After a Samsung Galaxy S2 outright. Any deals, coupons, promo's etc.

G'day,

I'm after an S2 outright, unlocked, preferably the international version - i9100 over the Telstra/VF version which is i9100T (Whirlpool list the differences).

Anyone out there know of any bargains ? , codes, promos etc.

I've seen Kogan has them for $428 delivered, plus also found a coupon code for mobicity which gave $10 off, resulting in $439.

Thinking of waiting a few weeks for the Iphone 5 to hit the market, with a view that the S2's price may drop again.

Any idea's ?

Thanks
Lobe

  • The incremental cost of a brand new S3 vs a brand new S2 makes buying an S2 unviable

    • Thanks.

I'm fairly tech savvy but phones are not really my thing, especially the large screen ones etc. I've been living with my trust old Sony K750i for years now, only the time has come where i no longer have all day internet access due to my work circumstances changing. The lack of i/net access has cost me a few lost $ on the ASX, hence a smart phone such as the S2 (not a fan of apple/itunes set up etc) will suffice.

I know the S3 is only slightly larger but this is a factor for me.

That being said, the $478 deal on here the other day was excellent for the S3 but i'm really after an S2.

      Thanks

  • someone selling one in the forsale section.. =)
    i believe hes from perth

  • In your case I would really recommend you to consider tablet (on you choice) for internet and real phone for calls instead of "smart"phone. "Smart"phones are SOO DULL in battery life((((
I have S2 and with moderate internet usage it hardly survive a day. I bought 3500mAh battery and now I confident enough that I'll be available all day long may be even two, but extended battery makes S2 so ugly(((

If you still after S2 you can try to call Vodafone and discuss a bargain over their 29/month plan with free S2 (0/month). (That's how I got it)

    • He doesnt want the S3 as it't too big, I doubt he would want to bring a tablet around.

  • Mad props for lasting so long on the K750; my one's buttons started to crap out for no reason about 4 years ago! Funnily enough the next phone I bought was a Galaxy S2 (I borrowed a hand-me-down Nokia and then iphone in the gap).

Make sure Vodafone service your area well with data before committing to a smartphone contract with that provider. Reception and data throughput are crucial for a lot of a smartphones functions. Optus are pretty good these days, Telstra is still the king. Keep an eye out for good resellers: TPG for example are a cheap carrier, and use Optus hardware. You didn't ask about this however, so it's probably neither here nor there.

I have an extended battery in my S2, and it lasts about 2 days between charges, with moderate use, charge everyday with heavy use. There are power points everywhere though, they charge over USB, and the first 80% always charges pretty quickly. Battery time isn't as big an issue as some might make it out to be, but you're own circumstances mean your mileage may vary.

Going from a smaller screen may make the larger screens somewhat intimidating (I was: iphone -> S2), but you rapidly get used to them and wonder how you went without the extra space. I would highly rate the larger screen of the S3; there is a lot more screen real estate vs overall phone size, and a lot of the smartphone functions are much more pleasant on the larger screen. The larger phone size is something you really adapt to quite quickly.

    • Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

Tunblor - Sony K750i kicking on strong from about 06. Buttons n joy control did the same but nothing a quick disasseble and clean with compressed air couldnt fix. Only killed it a few months ago by putting it in the washing machine along with my mountain bike shorts after a ride. I had a spare one which was brand new :)

Thanks for the comments re the batt life. Something i'll look into and consider though.
My engineering mgr was saying the same yesterday. I know this can be improved by reflash/root/kernnels etc.

VF service is good in my area for data, although i'm not gonna get tied into a plan, so i'll just stay on VF prepaid (although did look at Liveconnected after seeing info on Ozbargain ).
Depending on my work situ i may require Tel$tra coverage in the future.
