Looks like a good price for a Real Grade kit. Cheaper than local retailers I checked.

Also Bandai Hobby Kit Rg 1/144 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn $46.92 might need to change seller to Amazon Japan

A pretty good one if you ask me, old RG kits usually hold up, apart from the gimmicky ones (Zeta etc).

    • +2

Yes, there are a whole lotta great kits that span the years. In terms of the 00 Raiser, if you're looking for one in the 1/144 scale with the most detail, this is it.

    • +2

Real Grade 1/144 is usually more expensive, as their inner frames can be more complex than a standard Master Grade.

High Grade 1/144 is much cheaper and no inner frame.

As someone who took a gamble on whether I'd enjoy making these after a post a few weeks back…

    …keep 'em coming.

  • +1

One of the earlier models that still uses the advanced MS joints if that means anything.
Anyways, 3000 yen RRP before tax, so ~$40 shipped is a solid deal

    • +1

Honestly the unicorn 02 should be on the little picture, its a far better kit for only few dollars difference.

      • +1

I agree, the Unicorn 02 Banshee Norn is quite a better kit for just $7 more, from what I know it has a better advanced MS joint that is quite stiff. OO raiser from what I have heard is quite back heavy making it harder to stand normally without an action base. The banshee is also a 4000 yen RRP product making it a better deal overall :)

        • yeah just beware of the arms, they tend to get too stiff. Mine broke off, try taking the joint and get it work in a bit, almost like massaging it.

The Age of Eneloops is over. The time of the Japanese hobby kits has come.

Has anyone else encountered issues with delivery? I've made two Gundam purchases from Amazon JP within the last 30 days, both of them were marked as undeliverable following an 'attempted' delivery.

    • Unfortunately we had 1 out of 3 Gundams from Amazon JP marked as undeliverable & Amazon Au refunded this week.

    • I received all my order from Amazon JP including Gunpla, they all sent by Auspost, so I believe you can use parcel collect service from Auspost.

    • I've made a handful of orders since Gunpla has taken over OzBargain, and the only issue I've had is that it took them 1-2 weeks to actually dispatch the items, even though those items were listed as in stock. Once dispatched though, they've all arrived in around 5 days, and have been well packaged.

    • +5

They often don't bother trying to deliver and just leave it at your local post office to collect with no card, and the Amazon tracking doesn't update.
If you call ECMS Express at (02) 8317 6262 and give them your tracking number (from Amazon), they can email you the AusPost tracking number (which is different) and you can see which post office to collect it from.

      • +2

I use this website to track packages from Amazon Japan. It will show the link to Auspost once it is scanned in Australia. Then I just add the Auspost tracking number to the Auspost app.

        https://parcelsapp.com

      • This exact thing happened to me. They don't card drop, it just goes to aus post sight unseen.

Also took them 15 days to actually dispatch, and now I'm enjoying RG Nu for $51.

    • I ordered both the Liger Zero and the Beserk Fury model kits when Amazon Japan had them on sale and got both of them without any issues

    • Probably won't be the case for you, but changing my address to include my full name (instead of just using my last name previously for Amazon AU) allows me to receive Amazon JP orders just fine now.

For the 5 or so orders I had first made with Amazon JP before fixing my address, everything had shown up as "undeliverable". Also, the time it takes for you to receive your refund for those orders is quite a long time (was easily a month for me)

  • Unrelated Q, any way to see if Amazon Japan via AU stocks any food/snacks? Love any way to buy jp food that's not 3x markup via Asian groceries.

    • You could order them via Apps like MiauMall or HongMall.

    • You'll need to think of a keyword for what you're looking for, and use the Amazon Japan storefront's search function: https://www.amazon.com.au/s?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=A39IBJ37TR…

Otherwise there seems to be 400+ pages of items to crawl through lol

      • yeah I thought 'dried squid' so put squid. Got 50 books. Everything just starts listing by books.
Was in jp, amazing how many ways they can do dried squid snacks, 50+ types in supermarket.

for ppl new to gunpla, just be carefull some of the kits like this one and the recently posted RG shinanju, those are having an inner frame structure called "advance mss joint" which is infamous for its weak strength, they tend to break easily so becarefull when you assemble the inner frame.

i am not saying dont buy this since this price is very decent. (RG in the early 2010s cost about $25 on sale).just becarefull and definately dont use water marker on the joint.

if you into exia, i would recommend RG 00QuntamT which is a newer model that ger rid of that inner frame sets

    • What about unicorn banshee norn Rg ? Would you recommend?

      • +1

Have built this one and it is super solid. Have built unicorn 01 and 02, both are amazing kits if you know what to watch out for. Essentially, all unicorns are the same kits with different finish but slightly different skin if you would. I’d recommend them 👍🏼

Also, if you would like more information, there is a Gundam Club Australian page in Facebook!

https://acg.78dm.net/ct/120588.html Translate this site to english and see the instruction tab, it's having advanced ms joint as well. So you just need to be carefully with inner frame a.k.a when you assembling the skeleton.

It is less about recommending and more about personnel preference. IMO, you can only display one mode of the unicorn so transform body is less of my preference. But if the price is decent and you like the design , definately go for it.

My most recent favourite one is actually a RG EVA, lots of fun to build and it poses really well. Link below.

My all time favourite will be 00Q[T] FULL SABER LINK BELOW

To sum up, Gundam Model is a super deep rabbit hole, and RG is only the top of the iceberg, my main interest is in collecting MetalBuild.

    • 00Q! My favourite rg I build years ago, ashame I kind of lost it when I stop the hobby. I only find the shield part of it. Hope one day I can pick one up on sale.

      • +1

Have a look at RG 00Q Full Saber, you’ll love it!

        • +1

Can confirm it's a decent RG, I had heaps of fun building it and gor it from PB without paying scalper mark up

  • +3

If anyone would like to build RG kits, look for RG number 25 and above as they have moved on from Advanced MS Joints (altho some are not entirely). These RGs have less problems than their predecessors. But some of those below number 25 are worth mentioning as they tend to be sturdier even with Advanced MS Joints, like RG MkIIs and RG 00Q.

  • Are these kits suitable for kids to make? Easy instructions etc? (assume they're in Japanese?)

    • I believe they have ratings which most of them are 8+ and yes there are instructions that are mostly in Japanese and only some new kits have English instructions

    • +3

you need to use knippers to get clean cuts to remove the parts from the railings, if you DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE with your child using very sharp tools with some precision i would avoid. Instructions are easy enough to follow, even in Japanese, cos its like IKEA instructions, all detailed pictures. Bandai recommends some kits for 15 years old or older for their model kits, some are 8+. The kits aren't really the issue, its the tools to refine the gunpla to make them look good, and to get clean cuts that are potentially dangerous. You can brute force snap out the pieces from the railings but the nubs can be sharp and still lead to injury (not recommended anyway as you'll likely damage the pieces also). Another option would be to use nail clippers instead which are way safer for a child but they are no where near as precise for getting clean cuts vs using knippers, but may be the perfect medium for you to leave your child unsupervised and with a semi decent tool to work with for building thats better than nothing at all. Personally, I would strictly supervise my child to see how they go just to make sure they can handle themselves. Once your child knows how to handle themselves with sharp tools and are aware of the dangers of misuse through proper guidance (plus you are now very comfortable with them handling the tools), an 8+ year old kid could build these units with relative ease over time. The reason why its 15+ for some kids is for the exact reasons outlined above, plus the choking hazard.

Translate this site to english and click instructions manual tab, you can have a look of the full instructions, I think teens and some kids can be self sufficient finishing a kit.

But like other comment mentioned, albeit Gunpla does not require adhesives, you still need tools such as nipper and craft knife to finish building it. I personally would not let kids build it by themselves but teens should be fine.

I grow up building them since 10. Had paper cut like injury on my fingers but I got used to it. It definitely helps developing my ability to read and follow instructions which apparently becoming a skill that not everyone has. I would say it's a good way to practice pacience and I am kinda in a zen state while building them.

Maybe get one and build the first with your kiddo? Not bad investment of a parent kid bonding session for 40 bucks.

Also, don't forget grab a tool like this which is definitely enough for beginner. https://amzn.asia/d/9dl5AKw
