Hi guys, just wondering who knows about this.
WARNING…link heavy!
Just been doing a bit of surfing and came across this info…
The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme (https://www.veet.vic.gov.au/Public/Public.aspx?id=Home) creates clean energy certificates (VEECs).
Each of them have a market value, currently $18 according to this site:
http://www.greenenergytrading.com.au/certificates/todays-pri…
So how does it work?
If I was to buy a Samsung UA46ES5500 (https://www.bigbrownbox.com.au/samsung-ua46es5500-series-5-4…)
I can calculate how many VEECs I create by going here
https://www.veet.vic.gov.au/Public/Calculator/VEECCalculator…
So I plug in that model number and find it's worth 4 VEECs - with a nominal value of $72
The trouble here is that you need to be accredited to 'trade' VEECs on the open market, so you need to use an accredited party in order to get your cash.
Example of one is Ecovantage: http://www.ecovantage.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&vi…
They quoted me $15 per VEEC, or $60 in the case of this TV
http://www.ecovantage.com.au/images/stories/documents/forms_…
So what are people's thoughts? Cash for filling in a form? Has anyone had success doing this?
Okay, have done some research… The main sites I could find, based on this listing for Fridges/Freezers (there will be others for TVs I'm sure):
http://www.switchon.vic.gov.au/how-can-i-take-charge-of-my-p…
Were as follows:
http://www.energymakeovers.com.au/ (currently trading at $12 per VEEC… have to create an account, fill in a form online, figure out relevant fields, print it, scan it, upload it)
http://www.tradeingreen.com.au/forms-90.html (currently trading at $12 per VEEC)
http://www.tradinggreen.com.au/Rebates.html (currently trading at $10 per VEEC)
http://www.ecovantage.com.au/ (site is a bit buggy, have to call for their current price which is $8)
http://easyrebates.com.au/ (currently trading at $5 per VEEC but looks like they might adjust their price up the more VEECs you have e.g. 7 credits were about $7 each)
EasyRebates make it easy for you - fill in an online form and away you go - you know straight away how much you'll be getting (which is about half as much as other places - convenience comes at a cost I guess).
My recommendation:
1) Go here to check how many VEECs your purchase generated: https://www.veet.vic.gov.au/Public/Calculator/VEECCalculator…
2) I went with tradeingreen (not to be confused with tradinggreen) because they had the equal best price and a simple form without signup required.
3) Fill form and save it and email it along with your receipt (full instructions here: http://www.tradeingreen.com.au/demo/index.php?option=com_con…)
4) This companies settlement terms are 20 Business days.
FYI, the whole scheme finishes at the end of 2015 http://www.energyandresources.vic.gov.au/energy/about/legisl…
