Yes it can. Its a pretty good device…
can you explain or direct us to instructions on how to do this ?
download serviio media server (free) and the rest is pretty simple
just enter your wifi details in the wdtv
you'll need to show serviio which folders to monitor and thats it
will play basically anything you throw at it.
I have the old wdtv without built in wifi so i had to buy a wifi usb.
My panasonic plasma has the same ability to play movies etc but the wdtv is far superior.
Highly recommended
You can do it without any separate media server simply by sharing the folders containing your media on your PC, NAS or Unix box.
easier said than done, sorry for being thick but i am look for a step by step instructions, for either of the options above
Google is your friend :)
guys, I always see this device pop up on ozbargain for $98.
I do quite want it.
But what price should I be holding out for? Obviously it won't drop to $10 anytime soon.
Is $70 realistic? $80?
Its rrp is like $120ish - i think it will hold its value for a while yet - probably wont drop much below $98 anytime soon - you might fluke a $95 or $90 - but i would guess thats it.
that's not what I wanted to hear!
buy it, you wont regret it. one of the best and cheapest media player that capable to play 3TB, NTFS (for file larger than 4gb) and Bluray ISO.
Many comes cheaper but not as good
Ok I'll buy it.
Price match at officeworks to get it cheaper.
In time you could probably do as well or maybe even better with a raspberry pi (http://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/raspbrry-pcba/sbc-raspb…) and something like xbmc (http://www.howtogeek.com/119924/build-a-35-media-center-with…)
But then again, the wdtv works out of the box and supports mpeg2.
RasPi supports Mpeg2 now…but you have to pay…
i currently have a WD mini but i find it doesn't play some downloaded files, which i assume is because of the frame rate??
what i mean is that it plays 7xx X 4xx type files but doesn't play the bigger frame rates of 12xx X 8xx ones.
i get some error about screen resolution. it's connected to a full hd plasma.
Will this WD TV LIVE solve my problem?? Thanks.
Very good review here www.legitreviews.com/article/1738/1/>
I'm pretty sur that model is much better than the one you have.
Mine can play practically any files..
mini are crap version with limited support for file formats
any direct link? so we can price match in VIC?
Sorry no direct link…saw that in store and want to share the info
Sounds like a good deal then, only problem is there's no Clive Anthony near me at all ( I'm in Melb :-(. )
$125 at Officeworks

I assume you can also plug a USB into this?
yes has HDMI out too
should have 2x usb ports like the original live
hi guy, please recomend:
i have old plasma without "smart" feature or media playing or network port or wifi.
i just want to see youtube on my tv (and play some movies occasionally) without have to bring my laptop next to tv and connect via cable.
should i go for wdtv or appletv? or other?
thanks
if you streaming from itunes appletv
if you streaming from network shares wdtv
I would first off recommend the WDTV for price/feature/usability - i have one and interface is great, being able to control with a dinovo mini or any other bluetooth keyboard is good as well.
Plus I'm against fruity products…
so you can browse youtube on tv with wdtv, right? how to type? using iphone? or can we use tv remote control?
also with wdtv i can connect external hdd and then play movies inside it, right? whilst it is imposible with apple tv 3 (not JB)
If YouTube is the main thing you want then Google TV does that best.
Excuse my ignorance, but can this device be used to stream movies that are on the computer to the tv ( wirelessly of course). If so, for those that do it, would u guys recommend this?
