These 'new' specs and BSD are often hit and miss; should be fine for OPNsense, or OpenWRT.
This runs (i believe) the Realtek network chip (instead of the intel chip) and doesn't work with PFSense ootb (unless you want to find your own drivers).
For OPNSense, it will work, but there have been people that complain about reliability problems.
I use Realtek for client instead of the router.. so maybe stay away for router usage.
based on this review here: https://www.cnx-software.com/2023/05/16/beelink-eq12-review-…
The 2.5 gigabit Ethernet ports use Intel I225-V network interface controllers:
too bad they never list the network controller in the spec page
how do i use this an nbn router?
Install a router OS, like OPNSense, then configure it to match your old routers login details.
Does anyone know the home theatre capabilities on these. Could it passthrough most codecs?
Chromecast and Plex is way cheaper
The only device I've found that actually supports my needs is a Nvidia Shield Pro unfortunately. Hoping a mini PC can support the same.
I'd hope a mini PC with 16GB DDR5 ram and 500GB SSD is a lot more "flexible" than a dedicated Nvidia Shield Pro device.
@Crownie: You'd be surprised the limitations of PCs to play good quality cinema. Codec support comes down to $$ (licensing).
please share the experience for potential shield owners
Good to run as a file server (add your hdd/sdd onto it)
I paid $549 for the EQ12 Pro last week :'(
Performance is good for low-mid indie games, I haven't tried anything intense on it. Bought it to use as a daily computer as I was concerned with energy usage on my gaming rig when I'm only ever playing Doom (1993) or non-demanding games.
DDR5 is a nice touch with a single stick of Crucial branded memory (it's single channel only), the M.2 SSD is as generic as they come with no branding or information reported other than "SSD", I'm using it but don't feel confident so not storing anything I can't afford to lose on it.
Note if you want to use the 2.5" SATA bay it will block the fan. Some people shuck the SATA SSD and just plug the board in, YMMV.
can you please confirm the network chip in your unit? is it Realtek or Intel?
Sure they're Intel I225's, I don't know about support for OPNsense etc. as I just kept the Windows it shipped with
cheers!
Any good for PFSense?
