Not sure I can recommend it, only barely scrapped in 1000hrs…
/s
(1094hrs and love it, great for a few hours here and there and good mods)
Excellent game but I'm not sure if people got the sarcasm
Some added info:
Highly recommend game over 400,000+ reviews on Steam
Valheim was on early release 2 Feb 2021My maths is bad but,
If you've clocked 1100hrs on it… Slept 5hrs per day, worked 8hrs for 5 days a week, eating for about an hour a day, travel etc you'd have less than 3000hrs free time to play this game per year.I feel a little jealous. Epic effort!
Yeah, on second thoughts it mightn't have come out as well as it could have.
Time wise nothing too crazy, looking at steam I bought it in Feb2021. 28months. 1100/28= ~40hr/month. Not sure if that is something to be proud of.
It's just a clean fun thing to build in, if you have a server with others helps too and mods help keep it fresh, QOL changes etcedit: Definitely worth the money for cheap entertainment.
Note that Steam counts hours by how long the game client is open, which isn't necessarily human playtime.
Leaving the game open on the menu screen overnight would add 8 hours to "time played" for example.
Love the game, great fun! Waiting for new content is a bit of a slog though
If you have the Humble Bundle Monthly discount of 20% it is even cheaper at Humble Bundle Store: AU$13.90
Starting up with my mates this weekend. Good ol LAN Party at a mates place. :P. Already setup the dedicated server on AWS XD. Bought this morning at this price! Perfect timing (we were gonna buy it tomorrow if no sale anyway!)
which server/plan + os did you pick for aws
We already had a Windows box we use for zomboid and minecraft (modded) then we just change the start up script for which game. Mate set it up because he likes to click! (doesn't like to use CLI) :P. Previously we used Linux Ubuntu for zomboid/terraria servers.
Either way, because of our varied use we use a t3.large windows server 2019. For valheim we're just using the steam valheim dedicated server tool because it's easy to manage/update.
But if it's dedicated and your group is 4 or less and maybe on Linux with less overhead you can probably get away with a T3.medium (it's the same cpu cores, just less RAM.) can also look at t3a for ever so slightly cheaper VMs (they use amd instead of Intel).
Alternatively if you just want a flat monthly price and ease of use - https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/hands-on/valheim-on-a… is pretty easy guide. Lightsail charges the same whether the instance is stopped or not, however.
My friends and I are really cheap so I was trying to figure out if t4g would work, but learning ARM is an overhead for me.
Using windows would make it a lot easier, but cost more lol@Blitzfx: Yeah I don't know a lot re the ARM vms but pricing for what you'd need re RAM isn't that much cheaper than t3a.
Alternatively, buy one of those cheap optiplex/Lenovo units for like 100 bucks (like 6th/7th gen mini units), setup your server(s) there for this and any other game you want to play.. Just requires a bit more networking know how, as well as making sure it's secure etc. (will require a domain yada Yada). Could be a fun project lol.
Obligatory "it's also on Game Pass" if interested.
Thanks it looks interesting will have a go 👍
Great game!
Sounds like a fun game. Would you all recommend for solo play? Or would I have to gather mates to really enjoy it?
I'm sure you can have fun solo if you like craft survival games and can sink some time into it. But generally speaking I really enjoy these types of games with friends.
Thanks for the tip!
If you enjoy picking up rocks and running for miles looking for pigs to bludgeon with a stick then this game is for you.
(It's actually great).
I play this game more of a building simulator. It's so calming.
Definitely 1000000000% worth even upwards of $50. The recent updates theyve implemented whilst timely inbetween are fantastic. You can immerse yourself into this game very easily. Some very decent mods for it also. Need to be a bit of a pve/farmer type player to really enjoy it.
Great game to immerse yourself into
