I got a couple from dealextreme. Look just like this. Work fine at around $3.

    • Same here, only I ordered the cooler version with 2 USB plugs in it.

      Dealextreme FTW!

With all the "Belkin" USB Chargers going around, are these even genuine?

    • are these even genuine

it says it's 'original', nothing about 'genuine'

LOL… this deal is the best!

belkin > DX copy anyday. Might not be the cheapest compared to DX, but im willing to pay for quality

    • Theres a difference between "Quality" and perceived value.

Both are made in china, most likely from the same factory.

      • iPhones are made in China too….

The genuine Belkin products are actually higher quality.

You get an actual stable voltage and it won't fall apart.

Some DX products are good quality, the others only suit low/careful use.

      • i used to sell those cheap china copies, infact i gave one to my friend (force technology sourced). it fried his iphone/usb cable when it was charging.

imagine the embarrassment when i found out what happened, and the disgust that force technology didnt even give two hoots.

  • You know what? I don't care if it's genuine. I just want it to work.. why pay for a genuine if a supposed "fake" $2 one works in the same way? It's not like post-sales support is that important for something like this.

There are a few unfortunate cases where genuine (or better than $1 DX) is worth it. My phone barely charges off the USB car charger I have, it basically won't lose too much charge when connected, but it will never get a full charge, even after hours of being connected.

On my PC, only the genuine Samsung cable properly syncs with my phone. When I mean properly, I mean recognising it reliably every single time and having enough confidence to flash ROMs with it. I perhaps it was just my motherboard until a mate who has a GS II had the exact same issue on a completely different machine - system wouldn't recognise the phone properly unless it was a Samsung cable.

The cheap $1 DX/Meritline cables have their purpose - they will charge with an AC adapter fine and they will also maintain a trickle charge from a PC, freeing my 'genuine' cables for sirius binness.

    • Exactly like the 12v to usb that came with my phone. It was a cygnet unit with an optus sticker on it… couldn't charge anything really. Threw it out for a $3 ebay usb port. Been using it for years now

    • I have the same experience with a fake one of these that I got from e-bay for $2. It does not charge my phone and my GPS shuts down minutes after being plugged in due to not getting enough juice from the USB port.

I am now considering shelling out the $10 - $15 for a more reputable brand to see if it works better.

Not sure if I would trust parts like this from e-bay though. May wait for a decent Amazon deal or such.

  • "was 12.99 delivered, today 15% off for ozbargainers. "

I don't understand ^^this part. The "sale" price is what's quoted on the eBay page.. it's got nothing to do with OzBargainers or exclusive for OzBargainers.

Lol Rep, are you trying to make us feel special or something? :P

The Rep changed the text in this post I believe after my first comment.

      • Lol keep 'em on their toes, Jv. ;D

To all those people who're arguing about el-cheapo car chargers from ebay: yes, they do work, but if they go faulty they may kill your phone by not providing proper current/voltage regulation. Would you be happy if your $2 charger killed your $900 phone?

I have >>genuine<< Motorola 1A and a Samsung 1A car chargers and they actually do provide 1A, much like wall chargers. None of the el-cheapo chargers I've bought on ebay can provide advertised 1A, which btw, is the maximum rated current for a micro USB connector.

I've had "genuine" chargers kill phones as well. (and laptops for that matter) While we're on the topic, undercurrent and/or undervoltage will not blow up anything, unless things have changed since I did my electrical engineering. Surges, spikes and erratic waveforms can, but that's another story.

This is all kind of moot anyway, Belkin is not a quality brand, though they're doing a good job of spreading that rumour. It is an expensive brand, but price is not always an indicator of quality.

There were twin USB chargers identical to these at Harvey Norman for $4 and they produce a reliable output.

      • DX products are well known for outputting more volts then they should, normally it only reduces the life of the batteries though.

Also Belkin is a lot better then generic brands, it doesn't make it as good as a proper brand we see in the shops, but still way better then DX generic junk.

I think I know a lot more then most people here simply because I used to sell products in Australia from similar places to DX and its cheap for a reason, you just hope the customer doesn't use it in a way that reveals why its cheap…

  • get the better charger from DX. there are ones which have dual USB port - 1A and 2.1A
