate cams for front and rear. I'm not totally against that, just gotta sus out rear power.

      • But the rear camera is 2K as well and it's much smaller than the chunky a129 rear camera. and it's just a more modern setup overall. Id rather have 2x 2K cameras over 1x 4k camera and 1x 1080p camera. as 4k also really drains storage too

    • The cheapest I can find this is now $355 on the Viofo website. I can't believe they sold out of stock on Amazon within hours. I'll check my history and see if I can find the link, just in case it's still possible to order. I opened it several times yesterday.

  • I bought the a119 v3 from Amazon for $125 (front only)

  • Are you 100% sold on the 4k for the front? A decent full HD front and back would probably do the job- I have a Navman mivue (no rear cam though, had other plans that didn't work out). Admittedly only had it in for a week, but reviewed some of the footage and it is pretty good, you can read most number plates and it has a good FOV. It does struggle a little with plates at night when your lights are right on them (the new very reflective plates anyway).

    • Yeah, after being happy with the A129 Pro Duo I don't really wanna go less than 4K for the front if I can avoid it. 2K/2K like in the case of the A229 I could live with, but tbh it should be cheaper than it is.

  • Just buy two of these. One for the rear and one for the front. 2K for both should be sufficient………

    • wouldn't it be really chunky and big for the rear window?

      • It'll be going into a Ford Mondeo station wagon, so there's plenty of window realestate. I'm just not sure how I'd power it.

Is it easy enough to tap into rear wiper or other light power?

There is no rear 12v? My Ute has one and my wife's SUV also.

Alternatively, just run a 12v extension from front to back with a 12v splitter. You could get these cheaper, but just a quick example from Repco. I've done that before in my VE Commodore that had nothing in the rear.
