Logitech C270 HD Webcam (Direct Import) $14.99 + Delivery (Free with FIRST) @ Kogan

230

I bought this last week at $17.99. I received a price drop notification this morning. Not sure if it is any good, but I figured for the price the only alternative I can get is only some cheap dubious "1080p" no brand camera with subpar image quality. Free shipping if you have Kogan first or sign up for a free trial.

I think some people might say "just use the laptop webcam" but I don't fancy people looking up my nose all the time when using my laptop webcam, plus I have a dual monitor setup for the camera to sit on. Probably not good enough for streaming, but good enough to make people more comfortable to make out my face in Zoom meetings instead of looking at my initials. :)

+1 for the reasoning behind why a webcam trumps the inbuilt laptop cam :-)

I use one of these each day for much the same reasons. Does the job. Plug & Play for Windows (I suspect it meets whatever the standards are for Linux/Mac too). Never had any complaints about pic or mic. Only thing I would say is that if your monitor has thin top bezel then you may find this encroaches more than you'd like.

    • My monitory is so think that it only just works the other way round. It rests on the top really rather than clicks over nicely

I should probably replace my 15yo Logitech webcam that I got free when there was some error on the Logtech online store and we could order certain items for free sometime in the late 2000s. The fake background in MS Teams is higher res than I am.

But I've only just started using it this year after I finally decided to rummage through various crates where I've been storing tech stuff. My poor colleagues have had to deal with a static mug shot of yours truly throughout most of the WFH revolution.

Have been using this for the last 4 months for teams calls, very satisfied with the video quality and far better quality than my companies FHD HP / Dell laptop webcams.

    • thx , is this wide angel ?

  • Is this better than my microsoft hd cam 3000

    • +1

      no

      • -2

        Why?
They're same tech specs. Is the image quality noticeably different? Both from reputable brands so would expect the build quality to be comparable.

          read the question again.

          • @HolyCr4p: @RtN said
"Is this better than my microsoft hd cam 3000"
            And you said:
            "no"

No idea what that means other than "no"

            • @hotphil: @RtN do you understand my answer?

              • @HolyCr4p: LOL, yeah see it now. Ignore me. I'll go back to my cup-a-soup. Pity you couldn't have expanded on "no" though.

I have this webcam. It’s a night and day difference compared with my inbuilt laptop webcam. A steal at this price.

  • Wish they had a privacy cover

    • If you are paranoid enough to want a privacy cover, you should really just unplug the camera when not in use. Zero chance anyone could still be listening in.

lovely webcam to hook up to octoprint to monitor 3d prints :)

  • It's baffling how laptop webcams are still garbage in 2023. Even a $150 smartphone has a much better fron facing camera.

  • Signed up to First. Cannot get free shipping with this item. Stuck with 12.99 Shipping. I'm guessing it's because I'm rural nsw (nrth nsw, near byron).

Found my postcode in terms and conditions excluded postcodes (at bottom), lol,

Why would they allow you to signup if you have an excluded postcode… smh.

Curious to read the specs of cameras others are using in their laptops — I found the C270 in a pile of my old tech, and see its 720P compared to integrated FHD laptop cameras — i personally would invest another $80 and buy a C922 which can be used with smart TV for video calls on TV, as the $15 seems wasteful?

I have this webcam, but not sure if I love it honestly. Not an expert, but this camera is fixed at a zoomed up distance that's way closer to my face than my laptop webcam does at the same distance. My colleague commented a few times on it lol.
Also, expect the webcam to droop down 1-2cm from the top edge of your screen- especially for those with the slim screen bezels. I personally have to glue a bit of cardboard under the webcam to prop it up and make sure it doesn't cover too much of my screen.

I wonder how this isn't the regular price this camera is basically 20 years old at this point, like I know they have rebranded it from Logitech to logi but damn the profit margin in cameras must be amazing.

  • Damn spent an extra 20 on this about a month ago

  • these are no thrills but they work. Good for WFH if you gotta buy it with your own $$$
