Do you have the CPU model numbers (e.g. i5-1135G7 or i5-11400H)?

There can be a fair bit of variance between processesors in the same family and generation.

    • Not sure if I’m correct but seems the i3 12 gen is better? Weird that a laptop over year plus ago has this and never model this year has i5 but only 11gen that’s going backwards

      • Looks like the i3 is definitely a stronger CPU

I'm struggling to find a meaningful comparison between the integrated graphics but I think they should be pretty similar from that perspective.

      • Are you cross shopping different brands?

More info on the laptop brand/model would be helpful.

        • They are both hp laptops I got one for daughter Xmas last year purchased oct 22 this is the i3 12gen wife was asking for one for Xmas and last year model no longer available this year it’s i5 11gen I’m sure everything else similar specs.

With eBay discount code I got last years one for $49,less which laptop was on a deal, where as currentl one is in a deal but no further discount from retailer.

It’s seems last year model is better than this years on the processor.

          • @bwatt72: HP current line also includes 12th and 13th gen i5.
i5 11gen is a base model low spec Envy.

  • i3-1215U
    i5-1135G7

    • You can compare them here: https://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/products/compare.…

The i3 is a newer and better CPU with additional cores, higher frequency and memory cache. Also supports DDR5 if that’s your thing.

The i5 appears to have slightly better onboard graphics, but that’s moot if the device has a GPU too.

      • I thought the higher the better i5 being higher so seems an older laptop purchased last year has better than one this year

      • Yeah it doesn't take long for a new i3 to be better than an older i7.

      • What do you mean by that?

  • This is not an answer for the OP. But its sort of related.

Does anyone know of software that will give you a score that would allow comparing different PCs? Of course there are multiple dimensions to how fast it is. Processor. Graphics. Storage.

The Windows Experience Index in Windows used to do it. I have a whole database of results from it, and sometimes thefaster/slower PCs aren't the ones you expect. But they developed it to give a score less than 10. So as PCs got faster they all ended up scoring 9.9 for everything. And Microsoft dropped it. Winaero continued with something similar, but if you try to run the old version it forces you to download the new version, and trying to get it is near impossible fight through the attempts to sell you something. I found another one, UserBenchmark, it it compares your PC to other similarly configured ones, which is different altogether.

Where its relevant to the OP's question, is that with the plethora of processor models and variations of those models, it would nice to be able to walk into a computer store with a benchmarking program on a USB stick, run it from there, and see how various models compare.
