What is Qatar currently?
They (and Hawaiian) aren't a current option using Amex points. They will be available from October 4 at a rate of 2:1.
Good news then
Very sad ðŸ˜
First Amplify rewards… now Amex too. Geez this is really sad for peeps who love using KrisFlyer.
Can we not get a card that earns KrisFlyer points!!
It used to exist… there was a Westpac CC that had Krisflyer direct earn but I think it stopped in 2016. Those who were on it got grandfathered though! Lucky them.
For SIA, it'll now be better to convert amex to velocity during bonus periods first, then convert velocity to SIA
With bonus: 2.7 AMEX -> 1.35 Velocity + 0.20 (15% bonus) -> 1 SIA
Normal Amex: 3 AMEX - > 1 SIA
Without bonus: 3.1 AMEX -> 1.55 Velocity -> 1 SIA
Perhaps a velocity devaluation (VFF to KF) might be coming soon too but till then yes this is the way to go
Aren't the bonus periods in May and November ?
By then, the exchange rate will increase about 33%,
but the bonus rate is usually 15% on top.
Guess time to get rid of my Plat Edge once all points transferred unless they offer handsome retention bonus points.
I guess I should just transfer all my points before October?
Depends. Do you only fly SIA and Emirates? Do you have plans to use all the points within 3 years on SIA?
Honestly I rarely fly SIA.
I'm on Ozbargain. My airlines of choice are Jetstar and Air Asia!
Lol then might as well keep points on amex
The problem with SQ, is the points expire every 3 years, but they expire in tranches.
I had several 'tranches' of KF points all expiring over a staggered period of time,
and this is annoying, but this is SQ genius to prevent point accumulations.
So, if a bulk transfer is done now, then yes, that bulk pool of points will have 3 years validity.
Also, SQ taxes also need to be taken into consideration when deciding.
American Express is just getting worse and worse. Terrible service. Terrible travel agent. Terrible cashback
indeed! Going to can my Platinum once i transfer them over in Oct
Can’t agree more. They used to offer superior service and value.
AMEX are adding new Airline Rewards partners, from:
2023 AUGUST
• 2 AMEX Points = 1 Qatar Airways Avios
2023 OCTOBER
• 2 AMEX Points = 1 Hawaiian Airlines Miles
My view is that credit card companies should honor existing transfer rates for points earned prior to the devaluation. I think that’s only fair for consumers but I’m sure they have terms and conditions stating that they can change this anytime.
You can now convert your Amex points to Qatar's Avios and if you do it before August 18 you'll receive 20% bonus Avios points.
Not happy, Jan!
