    • What's the original price for the hammer drill?

      • I think it was $129. That is what is showing on Ryobi's site.

      Wow. I bought this jigsaw about two weeks ago for $139. I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet. I’m going to return it now and pick up one of the cheap ones.

      I also have this hammer drill and the impact driver from the original deal but I’ve had both of them for years. For about $70, they’re a bargain.

    • Thanks. I got one of those hammer drills. Now I can finally tackle some stuff in the laundry. (People in 50s/60s brick houses will know what I'm on about.)

    Would this Impact Driver be strong enough to do occasional wheel-nut removal?

    • +3

      The naming of these things is pretty confusing with “impact”, “driver”, “hammer” thrown all over the place and overlapping.

      This one is for fast and high repetition screwing such as putting down a roof or deck.

      Nup…. you need the next one up. I own both… and they've got a much higher torque one for wheel nut removal. Plus it's got a really small connector on it. You want the larger sized one that take the wheel nut lug straight on it.

      The latest variant is this, with 450Nm of torque. It's an "Impact Wrench"…. not a driver. https://www.ryobi.com.au/products/details/18v-hp-brushless-4…

    • +2

      Would likely do the job just fine but proper tool for that would be an impact wrench

      • +3

        180Nm of torque won't undo a wheel nut, and you'll just wear out the tool trying.

        There is a huge difference between how hard the impact wrench hits. It sounds like a proper garage air tool or pit crew. The impact driver does not.

        • If your wheel nuts are torqued over 110nm they’re too tight

          • +2

            @ripoffmerchant: Tell that to the last guy that did them up on a wheel rotation or puncture repair. What they should be, and what they normally are (especially on a set of nuts not touched for years) are completely different things. They aren't giving you 450Nm on the impact wrench for no reason. I own both, no way the driver is undoing a typical wheel nut.

            • @UFO: They are giving you 450Nm for things like crank pulleys and axle nuts, not lug nuts. Honestly I don’t think you’ll find many automotive repair people over torquing lug nuts these days it’s very basic and common training.

              • +1

                @ripoffmerchant: You aren't undoing most crank pulleys with 450nm. You'll probably get 90% of lug nuts undone with 450nm and next to none with 180nm. My impact driver puts out around 205nm of torque and has never been able to undo any lugs that would have been torqued to 120nm. Maybe it would get some loose if I felt like listening to it rattle on each for like 15 seconds, but not worth it.

                A coworker had a little M12 impact with around the same torque as the Ryobi impact wrench and it can undo most lug nuts but takes a lot longer than a mid torque or high torque gun and isn't really ideal for the job.

                Just because you torqued it to 110 doesn't mean that is the torque needed to undo it. You have to factor in corrosion, as well as the fact that the maximum advertised torque would be after like half a minute of rattling with no extensions.

          • @ripoffmerchant: This is incorrect. Please try again.

        • @ripoffmerchant: they should be doing it up by hand, but due to time pressure they're most likely going to be ugga-dugga-ing it on with an air tool.

  • Far out, i paid $100 second hand for this recently. That's a crazy deal

  • Is this a special or normal price?

    • Google shows it was $108 normally

    Reduced because new brushless model has come out.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-compact-brushle…

    • Is this brushless as well? I can’t seem to figure out

      • +1

        colour scheme and "HP Brushless" designations. OP's one is not HP or brushless… but still a very good unit.

    • Has nothing to do with brushless models. Ryobi for last 6 years always have brushless and non brushless models selling concurrently.

      • +1

        I'm telling you for a fact that this HP Brushless impact driver is relatively new to the line up. I own a bazillion of the Ryobi One skins and am very familiar with them.

        They first came out with stock green, and have slowly released HP Brushless versions of each skin.

        • And I'm telling that ryobi been selling brushless model for ages now.

          These may be new brushless models but has no bearing on non brushless ryobi which they will continue to sell.

          • @ttt888: I realise they sell both types concurrently. I'm just saying that HP Brushless variants are typically released well after the original 'non-brushless'… and are higher specced/improved from the prior model. The fact they still sell the original units at a lower price point doesn't change which one is better or newer. That's all I'm saying. All I said is there is newer/better version available (for more cash).

      The 2-piece HP kit has also dropped massively. https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-compa…

      • Not available in NSW? :(

  • Is this model better than my Ozito brushless impact driver? (I'm in both Ozito and Ryobi ecosystems)

    • Depends, what’s the torque on the Ozito?

    • nup. see above.

  • I love this thing.

  • +3

    If anyone was waiting on the brushless HP ones, the price for the brushless kit has also dropped. https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-compa… keep what you need, sell the rest.

    • I just grabbed these and came back to post the same thing.

    • That's REALLY good value! Two HP skins, two of the newer style batteries 4Ah battery packs, and a charger for $200!!
      That should be a posted deal on its own! (edited, I see you've done just that!)

    • Can we interchange newer style and older style batteries and also chargers?

  • Haha Ryobi display stands installed with Milwaukee tools.
    Ryobi = home light use
    AEG = handyman
    Milwaukee = industrial
