Virgin Australia Sydney to Bali via Gold Coast?

hallo

We have upcoming holiday to Bali with Virgin Australia and the flight schedule transit in Gold Coast.

My question
Do I need check in at Sydney domestic airport? Where is the immigration check in at Sydney or gold coast?

Anyone have similar experience? when i call virgin support seems they are based in manila not really sure what is the process

Check in at Sydney Domestic -> Custom/ Immigration at GC.

(SYD to GC will be a domestic flight)

Your luggage will be checked in all the way to Bali in Sydney.

    • is it easy to transfer at GC? i know GC airport is a small airport, but not aware where is their international terminal

      • It’s pretty easy to find a map of the airport.

      • Yes OOL is a very small airport and easy to get to all the gates. The new international terminal adjoins the domestic terminal, only a few minutes walk

      • if there is an hour or 2 between flights, you could walk 15min across the road to the beach. And it is a big airport - it stretches across 2 states.

  • Good luck with the flight. Had an extremely unpleasant experience with Virgin last week. Sydney to Bali direct. Meant to arrive 10.30pm local time, ended up being around 3am. Last minute reschedule (no prior notification, almost had a heart attack when I stumbled on the app on the way to the airport, luckily still made it)+ delay + refueling in Darwin.

Needless to say the plane only had 2 toilets for the whole Economy class.

    • do you need to purchase meal on board or virgin like jet star you need purchase meal / drink on board? thanks

Yea since covid if you want to eat on board, you need to pay or bring in yourself.

        • do they ask vaccine certificate as well on Australia and Bali immigration?

  • I thought there is quiet a lot of flight direct from Sydney to Bali for 6 hours flight time and get there still morning.

    • my partner book the flight using his points and that was the best points with his available points, direct flight cost double the points.

      • Ok safe flight. Note you can fill Bali immigration online form prior arrival. It's free. Note there is third party site that looks official but will ask for money. Don't use them.

        • Please provide link to free immigration form / visa.

            • @bargainy: But you still need to apply (and pay) for a visa first right?

              https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/destinations/asia/indonesia

              • @fantombloo: Yep visa <> customs.

              • @fantombloo: You can get a visa on arrival for 500k IDR (about $50) at the airport, or apply online before you go from official govt website:
                https://molina.imigrasi.go.id/
                More info here:

I think best to get it on arrival in case your travel planes change, I doubt they'll refund your visa fee if you can't go

                • @x x: Yeah, know this. Just that foxmulder made it all sorta sound free which was not my experience and I started feeling ripped off.

                • @x x: I think it’s easier to get to it before you go because it is valid for 90 days from when you purchase it and active for 30 days from when you arrive. I think the main focus when arriving in Bali is to get the hell out of the airport as fast as you can.

                  • @bargainy: It doesn't make any difference timewise cos you buy the VOA at the same place (customs) that you have to show it

                    • @x x: It's a whole extra queue. You show it at the second queue after you buy it.

                • @x x: Insurance would cover the $50 - you do use insurance don't you ?

                  • @MITM: Are you saying travel insurance will pay back the $50 visa fee if you can't travel? I don't use travel insurance but wouldn't the excess be more than $50? Which travel insurance company can you recommend, thanks.

                    • +1

@x x: Southern Cross Travel allows you to reduce the excess to $0. This is my go to and wouldn't leave home without it. If my credit card covers me too - that would be as a back up.
I've claimed non-refundable accommodation from SCT when our trip was cancelled earlier this year due to weather.

I mainly use travel insurance in case something goes horribly wrong medically rather than rely on a go-fund-me page. Always list my pre-existing condition which bumps the cost up $10
Also, if for some reason I was to end up in jail overseas - my one call would be to Travel Insurance 24hr hot line for help.

But remember, alcohol not only impairs you judgement - it can also void a claim to the extent that if a family member has an alcohol related road accident back home and you cut your travel short to get back - their intoxication may void your claim. True.

  • friend of us, told us that Australia mobile phone doesn't work with Indonesia sim card, is it true?

    • If more than USD500, then need to pay when registering IMEI. But you can buy tourists SIM, plenty options online and on Klook.

  • sorry guys, is that mean i cannot claim gst for this trip?

Your question quota has been exhausted. Have a nice trip!

    • You can (as long as you don't bring the item back into Australia).

      • If you take it out of the box - it becomes used/2nd hand and no GST is payable returning to AUS. Unfortunately doesn't work with open bottles of grog.
