Any reviews on the pork shoulder?

    • +11

It carries some weight on it

    • +4

I'm a big fan. Hoping the chat sui flavour one is on sale as well.
Easy to cook and just falls apart.

      • +5

By easy to cook do you mean easy to heat? Because the meat is precooked right?

        • Yeah. It's quick and simple.

        • lol just like pancakes on the rocks and hurricanes all ribs are precooked as well

    • +2

yep I had it last month for pulled pork sliders and it's really good

    • +4

Haven’t tried this particular one but quite a few of these pre-prepared Woolies meals are nice and so convenient. At half price a steal! I’m going to try and get one. Despite not super healthy it’s so good having something like this on hand when you’re tired or time poor.

    • +4

Good price, though I find these pre-cooked meals (Including the coles ones) are too sweet. I think they are okay if you don't have the time.

      • +5

Too sweet and there's way too much sauce because sugary sauce is cheaper than pork shoulder.

        • +2

The Sauce comes in a seperate bag… you know you can just not add it right?

    • +3

I've had this numerous times, as well as most of these pre-packaged roasts.
We always throw some in the trolley, throw this in an overproof pot with the lid on and frozen chips in the air fryer - easiest meal we can make instead of takeaway.

  • Can I relocate these behind Colgate toothpastes until Wednesday? Lol

    • +7

Unlike Coles Mastercards, the pork shoulder needs to be kept refrigerated :D

      • I don't need to keep my MasterCard refrigerated? I bought a second fridge to keep it in

  • +1

Coles has the La Espaniola extra virgin for $10 as well at the moment, that’s my preference.

    • Thanks for this comment - was considering both (likely mostly based on which store I next get to), but interested to know what you feel the difference is.

      • +4

Just to add, La Espanola is 'Made in Spain', whereas Red Island is 'Made in Australia'.

      • +2

Flavour mainly and I havent used the Red Island one in a while but the inbuilt pourer in the Espaniola is better also. Having said that I am no expert chef so don't go taking my preference as a recommendation, ive just used both and prefer that one.

        • There's been reports of Spanish olive oils having other oils mixed in. I usually have Espanola but Cobram Estate was on sale last week and bought that and noticed a difference. Maybe my imagination? 😀

      • Olive oil from Europe, like coffee, is usually stale from transport. Locally produced oil will have better flavour but depends on what you’re using it for.

So these pre cooked meals were made how ever many days ago and need 30min in the oven to heat up. A pressure cooker can cook fresh pork shoulder in the same amount of time.

    • +5

There’s a microwave option that’s only 8mins. Sure it’s disgusting to cook pre-prepared meat in a plastic bag coated in a sugary sauce, but it’s also mighty convenient. These keep for a long time in the fridge too. We’re often pretty tired at the end of a work day and with a young child to entertain. This with some salads, beans, guac, wraps etc can be ready in less than 10mins. $7.50 is a really good price for these.

    • +2

Its a bit disingenuous to compare the two by leaving out the prep time required on a pork shoulder and unless you are a cat it doesn't really make up a full meal either.

      • +1

Very well said mate. Putting a piece of meat with water in a PC is very different to actually taking the time to 'cook' it.

  • Is pic's pb better/tastier than mayvers pb?

    • +1

      Not in the same league

      • Which is better ?

        • +1

          I enjoy mayvers more.

          • @rover100: Like the taste but not the oil. Had pic's for the first time recently and really liked it

    • +1

You were making a valid, decent point until the shite right at the end.

      • -7

i thought it would be obvious that was a joke

keep on forgetting gen z take everything literally

oh wait… did you also think your jaw would be literally scraping the floor as well?

        sorry about that

        • +4

Unfortunately what derailed your(honestly terrible) joke is that there are likely people out there that genuinely agree with that statement. Given none of us know you from a bar of soap, it makes more sense to assume you are one of those rather than assume you were making a joke.

  • Do i get these in store or online?

  • +1

Most definitely Mayvers is the best to my liking plus it’s organic

  • +1

It's impossible to find these on shelves by midday on the day the promo starts.

How are you guys getting hold of one? I'm starting to think the only way to get one is to wait till the last day of the promo and do a click and collect or delivery for a week later when stock comes back and no one's bought it because it's back to full price …

  • cant see much from the product info page - is the pork shoulder package suitable to be stored in freezer for later?

  • I have always had pork ribs , not this. Is this more fatty and more unhealthy?
